That looks really slick! Thanks for sharing!
Every video I see on the Kodiak system is with bowl gouges and it seems to work great. But what about spindle and roughing gouges that don’t have swept back wings? Will the Kodiak swivel arm sharpen those properly?
It comes with a flat platform for doing the tools that don't swivel.
One of the most important aspects of wood turning.
Hi Carl, That looks like a really simple set up. I have already invested in a Tormek system with all the jigs so can't justify the expense of another system. If I was starting out, and they ship to the UK, I would probably consider it. Thanks for sharing you experience. Cheers, Huw
Tormek is a great system too, thanks buddy!
I just bought it and started using it yesterday. Still figuring out the skew sharpening, but reshaped an old harbor freight spindle gouge into a finger nail grind based on one of the setting just to test it out. No WAY I could have done that on my own. I’ve struggles with sharpening and I’m really excited to add this to the set up. Carl, perhaps you could walk us through your experience with each of the various grinds including scrapers, spindle gouges, skews, etc.?
what do i need to get if i already have the wolverine?
Doug Howland I was just wondering the same thing.
Me too
I'm not sure I'll check with Ken.
Carl Jacobson awesome, thanks! This system looks like way less of a headache than setting up the Wolverine.
Looks like a very effective system Carl.
Cheers
Mike
I'm totally buying this thing! Thanks for the walk through =D
Thanks buddy, it's a great sharpening jig.
Hi Carl being a pensioner funds are limited and the cost of purchasing and shipping this to the UK is impossible, having said that the system look's easy to use and very accurate.Thank you for showing it
Thanks, ya shipping to thew UK would be pretty expensive.
Interesting. You mention slow speed grinder. What do you consider to be "slow speed?"
1750 rpm
I thought you were an Easy Wood Tools guy! No need for grinders anymore right? Just change out the carbide inserts!
I use both all the time!
Thanks for sharing...!
Nice system. Too rich for me.
Thank you for this, as an avid watcher of wood turners/makers I have always been curious about how all of you keep your tools sharpened. :-)
Thank you!
Interesting. :)
Sharpening - the bane of our hobby, thanks for the demo on eliminating that frustrating part of turning.
Thanks buddy!
That sharpening system is nice I already have a wolverine at thing is way too expensive for my blood. I had to save for a long time to get my wolverine set up. I had to buy it peice by peice.
The Wolverine is a nice jig John, I've had mine for years.
That's why I got the wolverine setup was because of you and your presentation of it.
Thanks Carl
Thank you Carl, as always you make it look so easy. Great job.
Thank you Richard!
Thanks for the info Carl! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks buddy!
Sweet system . Thanks Carl take care .
Thanks buddy!
What CBN grits wheel were you using,, thanks for sharing
I have the same question. Thanks!
I have a 80 and 600. I demonstrated the bowl gouge on the 80 grit wheel.
Nice information
Thanks
Thank you for sharing great info 👍🏼
Thank you Tomas!
Great tips
Thank you!
THanks for the "How-To"
Thanks Lewis!
Thats awesome Carl!! I'm really still watching it, I just wanted to be first to comment!! That is a sweet jig, thanks Man!!
Thank you buddy!
Wow, way too expensive even to just buy the pieces to use on the Wolverine system. I'll just stick with the Wolverine system I have.
Great system, though you seemed wired pretty tight on this video. Time deadline ?
I feel you rushed through the presentation and did not give an accurate example of how the system adjusts. If you use it on a daily basis i would think that you would be able to demonstrate it much clearer. Meaning you seemed to struggle a lot with how the settings work. Makes me think it’s not as easy as you SAY it is, in my opinion you definitely did NOT make it look as simple as you SAID it was . Just my take away from it .
This has NOTHING to do with you personally, I think your an amazing turner.
Very nice jig.
I've only had it for three weeks I'm sure I'll be smooth soon.
