This is hands down the best combination of music, art, poetry, dance, theater. I just can't take my eyes off it. They are truly captivating.
My dad LOVED these guys. He had a huge box in our living room marked “RESIDENTS” that had everything he owned. Which was basically every album at the time on vinyl and CD, The Commercial DVD, the Eskimo DVD, and the Cube E box set. I watched the Germany performance or a Futurama DVD to fall asleep every night. Something about that performance calmed me down. I loved these guys and they hold so many memories for me.

I attended the NY show. Laurie Anderson was behind me - sleeping!
@@emersonshiff8132lol!!!!
Can't get enough of it - the only thing I regret is the fact that I did not see it twice. There was a second Cube E show in my town and I thought "OK, seen it". Wrong, so wrong!
I adore how all of this looks and feels, their get-up and the effects of it with the lights and the hypnotising movements all make a very unique experience
Masters of the Absurd
Natural Born Killers of Normality
Stone Cold Geniusses!
God. Imagine being alive to see this. Incredible.
I did. I was. Late 80's in Hamburg. It was very good: incredible, indeed. One of the cultural highlights of my life, right next to seeing/hearing Laibach play their live score to Macbeth in the Schauspielhaus, ebenda. It's good to [have]be[en] alive - then, and still! : )
Saw this at "New Music America" in 1990. One of the best show I ever witness along with La Monte Young played by Kronos Quartet presented during the same festival.
i saw this on Night Music with David Sanborn when it aired in the early 90s....true story!!
Saw this three times live Belgium Paris Holland .x was 18.
I saw this tour in Virginia in 89 or 90.
What an amazing show. Genius concept and performance. Very psychedelic. I hate to use that word to describe this but it truly is like entering an altered state.
i saw the show live in chicago -- probably the greatest show I've ever seen
+jamie pastman . Completely agree.
I've seen them/ the show in Berlin, agree :-)
So jealous. Always thought this was the coolest thing they did.
Agree. I've seen them the show in Zagreb, Croatia.
I was supposed to go but my bitter ex girlfriend got me disinvited. To this day it’s one of her proudest accomplishments.
Magnificent!-Bought Cube E in the local record store on cassette when it came out and still have it-wonderful upload-cheers!
I saw this show in Madison, WI in 1990. What a trip - and what a blast to see it again. I agree with other comments, the live experience it much more colorful and amazing.
brainphreak, you are doing all of youtube a huge service by making these videos availible, thank you so much!
I did some research and these guys are credited as the first band to use costumes.
I see people arguing whether Slipknot or Mushroom head did it first. Some people even say the band GWAR were the first.
No....these guys were the first (1969)
sort of blows the idea of "the cover" out of the water and over the side of the stage into the back alley in a snowstorm.
Such a rare cryptic beauty this band has. Everything they do is just so surreal and unique.
Saw the show at Saddler Wells Theatre, London. I concur - the best show I've ever seen. The video doesn't come close to the experience but thanks for uploading.
I love how they dance so dorky (dorkily?), it makes the whole experience that much more wonderful.
Super, Spectacular, Magnificent, Tremendous, Excellent, Astounding, Amazing, Brilliant, Awe- inspiring, Visually Titillating, and Absolutely Fantastic ! There are not enough words to praise these guys and what they do ! LOVE them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...love to the residents...it is just fuckin great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Greetings from Berlin(Germany)!
Love the video/sound quality. Ive still got this episode of Night Music with "From the Plains to Mexico" and "teddy Bear" on VHS.. was awesome seeing them share the stage with the late-great Conway Twitty. And to see them on the same episode with Sun-Ra.. Night Music was such a great show.
RIP Hardy Fox
the residents make me feel human
Yes. I feel that too... I haven't listen to this one yet but I know I will love it... Hihihi. Let's go :- )
I discovered The residents not more than 3 years ago with some friends and LSD, now I feel human in the most akward and disgusting way
its like hes telling you campfire stories
RIP :( at less we still have three of four, but soon we will lost one of the best musicians in history.
I Listen to the records from the scratch, my preferred albums are "Commercial Album" and "Eskimo". Sometimes Residents are bored, but they still rest some genious men!
Night Music (aka Sunday Night), was at the time, the best music show on TV, period. With The Residents performance , David Sanborn helped to turn followers like me, into unconditional admirers of this unclassifiable band, something that helped to forge my music taste forever.
Thankyou for sharing.
Patiently waiting for The Residents reschedule north American tour in 2021.
Cheers.
I've loved these guys since my undergrad days back in the late 70s. All my friends dug them too.
I saw them 4-5 times on this tour. My favorite version was the early shows they did at Lincoln Center in July of 89 before they added the baby king portion. It was actually The History of American Music in 2 EZ Pieces though they didn't promote it like that. Thanks for posting this long version of this clip.
Saw them also at Lincoln Center I was doing a summer session at college. Also great name buddy.

Interview With Hardy Fox (1989)
This is the first of their shows that I attended, in Amsterdam. Many more followed. Thanks for sharing
From the side looks like they're wearing tacos on their head!
Wonder if Sam herring of future islands has heard of these
I saw this show in Los Angeles back in the day. Not the best show they've done but it was not bad either! I would give it a 8 out of 10.
Saw the first two parts at Lincoln Center pre Baby King material. I remember getting that CD and freaking out my roommates in college.
Some parts look like an act of "The Muppet Show" gone wrong, especially with the Buckaroo Blues and The Baby King segments.
Thank you so much, you're making huge deeds for the culture by uploading these, so happy! :)
This video connected me with another CDrom artist from 26 years ago for a review and full-emu into the internet archive - thanks to you.
if my boyfriend licked this he wood say Caucasian get to the equater
Are those real trout masks?
just replicas ;-)
+Jan Schipper That was fast! And bulbous! And also: A thin....teardrop!
No. Just rep-... Oh, someone beat me to it.
The processional at 39 minutes is right out of Third Reich N Roll.
Benzo Laraine most of the "racism" is usually a satire of something else. They're known for that.
Benzo Laraine that, and they take their projects to the extreme when it comes to what they're about. At least they used to.
Benzo Laraine They're not racist
Hmm, that's called Santa Dog my friend.
Probably some the most compeling preformances by these Jean~Yus'IZzz!!!!
Genius.
Sooo jealous. They never seem to come to the UK anymore. I MUST see this band before I (or they) die. They have fascinated me since 1977. Thanks for the post.
So original i can't stop listening to these guys.
I saw this in Athens, first time the Residents performed in Greece. Twice in fact, first in spring 1990 and second in the autumn of the same year, as they came for a second time at the end of their european tour. What a breathtaking show that was !
BUY OR DIE ❄️😶❄️❣️😈❣️
I was thier too all 3 night's then NYE! It got even better after they toured!
I can't explain why I like this, but I really, really, really do.
true greatness

Saw this show in San Francisco at one of the Fort Mason shows Hardy mentions.
I still haven't recovered from that one!

Wonderful.
The Residents sound like………………… The Residents.
I think I have a new favorite band! I've listened to their music for year but didn't realize that the live show was 3/4 of the experience... Amazing art! wow!
you can see where the mighty boosh stole their ideas
Residents is my favorite band"!!!

This band has blown my wig off
Oh HECK yes...thank you!
jeez wish i'd been alive to see this tour
Thank you... just... Thank you!
brilliant stuff i love it
Wow. Night Music was a pretty great show, I had just seen this live a few weeks earlier (still the best show I've ever seen) so I was more effected by the WTF of seeing the Residents on network TV than the performance itself but it's so great to see it again.
great!
Awsome!
Papa Eméritus?

Whimsical
WHAT IS HE WEARING
An Elvis suite.
On his face
Top side of the face and head is a mask, the rest is make up...
The costume is a suit create with phosphorescent material, specially made to react with blacklight, also known as UV-A light. All the costumes, of the musicians and dancers, are made in the same way, so that they can react with the blacklight that is the only illumination of the stage. It's a pity that there are no videos of the performance of the song Love me Tender in the same show, with the two dancers with a "spectacular" costume - phosphorescent breasts and a brick wall over their heads... This is the kind of show that you see once and never forget.
These are how my dreams look like
