      @@Esipode My fingers aren't too bad, I just stretch them out when I need to. I have more trouble with my elbows. I find if I don't crochet or knit for a few days, my fingers do hurt. It's a good thing to keep them active, or you'll lose your dexterity. Over time you'll get to learn little ways ease up on the way you hold your yarn, or your hook. It just comes with doing it. One time I stretched my fingers too far and tore a ligament in my baby finger. It's amazing what you will do to get rid of the pain! That was the only time I really had to stop for a while. I take my wips everywhere with me. My family and friends have been the recipients of a lot of items over the years, and it feels good to be able to do that for them. I've made things right in front of my husband, and he had no idea that what I was making was for him, lol! Crocheting is my creative outlet, and I can do it anywhere, anytime.

    A lot of yarn needles used to weave ends in are blunt. When you wove your ends in, you probably put them along or beside other pieces of yarn. It's more effective if you use a sharp needle and put your end *through* other pieces of yarn instead of just with or around them. Give it a try and see if it helps!

    • @Ellie-vw9lz

  • @snortlaugh5990
    @snortlaugh5990 Год назад +41

    When weaving in ends, weave in at least two different directions to really lock the yarn in. For granny squares with a front and back, find a method of keeping the squares together and in the right direction. A simple solution is a dowel on a heavy base - you can just stack the squares up (face up) putting the dowel through a hole in the square.
    All that said, your first attempt looks wonderful. As much as we want to be perfect in our art, it's the imperfections that give it your special spark. Embrace the backwards squares!❤

  • @tradconmom92
    @tradconmom92 4 месяца назад +1

    Hopefully i can explain this well...
    When you weave in your ends you can do 2 things to make them more secure
    1) weave them in opposite directions, like start weaveing it in going one way, then make a sharp turn and weave it in another reversed direction
    2) use a tapastry needle that has a sharp flat tip and instead of weaving the ends between your stitches you can split the yarn and weave it into a strand of yarn as well as doing the sharp turn technique.
    If you do these two things and make sure to block your work they should stay in place.
    As far as your boarder, when in doubt, go up a hook size so you'll guarantee the stitches are loose.
    If this is your first project you're a natural talent! My first few projects were an absolute mess and i still hate doing blankets because there are soooo many ends to weave in and soooo many opportunities for error.
    Dont be afraid to frog your work! Its more satisfying when you know how hard you worked at getting it perfect 👌
    *The blanket looks lovely! That granny square pattern would make a cute sweater also!*

    I’d recommend working on your knots to find secure ones that work for you, that way if your rails ever escape you can weave them back without worrying! And for the tension? That takes time and practice. ALWAYS use the exact same hook throughout. Even if they’re the same size you can end up with entirely different projects just because the different style made you hold your hook differently or something. Blocking can help too. But you did great for a first time! I think you chose a good place to start because you must’ve go used to a lot if the main stitches. You should be really proud:)

At the beginning it's tighter and then from the middle-end I made EXTREMELY BIG gaps. Because of the uneveness in the stitches it started to like wave if you know what I mean. It basically goes up and down up and down. Not to mention IT LOOKS LIKE A TRIANGLE because I frequently turned around on accident in the middle of a row because I didn't know which way it was facing because of the UNEVEN STITCHES and I also would sometimes forget to chain 1 on the end of a row😑😑😑😑

    You did a really great job on such a big project for a first try! I've been crocheting for over a decade, and the same things still happen occasionally. Last time I made a throw, it turned out beautiful, but had similar mistakes. Thankfully my tensioning was fine, but I had a colour change unravel, wrong sides out, ends pop out, and it took about ten washes for it to fully relax and actually look all slouchy and loose like I wanted it. 😅
    Now that's its nicely worn in, you can't really tell where the messups happened unless you really focus on looking lol. And that's the beauty of handmade things, they aren't perfect because humans aren't perfect. 😊

    That was a challenging pattern to take on for your first project!! Were there mistakes? Sure, but you will learn from them. I think you did an amazing job ❤

    a good rule in tieing up ends is the rule of three -- weave it in, then back, then in again

    @jesfraz In stead of weaving in your ends, crochet them in so the stay better.
