Humming bird nesting in my building and two baby birds grown up and flew away recently... ❤ lovely experience to watch them for few days... God's creation is really amazing!!! Nice video 👌👍🐦🐦
This past season, a black-chinned hummingbird raised two babies inside one of my juniper bushes. Months after the babies fledged, I discovered the leftover nest by mistake. The mother hummingbird was still very territorial, got in my face, and told me off for looking.
We've not been lucky enough to have a hummingbird nest around our home, but they're definitely close by. By sheer luck, I happened to walk out the backdoor in time to see a baby in the pool!! I fished it out with screen net and placed it in a shoebox with soft cloths and dried it off. It was so scared. So was I, but the little hummer recovered and eventually flew off. It was such a happy moment!!. It came to our feeders and hung out, had some nectar and flew around. 😊 you Carole for everything that you share with us. ❤
Oh, yes! When found in time, the recover. One was trapped in building almost non responsive My husband nurtured him with nectar, and he flew off. Resilient little guys!
Today I discovered the SECOND nest we’ve had and I’m so excited. Watching the process of her creating her nest, protecting her nest. Than watching the babies hatch and then being there when the baby flys off for the first, I’m so excited to see it again.
Thanks for your nicx info-clip, we live out of town in southern New Mexico and cannot see the Hummy nests in our pine trees but we try to feed them plenty using half a dozen of large feeders with a 33 % sugar and 66 % of a soft low mineral well water mix. Even trying to do our best, it looks that we have much less of the little visitors this year than usually and hope very much that their numbers will double again in the future - take care.
You just have to make sure that your well water does not contain iron, and a 3:1 mix will spoil very fast in hot weather. The food needs to be changed every day. I would suggest you use 4:1 which is the recommended amount by Cornell, Audubon and practically everyone else. When it is hot, the hummingbirds need water, too.
It is well into December now. In late November this year I noticed that there were a few hummingbirds around. So I decided to get a feeder to help them out for the Winter. I have a perfect spot out of the Rain just above a Camilia Bush at the edge of my porch that covers the bush. They seem to like the location of the feeder and the bush right below the feeder. It's raining today and now they have a place to rest and feed out the the rain. Now I can't wait for Spring and Summer when the migrating hummingbirds return and make Babies. I make my own Nectar and they seem to like it too. Happy Hummingbird Watching.
I think they do stay around, because we always have juveniles at our feeders after fledging, and it seems like they stay in the area with the adults for some time after fledging.
We pull down spider webs all around our place and put the wads under cover so they don't get wet. they always disappear quickly during bird nesting season. Any other wads of hair or feathers also disappear fast. So fun!
I recently discovered a hummingbird nest on my porch. Ironically it was built on a decorative, metal hummingbird that holds a hummingbird wind chime. I want to document the nest, eggs, babies through the various stage without disturbing them. Any tips you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I'm so glad I saw this video. My wife noticed a small nest in her small, very thin tree that moves very freely in the wind. I've seen a hummingbird several times in our front Porch (which is where I tree is). I'm very worried the mom wo t come around bcuz of us coming in and out of our home. I saw another video of using a net around the nest to protect from other birds but big enough foe the mom to fly through. Is that the best thing I can do for the nest? Do you recommend enclosing it in a man made bird house? I hope you see this and can respond soon. I believe the eggs are 3 days old as I saw momma bird 3 days ago 4/10/24
Great information. I have a green hummingbird that was nesting and enjoying my hummingbird bush in my yard, suddenly a baby popped up with it. We got to watch it flying around and sitting on our home phone line with the little one just before fall set in. They are gone now though =( Do they usually return to the same area when they go back north?
Will hummingbirds use hummingbird houses? There are many available, but I don't know if it's worth it if they won't be attracted to pre-made "tiny homes"! Any suggestions out there?
I’ve been keeping a close eye on the nest in my entryway for the past two weeks. Mama has been so good and the babies were growing. Then I came out to check on them one morning and it was GONE 😢 The WHOLE nest. I found it split in half in the front yard a couple days later. I’m just heart broken 💔 Is there a way I can help protect their nests?? I still see mama around and I’m wondering if she’s stressed or sad.
I am a little confused because, I have only seen one little hummingbird 3 times and that was the week of May 25, 2024 and it is now June 8th. 😢 They have been coming in my backyard for 12 years and I have documented them when they come back and when they leave for the season. I have continued to refill the feeder, but they don’t seem to be coming around. I live in Cincinnati Ohio and I saw 2 hummingbirds at the local Meijer’s store outside feeding from the hanging baskets of flowers in the front of the garden center. Could you tell me what might be going on that they aren’t coming back to my yard and my feeder?
I learned that hummingbirds use spiderwebs to help Holderness together so it’s best to ask Pest Control not to spray your spiderwebs during during nest building
Thank you for this. Does it not make sense to buy those mushroom shaped humming bird house? Will a humming bird use a bird house? Upset me to see that bird grab them. If protected tgey have a chance but not sure if tgey woukd take a man made nest.
where do i put the materials for the hummingbirds nest ? what if it gets wet before they take the materials ? also what time of year do they nest? last question, when they are not nesting do they just huddle in a branch to sleep ?
Jessica, I just hang the material near the feeders. You can actually see a ball filled with raw cotton on my live cam. In my area they are nesting now. I also have a live cam on a mother hummer sitting on two eggs right now! They do not huddle. They are solitary birds.
I found a nest in my back yard. I’m just trying to help it out and see what food I can get. A few feet away was a wasps nests, didn’t know hummingbirds love to eat them. So I want to return the favor and give back

.....So I bought a wooden humming bird nest. It came ready to hang....but I see these nests here built directly onto a branch or wire. Hanging and mounting are two different things...two different life choices. A hung house will ALWAYS be swinging around...a mounted house not so much. You'd think this constant swinging could be irritating to a bird. What should I do....hang it or hard mount it to something?
I'm so sorry they market these things. I'm sorry to have to tell you that hummingbirds want to be out in the open and they won't use the houses. Other smaller birds might, though.
We have a hummingbird that made a nest on our porch. I have seen the mother for a while. How do I locate soneone6 who rescues hummingbird chicks in my area?
Hi! Discovered a nest with the mama sitting in it a few days ago. I set up my feeders and put one quite close to the nest. Was that a bad idea? How long do females leave the nest for? She was there this morning but I haven't seen her in several hours.
so awful the innocent babies murdered by that evil falcon I have had to really make sure my doves are protected I saved one from that evil praire falcon yes I was able to save my precious young dove. Glory to Almighty God

Thank you so much for this information. I like that you are bringing useful info to interested people. God bless you 🙏🏼🕊
Amazing footage! It amazes me how small their nests are and that they're not very well protected against weather or predators.
Great video Carole, my neighbor is going to watch for a nest in her lilac bush next Spring.
Excellent! I would love to have a nest for a Broad-tail.
Oh, my goodness, Carole! How sweet!
Cold winter where I am. This video gives me hope that soon I'll be seen my hummers.
Beautiful video! Thank you so much for taking such good care of our beloved Hummers!

Lovely video, yet bittersweet remember Emerald's nest attack but this is nature in all its glory. Thank you for this guide!
She is building in a much more protected place this time.
I’m looking forward to nest cams this year! I really fell in love with Emerald last year.
This was awesome Carol!
Thanks for making the video. I love these little babies

Little hummingbirds sure are good mothers to their young & fledglings are independent very quickly not like other birds.

Yes they return. They remember the location of every food source.
Mine did two years in a row, they laid their eggs on the same spot, my window shades
@@HummingbirdSpot I am anxiously watching and waiting for them!
I love it.

Thank you for asking before wasting your money. Hummingbirds absolutely will not use them.
I have a question .. can I move my ficus tree about 4 inches to protect her nest a little bit more ?
She built it where she did because she likes it there, but she likely would not abandon the nest if you did move it four inches.
can you provide some information on the camera equipment you use and how it is set up?
I still have yet to see where or what type of Cam you are using! I know nothing about Cams but would love to have a couple just for this 😊 thanks
This was a Reolink security camera.

Hummingbirds will not use those. But wasps will.
I have my first hummingbird babies I seen the momma feeding them this morning
Where do you buy a camera for the nest
Woukd do you feed abandoned hummingbirds? Is a kitten bottle nipple small enough?
No. I would take the bird to a rehabber. Babies eat a slurry of insects mixed with nectar. They need protein.
where do i put the materials for the hummingbirds nest ? what if it gets wet before they take the materials ?

A hummingbird will never use these hung nests. These things are a scam. Hummingbirds will always affix their nests to an open branch.

I'm so sorry they market these things. I'm sorry to have to tell you that hummingbirds want to be out in the open and they won't use the houses. Other smaller birds might, though.
Can I build them a nest? It’s getting cold
will hummingbirds use a small bird house?
Sorry, Andrew, but they will not.

If there is one egg in the nest, she won't sit on it for long periods of time until the second egg is laid.
Good Day, what about Flora babies,? what happend to them??
Hummingbird Spot stopped this live stream. You can follow this nest at the RUclips Channel of Henry Li. The nest is on his property.
