My problem of recent years is carrots just not germinating. Parsnips too. From reading around I think they need to be a lot warmer than early Feb planting. Never used to be a problem, perhaps I used to be lazier and not try to start them too soon.
Yeah I've done them in previous year early without much if any protection and I've waited an age for them to germinate. This year I just waited and they were away in no time at all

It was just old water from my water butt that was a bit stagnant 😬
