I got the same Bible in from Bibles Direct a couple days ago, but mine is in petrol blue. I love this Bible. Finally Allan has made a NCR bound by Royal Youngbloed. I find too many inconsistencies in Charfleet bindings. Yes, I like the Highland Goatskin, but this Meriva Calfskin is quite luxurious; buttery smooth as you said! Thanks for your review, and enjoy the Bible!
Thank you for sharing 😊. BTW, where do you send the bible to have a ribbon change? I thought about doing that for my Schuyler. Can I ask; do you find the Allan easier to carry than the Schuyler? Thank again 😊
I feel for you guys, unfortunately gone are the days of Chant and an excellent Allan binding. I purchased my first ESV 1 back in 2007, and it was a beauty, solid spine work, just solid. It seems these newer iterations have numerous issues including the spine bending in with the text block when you open the Bible , not a good Oxford hollow in there. It’s truly a bummer to see. Allan has become just a name sadly. I purchased the NC2 in the navy, and sadly the spine suffered from the aforementioned situation, instead of being reinforced well and rounded when you open it (see any Schuyler as a great good example of how a spine should behave) it bent in when the book was opened, and this was sadly done by Jongbloed of all binders! I wanted to love the NC2, but I will admire Allan from afar, however, Chris, your reviews are excellent! Keep them coming! When I started in this racket all there was to read was Bible Design Blog, which was awesome in 2007 to have, but now there are guys like you putting out great content all the time….Thank you!!
I have this edition in Petrol blue and it is flawless, as is my recently purchased NASB reader in Purple goatskin. Both printed and bound by Jongbloed My Allan’s printed in China and bound by Ludlow or Chant or Charfleet are a mixed bag as far as quality goes. They can be very good or very flawed in my experience. I also have the Schuyler Quentel and PSQ and while the quality is superb, I’m not a fan of the thinner 28 GSM paper. Allan really knocked it out of the ballpark with this edition and I hope they focus on Jongbloed printing and binding going forward.
I got the same black/gold one as well. Question. Is the first ribbon folded over on your copy? Or are they all in a row like Charfleet? Not sure if they did it on purpose or not? I have a Thomas Nelson NKJV that has the ribbons done like this, but it is a thinline. The NCR2 has more than enough room to fit 3 ribbons in a row without a fold over. My one complaint on this Bible. So will have to change it because it bugs me LOL.
ESV is so much more readable than king James although I love King James. I also really like Highland goat skin but my favorite Bible happens to be a ironed calfskin
One of the nicest bibles I've seen 😍

I just ordered mine before watching, excited to break it in. Love the notebook paper in the back

I am curious how this Meriva Calfskin Allan Bible has held up since this review was uploaded?
Great review and comparison.

Line matched?
Hey Chris, what is the outer margin on this edition?

Please, please, open the bible
Why do you think they bought it? 😅
