- Video cassette recording of a piece from BBC programme 'Riverside' on The Residents to publicise the Mole Show tour. I think it was 1983, though not 100% sure. Riverside was a 30-minute music programme that ran on the BBC from 1982-1983, often with remarkably dumb questions in the interviews. Good to see Penn Jillette looking so young.

Penn: "I am allowed pretty much a personal opinion..."
*green eye shaking his head no*
Penn Jillette was a perfect frontman for the Residents, it's great to see him come out in front of what many might consider a very intricate and self-absorbed performance, and explain the backstory in a minute or less, opening it up to everybody right off the bat.
I wonder if the motel anecdote (3:21) is all true, "I hated it... it was very foreign to me, and after a week of being in that room, I began to like it..." Hahaha, I love it!
Penn Jillette seems to be involved in every counterculture thing
Some of the best art to ever grace this earth
Penn looks and sounds so young in this video.
The shoulder pat is GOLD.
I have that tape of Penn Jillette in the hotel room with the Residents records. It's just as weird as you would imagine.
I have reacquainted myself with the Residents over the last 3 or 4 weeks and looked through everything that I can find; virtually every track ever released to live performances, documentaries, films and reviews as well as cover versions -well over 5000 uploads, just on youtube. Similar immersion, except I have known about the residents from the mid 70s and I am not locked in !
Chris Bodum What's that one called, the one with Pen Jillette in the hotel room, I have a cassette of it somewhere that I got from Ralph Records back in the early 80's but damned if I can find it and I can't remember what it was called.
Chris Bodum It was called "The 10th Anniversary Radio Special".
terrypussypower would u share?

I love how he just talks about it as the band members just observe random objects silently
I put a pen drawing of the Residents stood behind a mole in my art exam display at school. The teacher didn't rate it but I did. I wish I'd seen the Mole Show but I got the pic disc & Intermission.
Been a big fan since childhood and this is still one of my favourite videos of em. I have the 'Eyes Scream' documentary on VHS. Great stuff - You see how playful and inquisitive they can be! So much emotion in their actions, even behind masks!
The song @the beginning is "the new hyme " and the year was 1982. I caught the mole show in LA on Halloween nite.
amazing unique music/cabaret in surreal mode at its best, reminiscent of different eras and with dark undercurrents of mystery.
oh, sweet, the recordings are here on YT, too
this is excellent, thank you
I saw The Residents Mole Show in 1984 in Edinburgh, and my mate Andy gave Penn a swig of his 10 year old malt whisky , on stage! The Residents themselves wouldn't imbibe.
Very nice. I saw them in Munich. They were screened with netting. One of the lady dancers was very cute, even in costume.
It was '83/'84. Saw them at The Hollywood Palladium. "Everybody in the whole cell block... were dancing to The Jailhouse Rock".
Glad I got to see them few times 1st was this Moleshow 80" I think it was, last time was wormwood shows 99"😢
Thanks... I saw this on TV as a kid & have wondered about it ever since! :)
I saw the Mole Show with Penn and Teller hosting.
the ralph records 30th anniversary recording was pretty surreal. he went from indifferent to loathing to being their self-rpoclaimed number one fan haha
Quite unique.
Ahaha Blue-Eye patting Penn on the shoulder is great
"Are any of them gay?" Yes, behind the eyeball masks they're the Village People.
Hundred of years ahead of their time.
still love it!
Go to 3:14 and pause....
and tell me if Im wrong... but.... Penn looks like eddie vedder from pearl jam!
5:02 yes!
this was hilarious XD
Is that a face inside at 4:40?
What was the song at the very beginning of the video?
i meant 10th anniversary oh no
Insane Clown Posse
are you still alive?
Ain't Randy their frontman?
yesssssssssssssss
Big mouth ..they should write a song about Penn !
Stupid questions. It's been well known since the mid 80s (at least) that they never were a foursome.
This is from the early 80s
