    Fantastic overview! Just a small point, I believe you can use the buttons to adjust lighting, rather than tapping and letting go. Tap brightness or warmth in the menu, depending on which you wish to adjust, and tap the top button (oddly) to reduce, and bottom button to increase, either brightness or warmth. The Kobo UI does need a lick of paint.

    5:17 Thank you for pointing out that a sunken screen looks better than one with flush screen and bezel. I think you're the only one among the tech reviewers who discussed that. As a voracious reader, I have observed that I prefer reading on the Paperwhite 3, Kobo Clara HD and Kobo Libra H2o than the Paperwhite 4 and Oasis. TBH, I think the Paperwhite 3 is my favorite out of all the e-readers I tried. The best reading experience thus far - no newly-released e-readers can even compare.

    Hi, I bought the Kobo libra 2 after having several kindles, and i was so happy with the quality and features for 6 months until one day everything went south, the magnets stopped working in my ereader, the screen glitched, portrait mode was locked and i went to kobo and i got THREE WHOLE FULLY REFURBISHED REPLACEMENTS over the span of 1 year and i am very gentle with my products and have cases and had no faults of use, the screen would die like clockwork after 3 months, and im SO disappointed in kobo and its build quality. It CREAKED holding it, all 4 of my kobo libra 2s and the magnets with sleep covers stopped working and auto rotation all the very same issues. Beware if youre buying this device!!!! I ended up selling my latest refurbished one, new and unopened because i just couldnt deal with it dying again if it did in 3 months. I'm off to buy a kindle paperwhite now because of the homogenous production and stability. -.-

    At this point, it's pretty lame that Kobo is still using Dropbox as a selling point for their higher-end devices. Cloud-based book storage is a common feature for e-readers nowadays.
    it’s annoying as the Kobo Forma/Sage/Elipsa has it but they won’t implement it on the lower end Kobos even though it’s clearly possible.

      @@JoshSinnott97 An Android e-reader can support Android's wider ecosystem. You can choose between a range of reading, audio, podcast apps, supported formats, fonts, even game on them. They can be expensive, requiring better hardware, and e-Ink UI can feel clunky. I suggest the PW5 or Libra 2 if you mainly want to use an e-ink display for reading, or if you're on a budget the previous models PW4 or Libra H2O.

    • @JoshSinnott97
      @JoshSinnott97 2 года назад

      Thank you for the reply. I seriously considered an e ink android but every model I found was either way too expensive or had questionable build quality. I also looked into pocketbook, the synchronisation with their app meaning I can continue reading on my phone if I didn't have my ereader with me was a cool feature worth considering (kobo only does this for books that have been bought in the kobo store) but I've heard that pocketbooks quality isn't the best either and aren't built to last.
      With all that in consideration, I think the Libra 2 will be the best fit for me. I'm hoping to buy one in a week or two.

    Interesting you mentioned that there's shadows around the bezels on the Kindle and none with the Kobo. Just got the new paperwhite 3 days ago and I can vouch the screen is amazing. Even lighting, crystal clear text, no blotches. So ... This is what I did. I got the Kindle Paperwhite 5. Yes, I went straight opposite to the main idea that was implicit on the video. My impressions are these so far:
    -the lighting on the Kindle seems a little dimmer, which I find it to be nicer on the eyes.
    -The manga experience is out of this world. In fact, I think the Kindle Paperwhite 5 could be the best manga E-reader, of the small size category E-readers. The Contrast isn't that bad at all.
    - The responsiveness of this device is on another level. It's almost like a Tablet. Really fast! The fastest I have tried so far.
    -The flush screen: this is the point where Peter will say: I told you so. Yes, it seems that a Flush screen does affect the way the eyes perceives the letters on the screen, it's on the tablet/phone side, it doesn't feel bookish like the sunken screens. And that's... Well, that is a pity. I do think it's a great device for comics and manga, I swear it looks freaking awesome. But when you start reading a book... It just doesn't feel the same. So I took a resolution. I would not buy these device if I were to read books(outside of comics and manga). I also want to say that I believe (personal opinion, this whole comment is my personal amateur opinion btw) all flush screens may have this issue. (Sage, Oasis, Elipsa, Lumi...).
    -finally, PDF. In short, Peter was also right about this. Hands down the best PDF reader I have tried. On the small size E-readers section. Onyx is probably the best PDF reader, Or Remarkable since it doesn't have a flush screen.

    i cant decide which ecosystem is better between the kobo, kindle, or nook as most of the books im interested in are anime, while it may not seem to be an issue to most people at first. unfortunately there are quite a few that can be purchased in store physically, it is downright unavailable "legally" in digital format due to licensing issues. For example any of the "Gundam The Origin" or " Gundam Thunderbolt" manga is unavailable anywhere digitally.
    If i were to somehow get them in epub or any other format from elsewhere, which e-reader would you all recommend me as i know kindle is out of the question because its amazon only. my budget is $170 but lower would be good too.

    Another significant detail is the Kindle has 10 weeks of battery life vs. Kobo's 6 weeks. This will be significant a few years down the line because the Kobo's battery would have deteriorated more than the Kindle as a result of more frequent recharging. In theory that would make the Kindle more durable. My previous Kindle lasted 10 years and the reason I replaced it was because the battery was no longer holding its charge.

      I have both. My takeaway is this:
      1. The H20’s handle, with it’s hard crease, is definitely more comfy to hold one-handed than the aggressive lip on the Libra 2. The L2 isn’t uncomfortable, but the H20 feels wonderfully good sitting in one hand.
      2. The Libra 2’s screen is sharper than the H20. You won’t notice until you compare them side-by-side, but once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
      3. The L2 is a good bit heavier than the H20, but it also feels sturdier.
      4. The L2’s night-mode is SO, SO, SO nice when reading in the pitch dark. This is a game-changer for me, since I read in bed a lot.
      5. The L2’s screen light is more even and natural-looking than the H20. It’s sublime to read on. Not that the H20’s screen is bad by any means, but like the screen sharpness, once you compare the two, you can’t un-notice it.
      I love both of them. If you regularly read in complete darkness, go for the Libra 2. If you already have a Libra H20 and you don’t read in complete darkness, there’s honestly not much reason to upgrade, in terms of actual reading experience. If you read one-handed for long periods of time and can’t switch hands for whatever reason, or rest it on something, stick with the H20.

      @@elvinventucillo4501 Good point elvin. I do have to say that white does look very clean. I usually set the margins very close to the edge, so in essence, the bezel IS the margin. • @elvinventucillo4501
      @elvinventucillo4501 2 года назад +3

      @@markguox makes sense. However black bezels will provide an optical illusion that renders the page to look whiter than it actually is because of the contrast. The white bezels would seem to have a more gray page because of the white bezels being compared by your eyes to the page. My personal experience is that when i read on a page with white bezels my eyes shift towards outside the page and i notice things outside of the page and with black bezels i do not notice the surrounfing areas. It is really weird but that is my experience. I guess this is also the reason why TVs do not normally have white bezels because immersive viewing is the intended experience for the device.

    I don't know if its manipulated by purpose or by mistake. I took my paperwhite 3, I downloaded the Naruto Manga (you can have free sample on Amazon) and I opened the same page as on 10:00. On my Kindle everything is super sharp. Much sharper than this paper 5, or even more than kobo from video. As you clearly can see even at the beggining, there is some problem with focus on the left side of screen where paperwhite 5 lays - and at the same time on the very right side of paper 5 screen (and center of video) everything is focused. So, my conclusion, either this review is done like that by purpose, or mistake. But if it's mistake this lack of focus wouldn't be visible by naked eye so the author shoudl know somethin is wrong. So - conclusion is yours folks. For me this channel is done.

    • @gen_pixel
      @gen_pixel 2 года назад +1

      @@jseger9000 sunken screens are more prone to scratches because the external layer that is exposed is thinner than the one on a flush screen, not the other way around. There is even a video here of flush vs sunken screens that mentions that, and from my experience with both kind of devices, I can assure that sunken screens do get damage more easily. And as far as I know you cannot fix a Kobo screen with superficial scratches (I contacted them, and the only option is to buy a new one). If its a device meant to be taken on a trip, take it to the beach, etc, even with a case a bit of sand can end up on the device.
