My 450L tends to always get hot when I ride. I put on the thermo delete kit and that helped a lot. I still can only go so far on single track though. I’m sure fixing the fan will help too. But my buddy has the RX and his doesn’t get that way. If I ride my dads ktm it doesn’t get that way. Just the journey of figuring things out. Listened to your video about forks. I had no idea your supposed to release the air pressure. I’ve been noticing my suspension getting real stiff. Thanks for that! Im just gonna have to keep learning and your listening to you is helping me a lot. Thank you!
Definitely excited see what you guys have to offer on the cam kit. I have a 450rl that I mainly supermoto would be nice to have the extra power and go see another option out past SDPH kit.
Would be interessted, if you measured the oil temperatures and judged the effect of the thermostat on these. Thanks for your proffesional work and for sharing the results.
Thanks for the update, I’ve been following your CRF content. Honestly all of your content haha. Great channel! Recently installed the Taco Moto GET ECU on my CRF. I did all of the idle adjustments in the app (adding 13% fuel to the idle) and got it in range for 1900 rpm and it cold starts amazing. No choke necessary. But it’s not starting well when the bike is hot, like just cruised down the freeway for 30 miles hot in normal riding conditions. Takes a few try’s and some throttle to turn her over. Is this something you have encountered on your test bike?
@@cdub_92I did set the TPS in the app, the first time I forgot to put the app into expert mode so I had to go back and change that in settings to get a proper 100% throttle open position. I also adjusted the idle through the app, taco Mike did a video on how to navigate that part of the app for idle adjustment. As for my original comment above, the bike is getting better at starting while at operating temp. It’s almost as if the ECU learns over time with the machine it’s being mated with. That’s how it feels to me. On open trails when I can ride in third gear it will start easy after a stop. If I ride single track in first gear for 30 mins and then stall and have to start it back up it will struggle a bit. But that makes sense so I just turn the key off then back on to reset the battery and that usually helps her get a strong start. Happy riding!
@@anthonyridesphilly sounds like you got it straightened out! That’s great man. I agree with your comment about the ECU learning over time. I believe that the stock ECU does the same. It makes sense to gather data over time so that the computer can learn how the machine is being ridden. It can then use the data to optimize the combustion cycle for best possible performance. Cheers! Ride safe
Will customers that purchased the Taco Moto SX1 be required to purchase the new updated mappings for the RL? Or will they be given to us free of charge? I understand that the new LED map switch will have to be bought, but have been curious as to whether the customers will get the improved engine maps.
@@TACOMOTOCO this is the way! Thanks Mike. Appreciate everything you’re doing for us Honda guys even though you’re a KTM rider and owner. I’ll definitely be ordering the map switch. Have you improved any of the tunes since getting the dyno?
Looks good, eager to see what you have ready in the fall. My Vortex has been pretty good so far on my 450L but would love to try the SX1. Do you all run stock clutch on the Honda bikes?
I rode a friends 2019 crf450rl and I forget if he had the yoshi and vortex yet, but the engine was blazing hot next to my leg. It heated up that frame rail next to the pipe and you couldn't put a finger on it for more than half a second. Do you notice that on your bikes? We're in Georgia/South Carolina. In the summer it can stay 90+ on summer days
A dual sport bike ridden year around by an enthusiast compared to a race bike prepared by factory mechanics ridden by a professional rider These are very different bikes having very different experiences
Just to tail this behind Mike, the Baja teams want to remove as much heat as possible during the race. There is a balance between fuel consumption, total power output, and engine damage that has to be met. You lean out the fuel mix, internal temps rise and more coolant flow is needed. If the bike isn't being run flat out it's entire useful life, the thermo should be used. The KLR is a good example of a poor thermostat design and cause cylinders to warp with heat cycling.
How is this comparing to a bike with just an ecu . Let’s say vortex or sx1 ecu’s .. Also with swapping cam shaft , any concern on reliability, longevity… service intervals … We mainly ride on dunes and desert
This bike has a taco moto get sx1 ecu The r bike cam is more aggressive and flows more air and demands more fuel and that will have a slight impact on maintenance requiring a closer watch on things like oil changes and valve lash
If you had to choose an all around light adventure bike/super moto/single track /open road which bike would you choose I’m looking at between the KTM 500 beta 430/500 450RL or a 690 KTM/husquavarna
Depends on what style of riding you plan on doing the most of. Do you plan on using it for the road? Off road? Supermoto? There’s are a lot of factors that go into this. Being more clear about what you’re looking for in a bike would allow someone to give you a better suggestion.
You are covering a wide range of activities in which every motorcycle will have compromises. If you are doing stretches on tarmac and fast paced double track, the showa suspension, geometry (fron stability) and reduced vibration of the Honda crf450rl is awesome. The subframe on the 450 is really solid for holding gear If you want to do more single track then get a KTM 500 (or variant there of).
@@Insaiyanrider I’d have to agree with the guy above. For adventure riding, I believe the Honda to be the best bike for that. For single track, true off roading like a dirt bike, the KTM is probably better in stock trim. Don’t sleep on the Honda though. I bought mine to ride exclusively off road and it loves it.
How is this bike on the roadways.... more importantly, can she ride at 75mph w/o too high of revving/vibration on the bike. Hey, I'm can't tell anyone much as I'm just trying to research before I buy.... I'm just getting all the info from everywhere & will pick what will work the best. I appreciate what you've said & indeed that is a mighty tall order that has me also including the 650L, DR650, and KLR 650 as part of the ones I'm looking at. And money is another problem for me so as I'm saving I'm taking the time to figure all this out. IF you know one stand out bike, some info that you think I might want, or just a favorite, please feel free to throw it out here. My questions aren't bad & you may help some other people indirectly in your answer. With that, ty again for the post. peace
