The only thing I've noticed everywhere I go in Mexico is that the people are always extremely friendly. Definitely the best people to get a beer with, or a glass of mezcal
@Sabbatical @7:30 I'm not from Veracruz, nor do I, admittedly, have any real world experience with such things... But to me, those looked suspiciously like bullet holes left from a firing squad. And not from just a single execution, either. The real question, to me, is not what are we looking at. But when was it made?
@@remcovanvliet3018 you are correct, it is from the 1812 execution of 6 insurgents in Veracruz. probably from multiple firing squads(I also would not be surprised if some are newer, that is ALOT of holes for the execution of 6 people)
Im addicted to your videos. I ran across the one of your trip to Lagos and now I'm watching each one in order. (I've been to Lagos, Nigeria; Accra, Ghana; Teague, South Korea, and Fulda & Heidelberg Germany) Getting out of the US bubble is the best thing ever happened to me. 😊
I am also watching his videos in the "right" order right now. It's great that you were able to gain such wonderful experiences. I hope you had a great time here with us! I live near Heidelberg. It's always fascinating to me when people take the long way from abroad just to explore this little corner of our world. I can relate, though. Even the smallest American suburb would make the explorer in me jump 😊
On the external walls of the Baluarte de Santiago, the first Veracruz Insurgents were shot on July 29, 1812, six young men who, coordinated by the merchant Antonio Merino and instructed by General Ignacio Allende, began the independence insurrection in the city and port of Veracruz. You can still see the perforations of the rifle in the place.
Started binging your videos a few weeks ago and realised like any good beer or fine wine I need to start where it all began and work my way to the present watching every single one of these in chronological order!
From what I saw on your vlogs you spoke Spanish, Swahili, Frech and of course English ..Been wondering what are the other languages and yeah youre amazing.
I really enjoy these down to earth travel vlogs. Tommy is like a doctor in linguistics, but without any attitudes. Watching will make you wise but humble. 😊
I'am a Cajun/Creole but I'am also a Canary Islander descendant, My great grandparents landed in Veracruz in 1730 and walked all the way to San Antonio to establish government and build San Fernando Cathedral. They also brought the first cattle to North America.
Just discovered your channel, great content. I'm from Veracruz, i live in a zone nearby the streets you visited hahaha it would've been great to see you
That last shot with the dancing class... why i love mexico so much.. Theres still a societal fibre there without the internet...SO EASY to make friends or meet a nice girl from just..... omg..SOCIALIZING!!!
I'm from Veracruz, el baluarte de Santiago usted to look a lot more like San Juan de Ulúa but they "restored it" by putting that horrible paint or wathever that beige thing is, I personally hated it cause I have such great memories around that place since my highschool is few blocks from there, honestly I don't know how come it got bullet marks but I don't think they are actual bullet shots, gov would have them covered immediately as Veracruz is a very touristic place. 🤔
Another battle that was pivotal with the American civil was with the French and Mexican armies was the 5th of May 1862, Battle of Puebla. The Mexicans won this battle, but lost the war with the French. This battle lost, helped prevent an alliance with the American Confederate south and the French, less help for the south, helped shorten the American civil war.
I've found Sabbatical, Tommy is by far the least pretentious, and most humble of the "white bloke travel vlogs" the others come off as pretentious. Or I could just be biased bc i'm a new yorker lol
The modern version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, with Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio, was filmed in Veracruz... About the Vocho (VW Bug) that you intended to get into at the end, it was probably built in Mexico. A friend of mine had one with a built-in truck box on the back. I asked him if it was a '68, and he look at me strange, and said "no, its a '95"... What Woodrow Wilson demanded of the Mexicans to do and say during that invasion is pretty cringe worthy. But what do you want from the guy who brought Jim Crow Laws to the nation's capital, and then had the guts to say during his speech to convince Congress to declare war on Germany, "We need to make the world safe for democracy". I call that double mindedness "Jeffersonian Schizophrenia", many American presidents have suffered from it. He is also the guy who pushed the Sedition Act, where everyone who was against the war was put into prison. But it came to bite him in the butt, when after going to the conference at Versaille he came back to the US to push for Congress to ratify his League of Nations, he realized that he had put everyone who would want to help ratify all in prison. ¡Pinche pendejo!
I don't know you from Adam, Tommy. I believe you have perfect concentration and a photographic memory .It also crossed my mind about you maybe being a G man. Ummmm???
I already loved your channel but now I'm going back and watching these for the Spanish. I'm moving to a region in the US (Eastern Washington state) with a high Hispanic population so I've started teaching myself Spanish using Duolingo. So far it's working okay but I can tell I need to have conversations in Spanish or I will never learn to understand it when people are speaking quickly. Reading is fine but actually speaking it is kind of difficult.
3:40 The kid when you were buying the glasses was saying "en 100 te los dejo" which means "give me a 100" and then you offered 120 and ended up paying 130 😅
Hi there! love your videos! I thought Tainos was an indigenous Cuban tribe. do you mean Spaniards formed a sort of a legion of them and made them colonize Mexico ?
Your kind of travel vlogging is amazing. Unbiased and i dunno. The way you talk in your vlogs and with people around you is very natural. You'll gonna go places. And by sayin you'll gonna go places i mean both ways. As for travelling and growth on your YT channel.
Can y’all even begin to imagine how much gold and silver was stolen from Mexico 500 years ago and taken to Europe? I traveled to Austria and even Monctezuma’s original headpiece is out there… WHATTTT! History and the way events in the world have turned out is so sad.
I met a young couple in Mexico City from Vera Cruz they where very nice unfortunately that part of the country was once under zeta control the war between zetas and the gulf cartel probably cost 100,000 lives sickening violence came with it
And at 14:17, te way the guy on the left raised his arm means "chinga a tu madre", wich is an insult that means "go fuck your mother", but don't worry, it's commonly used between friends as a soft insult hahaha
Funny how when you got the glasses he was gonna sell them to you for 100 pesos which he went down 50 from the og price and you were tripping out how they made a noise and asked them if you could get them for 120 hahaha

Something like 8 to 14 depending on how you define "speak". I'll make a video about this someday. Probably. Maybe
