Watching this reinforces my long held belief that Slade have not been revered as high as they should be. They were a truly great rock n roll band! They did not and do not have to be cool because the songs are so good.

Slade were the best ever band that has ever existed. Glam rock was amazing, and at the top was Slade. I remember those days as full of talent, absolute talent, not just talent here and there, but throughout. Tough times and yet the best of times as far as music was concerned. Now we have very few talented bands, you have to go searching for them

Since '64 when I first saw the Beatles then Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, YES and so on. Oh my was a blast ... but then Slade came over and ... meh ... "skinhead" group (sadly utter nonsense by the press) and was dragged to the show by a mate who had a spare ticket. By about the second or third song EVERYONE were either standing on their seats or packing the aisles. I have not seen any band in a large venue do that before or since.
To me Slade were hands down the most exciting and entertaining live band of all time.

The greatest time ever. What a wonderful musical beat. I came from the 60's music, and was a big Hendrix fan, but I still loved 70's music. Here it is Merry Christmas is still No.1 every Christmas. Music that made your feet want to dance. Yup, the big five of glam rock were: Slade, Sweet, Glitter, Bolan, and Bowie. Bowies Ziggy Stardust and Starman just blew my mind completely. Slade for that gut wrenching loud stand up and dance your heart out music. The Sweet for the drummer who wore make up and lipstick like a woman, and who would set my father off with 'Look at that poof' statements whilst watching Top of The Pops. Very different times and attitudes then, no mobiles, no computers, no internet, but wonderful music, and clearly remembered.

I was 10 years old in 1977 and a very shy boy. So at school parties I didn't have the courage to ask a girl to dance like my friends did, I just watched them have fun and took some records that my family had many and one of them was the single of the song SHE DID IT TO ME by Slade. Everyone just wanted to hear this song that was good for dancing in a tight embrace almost kissing the girls so close that the face was. This song gave me the courage to ask a girl to dance for the first time and she accepted. Years later I started to enjoy the pop of the 80's but I liked the 60's/70's rock bands much more, among them Slade and I will always remember that what this song did to me...

They weren't good at singing Martha my dear by Paul McCartney,it must of been interesting for Eric Faulkner from bay city rollers being on the top of the pops, and the bay city rollers show in Manchester,1975 since Eric opened for them in England with his liberton high school, Edinburgh, Scotland, called witness,as Eric has said in interview he was a big Slade fan, they got the idea for their clothes, since they had to change, theirs been talk about a Liverpool fan saying plad, which is an American thing, said Bilbo baggins, but no it was Slade, Eric and Slade would of had alot to talk about, interesting.

"Buy me a rocking chair, to watch the world go by
Buy me a looking-glass to look me in the eye..."
I grew up in the American south in the 80s and had never heard of Slade, so my first hearing was in a shopping mall in 2009, visiting my then-new (now-ex) husband's family for Christmas in Scotland. The marriage ended but Slade's appeal obviously has not.
I'd love to hear a recording of the initial version of this track--the lyrics are pulling me into a late 60's George Harrison or Eric Clapton/Cream vibe... It sounds magically playful and curious.

The Beatles were great, we all know that .But these guys Slade, were out of this world.,Give the Beatles the 60's. But you have to give Slade the 70's.

I have to answer in english. I`m a bit younger(60) and like you I remember the haydays of this band. We all turned our thumbs down because this band. Simply because it was music with no depths in relation to all our favorite bands like Uriah Heep, Genesis, music like that. It took a long time to realise how wrong we all were.

First band I saw, April '74 King George's Hall, Blackburn aged 12. Totally blew me away! Ears ringing for weeks. Been to a lot of concerts since then but I'm not sure anything ever quite topped that experience. Still got the ticket, £1.40 :)

I don't think I ever got Slade, not my cup of tea back in the day. But listening to them now they certainly had something I missed back then. Well done Slade, I hear you differently now.

Great memories of really happy and good music in my youth in South Africa. My first record was Slade in Flame. Songs were fabulous and if I had to pick onr I loved, it was Far Far Away, which stirred up some romantic emotions of things that I did and remembered and missed. God bless chaps. Thanks a lot.

Now that was a band! They appealed to so many people and I can't think of many bands that spanned such a broad listenership and made so many so happy. The quality of songwriting was as varied as it it was brilliant. Every serious Music fan must love at least a handful of Slade tracks - if not everything they ever did!!
