❤ Thank you for showing me the way! Great!! DxO PureRAW 3 is fantastic! Now aperture f8.0 on a Canon RF 100-400mm lens is not a big problem. I have a Canon R10 body and was choosing between Canon RF 100-400mm, Sigma 100-400mm, Tamron 100-400mm and Tamron 18-400mm. I think that a native lens is the best solution for various reasons: 1) better compatibility with the camera 2) dimensions, weight, no adapter needed 3) the motor is fast, quiet and accurate 4) no focus breathing 5) and lastly: information from your great video
I have this combo which supplements my R5 with 100-500. I use the R10 when traveling mainly in Spain. I love the portability of the smaller kit and it performs much like the R5 in many ways. I do notice I have to do more post processing manipulation to achieve what I want but it is certainly worth it.
I bought this combo 6 months ago as my first wildlife/bird equipment and cannot be more satisfied with the results, given how much it has costed. I easily carry it on 10km birding sessions, and even carried it on a couple of 25km ones! About all technical characteristics, advantages and downsides, I can only agree with Fabian and confirm literally all what he said in the video.
Thank you for making this great video. I have the same setup but I'm considering to upgrade to the R7, and offcourse I would also like to try the 1.4x and knowing that I may be disappointed. Would the 1.4x perform better with the R7?
I use my R7 with the RF100-500, mostly for birds, and I am extremely happy with this setup. I also struggled over the choice between adding the 1.4x TC vs the 800mm F11 prime, which are very similar in reach (700 vs 800 mm) and maximum aperture (F10 vs F11). I had the opportunity to compare and was pleasantly surprised by the IQ and AF performance with the TC, though this may be a function of the R7 sensor (32MP) and optical quality in the RF100-500 ie the same may not be true with the R10/RF100-400.
I'd avoid r10 and get the r7 despite it's like 300 400 usd more expensive, it's so worth it. Only if I could get the money, but the r10 is fine too. R7 is just better. The ibis works magic on the lenses with no IS and there are a lot of great and cheap video lenses with no IS. Despite it's 32 megapixels, it still doesnt suffer much from the demanding sensor with the 100 400 combo. Even with the 1.4 extender, always max out your gear to the limits. In this case for apsc bodies, r7 shines the most.
I have a RF100-400mm and R6, so I wonder if it worths to buy a R10 to get a longer focal length. Have you tested the AF tracing smaller flying birds? Thank you!
If you need to crop a lot, then it could be an option. But the AF of the R6 and R5 is generally more consistent than the R10. Maybe save for a 100-500 to pair with your R6? 😊
Hi Fabian, I bought r10 last year I was searching for wildlife lense. Thank you for you video. It's great. Can you suggest 1.4x or 2x converter. What effect will it do to image. 1.4x will give 560 on this lense. What do you think? Love from India❤
Can u please explain the combination of canon EOS R10 n Tamron 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD ....is it good to invest in that instead of canon rf 100-400 mm as a newbie in wild n bird photography
why is that important beacuse my budget is upto a r50 i was looking at a r100 before but then it did not have animal eye tracking so r50 i thought and r50 with kits lens is 569 r10 is 699 where i am atleast@@FabianFoppNaturephotography
I'd be wary of the FPS numbers Canon are throwing around, they claimed the R7 could shoot 30fps but at those speeds the AF algorithm struggles to keep up and you lose a lot of images. The best you can get is 15 fps and even then I had issues. I'd also mention the fact that the R10 and RF 100-400 isn't weather sealed.
Yes, unfortunately this holds true for many other cameras of the „lower“ segment where the AF can be limiting. You are right about the weather sealing, but I don’t know many beginner bird photographers that care too much about that
Those photos are a clear example of why you should date your body cameras and marry your lenses... Man, they can't look that professional, I just bought R10 as my 1st camera for 700$ and wasn't hoping that much, to be honest....
I left Canon because the totally neglect the aps-c lenses. They only have kit lenses for aps-c and fullframe lenses are overpriced. For wildlife I went fuji.
@@FabianFoppNaturephotography everything is in the manual of the camera. For someone switching from DSRL to mirrorless - the lack of a button to switch from the EVF to LCD - its a pain. And also, the sensor that is detecting if smth is close to the evf is also working on its own rules when the camera is strapped to "side" (like a mail bag). Real world points - no a word about that in these videos. But videos based on the manual - plenty.
You can assign this function to flash button or some other button its not very difficult to rearrange buttons , it is very easy once you learn how to do it , and its not that painfull to read instructions ;)
You can buy the equipment here (affiliate links):

Yes, I would definitely go for the Canon lens. Have fun
For that money, this definitely is an amazing kit for beginners.
Yes!
Thank you! So happy to see a recent video covering this topic. For bird photography I imagine tracking AF is a must!
Thanks! The eye tracking certainly makes it easier

Super helpful video, Fabian. I’ve been thinking about buying this combo but I wouldn’t find any videos on this specifically. Thank you. Cheers
Happy to hear that the video was helpful
My exact set-up for wildlife photography. A great combination at a reasonable cost.
Glad to hear that you are happy with the combo
Thank you! I just purchased the R 10 this week. Enjoyed your video.
Have fun!

Super helpful video. I am planning to purchase this combo soon.
Happy to hear
This is a good lens. I use it on a R8. The size of this combo impresses. Excelent review!
Thanks!

Thanks! Hmm, I personally would not buy the 1.4x with any aps-c camera and the RF100-400. rather save the money to buy the RF100-500 L at some point

I have canon eos R50 with rf50mm 1.8 and wanted to get a zoom lens as well. Probably will go for rf 100-400 mm
Enjoy!
Great vid! And lets thank canon too for the budget friendly rf 200-800mm just released!
I‘m looking forward to test that one!
Really useful video and well presented, thank you.
Thanks
Thank you for this excellent video
You‘re welcome
Great video. Very helpful in deciding on a new camera and lens. For what scenarios would you recommend the R7 over the R10?
Thanks! It has a brighter viewfinder, better batterylife, nicer handling, better buffer, dual sd cards, slightly higher resolution, …
@@FabianFoppNaturephotography Great overview! What are the kind of use cases in which these differences are particularly relevant?
Excellent informative video!
Thanks

I have a r10 canon and 100~400 which mode I will used auto focus or manual please be advise thx
I would use autofocus 99% of the time
Do you think manual/auto ISO is the way to go with this setup? Or TV, or AV mode? Thanks!
I used M with auto ISO most of the time

Great info! Thank you. Is it practical or possible to mount my Minolta A mount 210mm lens on this body? Will it even work?
Maybe there is an adapter, but I would not do that
@@FabianFoppNaturephotography Thank you! I appreciate your advice. Happy trails
Curious if you tried an EF lens with it for birding, like a EF 70-300?
No, I never tried that

Yes, I already did review of that lens
What about the r50???
Smaller buffer, no joystick and (at least where I live) not much cheaper. I would definitely go for the R10
Hi,will the Rf800 be good with Canon R10?
In general it should work well and give you a lot of reach. Just keep in mind that the ISO will go up if it gets a bit darker

I have EOS RP with 100-400mm
Have fun!
Tamron also can make same 100-400mm even lighter for Nikon, Sony and other brands camera.
Really? The 100-400 I know from Tamron is much heavier. How exactly is it called?
I left Canon because the totally neglect the aps-c lenses. They only have kit lenses for aps-c and fullframe lenses are overpriced. For wildlife I went fuji.
Have fun with Fuji then! Is there something more affordable than the Canon RF100-400?
enough Canon, I love Nikon. Nikon d7000-d500
Have fun with your Nikon
Yet another video not talking about "how to switch" between EVF and LCD "shooting mode".
That’s pretty basic stuff and doesn’t really fit for a review, wouldn’t you agree? This is even in the manual if the camera

I never had an issue with that. No Canon R camera has such a button. You can change in the menu how the viewfinder/screen should change
