Basically, Hannibal won the battles that would have won the Punic wars for Carthage, BUT the Carthaginian politicians refused to capitalize on his victories and allowed Rome to continue on to win the war in the end, resulting in the complete destruction of Carthage.
Hannibal didn’t lose the war, the Carthaginian politicians lost the war. That had to be one Hell of a bitter pill for Hannibal to swallow. Because he offered them the Roman Empire on a plate, and they refused it, to their own destruction.

Hard to say. The Romans were warriors at heart, they would rather fight Hannibal to the last Roman than to surrender. In war, it 's the one who are more willing to fight that would win, the Carthaginians couldn't afford that.

Thanks to whoever found this good print of an old movie. Most from this era are bad; the 1962 Cornel Wilde movie, CONSTANTINE AND THE CROSS, is unwatchable. These are all mostly fiction, ignore their tiny bits of history and you'll enjoy it more. They were called "peplum" and were made following the success of the Steve Reeves HERCULES movies from the late 1950s. They hired Victor "the Hunk" Mature to play Hannibal. .It was one of his last movies and I think this one and DEMETRIUS AND THE GLADIATORS are his best. RIP Vic, a good guy in real life they say.

I had seen this movie when I was a teenager, good to have found it again here….thank you for sharing…..today’s films just don’t cut it for me, many lack depth of character and story, too much CGI and now AI intelligence, plus I’m tired of listening to sexual overtones and 😮 foul mouthed language in them….it does nothing to make the story better nor for a good romantic story, it becomes less appealing. ❤️🙏🏼🥰

They were African elephants trained by africans. Because hannibal and his father named hamilcar were ethiopian. King macinaceus the king of Numidia was black ethiopian and BEGGED and was arranged to marry hannibals ethiopian niece. He was a moor. He could not marry her and he felt betrayed and immediately joined scipio africanus in the battle of zama in 202ad. Hannibal lost this final battle and africa was renamed AFRICA. It was originally called alkebulan. The new Denzel Washington movie about hannibal is coming out and will immediately change the word why???? Because this Carthage history shows the blacks beginning the Italian race….it shows Egypt being ethiopian black for 20k+ years. That backlash destroys Islam overnight. Because the first Arabs were kushite blacks. Extremely brutal people then.

Perhaps with maturity on my part now there are some elements that do not really mesh well.. Historically Hannibal was Carthaginian from the city of Carthage an important trading rival to ancient Rome, in what is now modern day Tunisia, in North Africa. As such historians agree that it is logical that Hannibal used African Elephants. Not the INDIAN Elephants used in this film. The Indian sub-species is noticeably smaller than it's African counterpart and has a more pronounced domed shape to the cranium. However the most notable difference is undoubtedly that the African elephant has far Larger Ears than the Asian variants..Has anyone else been struck the the number of times we saw some of Hannibal's infantry slip and lose their footing on tortuous narrow mountain paths, before plunging to their death, hundreds of feet below. However none of the elephants, massive and cumbersome though they maybe and as I recall, only one of the unfortunate horses met the same fate. Perhaps 1950's audiences were less distracted by anomalies and just prepared to accept whatever Hollywood dished up...?
