- Canary Islands cruise! Join us on board the P&O Azura ship as we stop off in Funchal Maderia Portugal. We disembark the ship nice and early for a sunrise walk along the harbor and to be first in line at the cable car station to go up for one of the famous Toboggan rides!
After a thrilling ride and something unique with the Toboggans, we head back down into the town to explore, having something to eat and to also try the traditional drink in Madeira, some Poncha!

Abit disappointing that places like Madeira don’t cater for allergies especially Funchal a universal capital. Especially I wanna go to Madeira and I’m Coeliac ( can’t eat gluten)

It was interesting to see your video but if this is a correct view of your visit you did not get to the centre of Funchal , The main street is the Avenida Arriaga which has the main buildings ,cafes shops the municipal park etc and is the main place to see and be seen. You also missed the main shopping centre,' La Vie' which is beautiful having the up market brands,. cafes, a supermarket , and a great chocolate shop.
There are direct flights from Tenerife so you should go back for a long weekend to see what you missed and also get into the mountains.
personally i wouldn't do more than a couple of days in Madeira
Never been on a cruise before so not sure how it works - are the buffet meals included in the price of your package? Xx
All meals( full board )are included…main restaurant..and buffet etc however there are some specialty restaurants on board with a small charge..but you dont need to use them…
I Live in North Wales, I Love your blogs gives me an insight of places I've never been too. But my daughter was on that ship in December and she enjoyed Maderi and the food on the Ship.

It’s a great place.
So pleased that you enjoyed your visit to Funchal, Andrew and Laura. Indeed, walking is the best way to see and experience it. The cobbled streets are typical of Portugal and its former colonies. As you say, cash is King. The old town is the best for restaurants but not being fish eaters, you will have missed the famous black scabbard! I often found that a small coffee shop, standing at the counter and drinking it there and then would be euros 1 for a coffee! Not the Starbucks service, but great value! Keep up the good work!

We used the 31 bus 5 euros all day, but took us up mountain to cable car, did both cable cars for under 21 euros to go across and down.

Just out of the cable car….we went to the Botanical Gardens ..worth a visit too…we like the Flower market in town too.

I can’t believe it took me years to find Madeira, wonderful place, safe, classy, no riff raff.
While I’ve enjoyed Tenerife over the years this place is so much better & my go to
New year cruises go there for the most amazing fireworks show…..
