jokes on you, I have no friends into fighting games, I just have to fight people with years of experience
I have friends into fighting games AND with years of experience
Like a fucking *G*
@@ibosu3190 god you're so lucky
@@formidiguy4010 It's not luck at all, they always beat me and I can't do anything. I usually press a button and then watch a 50 hit long cutscene
Also, nobody else wants to learn the game because it's "harder than strive". I'm so lucky, aren't I?
@@ibosu3190 if they don't get on your level to get you into the game, I think it means they are not good friends, it probably means they have too much ego to go easy on you and they don't want to "risk losing against a noob" or some bullshit like that. Feels sad
What you said about "God forbid you bring up Strive around an Xrd player" is also true the other way around lmao.
Xrd players hate Strive because it was such an absurdly massive departure from the typical Guilty Gear formula, and whenever they complain about it they get told to shut up.
And Strive players hate Xrd because they constantly being told about how simple and bad their game is.
And then there's +R players, just sitting in the corner, playing their favourite fighting game and eating glue.
In the Guilty Gear subreddit, there was some guy ranting about how XRD and Strive were Mediocre and that +R was Superior.
It was clearly obvious the guy wanted people to play +R, but did it in aggressive ways resulting in everyone being disinterested to turned off from +R.
Idiot.
@@Berd-Wasted. there will always be idiots like that for any game unfortunately. But in my experience, the +R community is the most friendly and welcoming.
There's just a weird war going on between Strive and Xrd players.
@@Cezkarma I've never seen the Chaos funnily enough.
i have more time in strive overall than any of the rest but in my soul i am the glue-eating +R player you refer to. i am literally just vibing with the funny anime people airdashing and trying to kill each other.
Most +R players hate STRIVE too. they just don't say anything for the most part.
I have like 300+ hours in Strive and it was my first guilty gear game, but was starting to get madder at the game because of high damage, longer load times, the tower system being frustrating (I got to celestial before anyone says skill issue) and smaller move lists feeling limiting. Xrd has been so much fun for me so far, I play Faust and having pogo stick and jackpot items is like crack. I hope Strive incorporates some more further depth in the future because I would love for both of these games to be equally fun (please add bedman back I miss him)
Skill issue.
Bedman! Was it what you expected
Well at least you got your Bedman back... kinda
same
A lot of these things have been fixed now in strive
Xrd, Ac+R and strive really do cater to different individuals. I started with strive 2 months ago, back in the days I was interested in rev 2 when the beta came out but since the moment that everything was incomprensibile to me (coming from the SF series) I never bought the game. Fighter Z introduced me to anime fighters and that eventually lead me to discover Strive, which lead to buying it and Xrd on my PS5 and ac+R on my laptop when everything was in discount. Strive remains my favorite in terms of feels (could give everyone some old moves) and Xrd/+R are tied, but each game is so different from each other that like some dedicated +R player said, they can coexist without sapping from each other because each one inspires different people.
Yeah, and looking at steam charts, +r regularly holds about 800-1000 players, strive regularly holds 2000-3000, they both DO coexist and xrd will be able to fit with the both of them.
@@Cassapphic What's funny is that if you compare it to big multiplayer games 1000/2000 people does not sound like a lot, but because FG are 1v1 and we have to account for timezones (and consoles too), those number allow for a decent population. Of course more population is always good but when crossplay comes those numbers will rise (not on the steam chart but in the total). Rn finding plentiful lobbies in Europe on ps5 is difficult (Strive), maybe ps4 counts as a separate entity so ps4 and ps5 versions of the game do not match toghether. I do say tho, +R deverse a port onto ps5/4 with crossplay, we can only hope Arcsys has the means to do it as a side project. Of course being an old game even my laptop with 128 VR can run it at 60 no drops, and even my old laptop could (and that one had a graphic card that cutted many effects and colors on lol). But people tend to not split games across systems, so it would be more of a convenience matter rather than a lack of hardware, cause any study laptop could run it.
@@Cassapphic +R peaks daily at less than 200...
Strive is overly simplified and really trying hard to sell new west demography, very hard. Xrd and Ac still redpect themself as a game, where learning is absolutely fun and a whole adventure, while performing good inputs. STRIVE have not that, its a smash bros reboot of the saga, for good and bad, even lorewise. The guy s problem is the knowledge check, and the dif of experiemce online... which is his problem mostly, not the game. XRD as a fighting game is vastly superior, Ac is even more wild and technical. A reboot wants to break the mold, which means... it cannot really coexist with respectful and continuous natural progress, it wants to break it.
@@Survivor-A3cry more, strive is fun
Wow! The lessons you learned playing Rev2 are applicable to so many non-gaming areas of my life-specifically, my creative pursuits. Making art & making music can been full of so much more joy & growth when you can easily remove your ego, learn with friends, and remember to have fun. I needed to hear this today. Thanks!
Most people only talk about gameplay and multiplayer. But forget to mention single player content and polish.
Xrd REV 2 has a superb tutorial (general and for every character), missions, an ADDICTIVE mode called MOM, arcade mode with actual cutscenes... and so on.
And yeah, Xrd REV 2 is also still king in gameplay matters (gatling, anyone?)... and art direction... and character roster... The only sad thing is: there's too few people playing ranked matches and you won't find someone your level.
"I will buy this game because strive is too expensive"

@@fefega i can run the game but the price is awfull in my country

Since you only played the game for like 20 hours, I can't exactly blame you for this, but while YRC is strong, using it recklessly is a quick ticket to win a round, and something a lot of intermediate players get stuck on. Since metered options are so strong in Xrd, you can't afford to incur the 6 second long meter penalty where you basically gain no meter at all. A lot of novel uses for YRC like ICPM YRC for Potemkin as a pseudo airdash or the YRCs you mentioned in this video for Sol's BB and Fafnir are simply too wasteful to really be useful. Now since you seem to have played +r and definitely have played Strive I can DEFINITELY fault you for saying Xrd has "oppressive top tiers" when +r Baiken, Test and Zappa, and Strive HC, Nago and Ram exist lol. This might be bias but I think Rev2.1 is overall the most balanced a Guilty Gear game has ever been. Johnny and Elphelt aren't as bad as the memes say, guys.
+R characters are closer tier wise than many know, maybe it's a result of the game never having the competetitive scene Xrd and Strive had at there peak but over the 2 years since it's revival, no one has been too dominate(even the top 3) since every character in that game is insane
@@jonnysac77 Xrd is at the very least the same then. Everyone knows Johnny is top 1 and Elphelt is top two, yet Omito was the only guy who was performing with Johnny like he was top 1, and Hotashi and LostSoul were the only people who were performing like Elphelt was top 2. Character strength matter far less than skill level, and I'm willing to say that the only reason people think Johnny and Elphelt are as good as they are is specifically because of how good these players were, specifically Omito. Hell, Japan doesn't even think Elphelt is that good almost exactly because they simply didn't have to play LS and Hotashi often.
@@NeoBoneGirl ye, Xrd balance is pretty okay from what I played, definitely not as bad as I had been led to believe, at least as a Baiken player
@@jonnysac77 People usually just repeat what they've heard other people say since the game was considered "unplayable" (even if I didn't think the delay was insufferable but that's a Northeast privilege for sure), so they couldn't confirm anything for themselves.
It's especially bad with YRC because it was broken on release so it got a bad reputation, along with the fact that most youtube/twitch streams/general FGC influencer stuff only mentions the good aspects of YRC, and not how you have to be careful and actually play around the meter penalty, which is something a Strive player might not even thing about considering positive bonus, the buffs to FD, and the general lengths of the matches being shorter, so you spend less time wishing you had more meter in the first place.
Honestly, i recommend all of them regardless. +R, Xrd and Strive are all so cool and unique in their own ways while keeping the core of what makes the series amazing that its impossible for me to not adore them all.
Playing fighting games with a group of friends is far and away the best way to have fun playing fighting games. It's not even close. I enjoy online play it's cool and I get satisfaction from it, but it's never like joyful, laugh out loud, fun like playing with a group of pals. Playing in person, on the same TV with a bunch of people hanging out, a few bears or blunts, is the ideal way, but you could get close with a discord voice chat and a single cab in an online lobby.
As a +R player I humbly ask Strive players to petetion the Strive developers to make it so you can air-throw burst in Strive because it's a funny mechanic from older Guilty Gear games that has no practical use when optimizing...but people will still want to go for it because it's funny.
There's plenty of useful burst throw option selects, that's how I throw the majority of my bursts. There's a genuine competitive use case for throwing bursts.
done with that with also adding more moves to all characters (even tho that requires years for Strive since they have to animated personally all 3D models) adding depth to Strive
btw how many +R players still play online?
i understand you played only 20 hours but holy crap you did it maaad dirty

I’m not good at Xrd, like at all, but I freaking love it it got me into the series enough to go back and play the original game. And just Monday this week I bought GGX and XX! Looking forward to trying those out too. And I bought Strive on launch and love it too. They’re both very different games, but both equally great IMO

Your wish for Jam, Slayer or Johnny might just come true because season 3 of strive is coming, hehe. Great video btw, I just bought xrd a few days ago and it's a different type of fun than strive, but I like them both
what's up with all the banger videos that have come out in the past hour tf

Hey Gekko have you ever thought of doing a video on +R? It would really help for some of us who can't run Xrd and Strive as well 😅
I feel you; PC is basically dead.
>20 hours
That's baby numbers for fighting games lol. Hell that's baby numbers for any competitive game.
I understand preferring Strive over Xrd, but man, you kinda did Xrd dirty with some of your statements on the game 😂
That aside, it's cool that you were able to use Xrd to learn more stuff to do in Strive. Playing other fighting games in general really help players view their main game outside of the box. You should continue to play it on the side! (with steam console's rollback trick ofc; screw delay-based lol)
Rank is cool but ultimately not a good indicator. In STRIVE I'm officially Floor 4 but prefer to hang around Floor 7-8 because it's where I have the most fun and opportunities to learn. Having gotten in the FGC during the pandemic, I'd like to get better at +R/Xrd and MBAACC but I'm lacking time - but the advantage of smaller games is that taking part in the community can really enhance your experience. You'll get demolished, get bullied so hard you'll break a controller or three, but you'll also be told why and how to respond accordingly.
It feels to me fighting game's niche status, low number of players or titular difficulty isn't the problem: what players need are proper learning and progression tools. +R has Replay (basically God), we can often rewatch matches and lab all we want, but there's something lacking. Something similar to coaching? Anything to help players get into the proper "learning mindset".
hey, I didn't know you had a youtube channel. cool video!

This first two minutes is EXACTLY how I felt trying to play BBCF and P4AU when they got rollback and I STILL haven’t dragged my way through that feeling. Thank god I know what I’m doing in DBFZ already or when that tire fire gets rollback I’d be completely lost.

Not sure I agree xrd is as impregnable as you say but that’s okay if we had different experiences!
So +R Video when?
You wanna know what Xrd Rev 2 taught me about Strive? It taught me that Strive has inferior, less hype gameplay compared to Xrd. 😂
Strive has knowledge check still the same could be applied now that the game is about 3 or 4 years old now.
I used to think Strive looked better but looking at this game again, I'm starting have second thoughts.
Strive has much higher quality/more impressive animation (for people who are really into animation as a medium it's an absolute master class) and gorgeous design/visuals but Xrd's bombastic, exaggerated posing with vibrant colors and hectic action sells a much more exciting energy. Pros and cons to each, there are things about both I prefer
A really good ranked system and a decent player base would give that experience that you felt with your friends by more or less playing with people still learning. But because fg loose their playerbase so quickly then we are once again to square 1 for people that does not have freinds that also play the game.
To be fair things have improve and the recent fighting games have retained enough people to match you constantly, still things are not ideal. THat is why people is exited for project l, maybe free to play + constant updates can retain the player base
I mean, the social aspect is different. Playing with a group means you pass around the hot seat, take breaks, watch the other people play, shoot the shit about the last match. Laugh at stupid mistakes. It's just a more chill experience, and one that relies on having a group of friends that are also into fighting games and that you hang out with in person. I was lucky to have this when I was younger, and I am sure that is a big part of why I got into fighting games at all.
@@charliericker274 of course is just that the majority of people won't be lucky to have freinds to practice, and even if they do is still desirable to be able to practice by yourself online when you aren't around your freinds. Also the larger the playerbase the more people to increase your chances to make freinds on in person events.
Off line and online are complementary not exclusive and fighting game companies just have started to realize it
in my eyes, if there are just a couple people willing to run a long set at any time, who have a decent connection, It's not a dead game, matchmaking isn't great tho, good match-making would help more than more players
@@jonnysac77 nop not dead games, just not welcoming to newcomers

This is a pretty good case for why fighting games aren’t as mainstream as something like shooters: You can only get the best experience if you make it part of your social life, and the ranks you grind for aren’t meaningful in-game or to other players. Essentially giving nothing for people who just want to grind for a cool number alone from the world. Not a single good solo-mode in sight 💀

Nope, I started to appreciate it basically right after starting with it.
Blazblue still rules, but Guilty Gear Xrd is one of the best fighting games ever made, the gimmicks you complain about happen with streetfighter and tekken as well. Out of those two, mainly tekken.
I think you were a little dishonest saying Xrd players think it's the best fighting game ever, even if you were kind of joking, and giving the reasons why you didn't like it but brushing aside the reasons why many fans love it and highly prefer it over Strive.
I'm just so pissed off about the dumbing down of Strive, and I can't side with people who seemingly love how it plays now.
Someone made a Project Cars analogy online that I really can relate to. Yes I would be pissed, if Project cars 1, 2 are high accuracy simulators, then Project cars 3 comes out of the blue and plays like Mario Kart, that is exactly what it feels like to me. It's not Guilty Gear to 'me' anymore.
People still play this online?
Xrd is active online and has multiple tournaments firing each week, yes.
What did Xrd teach you about Strive mate.
Your section about Yrc is honestly just wrong. Yrc is not used to "cover mistakes" it's used to primarily start pressure or slow down the game to then start pressure. Yrc is not a cover my ass RC, it never has been. This is clearly because you are new to the game but nah that section is just wrong, truly.
Can you use it to cover your mistakes? Yes? Then he isn't wrong, end of story. He never said it was ONLY used to cover your mistakes...

I obviously don't mind what people prefer but I honest to God can't understand how can someone play xrd and plus R and prefer strive, I mean it, I don't get it
A matter of skill issue.
@@canete571 what do you mean?
Tbh, it's their opinion, and what they enjoy in a fighting game. For some people as long as they are having fun in Strive and can find people to play, it is good enough for them
My actual issue is that some of their arguments and complaints of xrd feel disingenuous and exaggerated (e.g how bad or annoying yrc, danger time or air teching are).
They also don't really criticise Strive gameplay honestly. Seriously how is yrc, damgee time and air teaching annoying but your fine with losing 60 to 70 percent of your life in one combo, a lack of defense options, homogenous character playstyles, 15 seconds rounds, doing the same two combo's repeatedly, the wall break system, and lack of air combos.
Notice this is only the gameplay section of Strive I am criticizing, and not it having a worse Character select screen and in game ui than xrd, having boring intros when compared to xrd, have no outros where xrd had it, having less single player content than xrd, having a worse lobby system than xrd, having a worse tutorial than xrd, having very few colour selection and not being able to buy character colors with fight money like xrd, not being able to buy specific character announcer voicelines or music with fight money like in xrd, having a worse arcade mode than xrd and so on.
@@rachetmarvel931 I understand and respect that some people enjoy strive I just don't understand what do they enjoy when is such a different game than previous ones and new players I can see it but how can you ever go from playing lots of xrd to strive is what I wonder, I couldn't that's for sure
People are different
played strive as my first GG game, then come to xrd and +R
And after that I never touch Strive again because damn the character got water'ed down so bad it not even half of what the used to be
Xrd isn't even that old, but it has so much annoying "old game shit" that feels horrible to put up with. Invisible stun, mash to tech, mash out of stagger, 1f proximity throw, a fuckton of character/spacing-specific adjustments you gotta do in combos/setups, very aggressive Guts scaling, different Dead Angles, proximity normals (this one is still in Strive, and it's even worse there). Even the older BlazBlue and P4A games feel more modern and more inviting in many ways.
Still, I'm happy I got to play Venom, Raven, Dizzy and Xrd Ky again for a few days. The characters are SO FUN, even if the systems around them feel like shit compared to other modern games of its time. Just because of that I still like Xrd SLIGHTLY more than Strive, although Testament has been very close to tipping the scales for me. If I get Venom/Dizzy in Strive, I'm probably done with Xrd.
Dizzy and Venom are not going to play the same way in Strive even if they comeback, so don't get your hopes up.
I think you are also confusing old fighting game shit, with mechanics and gameplay that makes Guilty Gear play like Guilty Gear.
What's wrong with proximity normals?
@@Jabroni_14 They can be very unreliable in fast games/characters, so you can get a Far normal at very close range instead of the Close normal sometimes, depending on how you and your opponent are moving relative to each other. Can happen more often with Millia, Chipp, Ram and other characters with fast runs.
It's way less of an issue in Xrd/+R because it doesn't happen as often (bigger activation range for cS) and even then you can adjust because fS gatlings are not as restricted in those games.
In Strive it happens way more often AND it's much worse because cS has the best frame data and gatling options in the game while fS has the worst, so you can lose all your pressure because the opponent moved slightly forwards/backwards during/before the startup.
@@rachetmarvel931 We already have Strive Testament that plays a lot like a defensive version of Xrd Venom, so of course he could play almost the same in Strive. Same for Dizzy, considering Jack-O's hit and run into pressure playstyle already exists in Strive.
As for the "old game shit", most of the things I mentioned were not Guilty Gear exclusive. Xrd just decided to keep a lot of things that other franchises had already left behind in the mid-late 2000s for making the game feel inconsistent/unintuitive.
Very old Guilty Gear is old, so of course it plays like an old game. Xrd didn't have to, but it does.
@@eduardoserpa1682 thanks for the answer it was pretty educational. I see your points but I will argue against the idea that proximity normals are bad mechanic even in fast games. I personally liked measuring the distance between my characters far slash and close slash and asjusting to it in the middle of a match. the opponent moving away or closer changing the move also feels really fun to me
20 hours in xrd and you have an opinion like this is crazy. you haven't even scratched half the surface of the competitive scene. genuinely i like your content for the most part but, this review is misplaced in my opinion.
When my friend got into XRD, I had 100 hours in the game, but I really only started improving once he started. That was an awesome experience
I put about 30-40 hours into Xrd after getting into Strive first. And man I just could not get into it. I just wasn't having as much fun as I was in Strive. The input buffer being 3 frames instead of 4 made the game feel a little to speedy. The execution doesn't feels as good as Strive.
strive is a robert downey jr meme
xrd is straight up a vibe check...
Cool but +r better+ ratio
Lol the classic "i lose to bullshit, but win cuz of my FUNDAMENTALS" strive players are cancer.
Strive looks so much better than Xrd, I couldn't go back
it taught me that Strive is not that good...
Joe at Steel City Clash is/was one of the best Xrd Fausts in the UK, turn up if you want Xrd sets, lad
Bro you only played 20 hours and made a video. Really?
Most people do not lab combos and pressure in XRD. You just do what makes sense to you. That's how XRD works and that's how XXAC+R works. Learn the game damn it.
"I played a good amount of the game. Clocking about 20 hours-" - You.
This is what I got told after saying to STRIVE players that I played the game for that long.
"You didn't give the game a fair chance!"
I feel like this is a bit of bullcrap. Everything I learned in XRD, I abandoned besides the most basic aspects of fighting games. I legit abandoned all my mindset and would only improve in STRIVE for doing so. Every time I thought "Play the game like Guilty gear", I'd lose. I kept on constantly getting rid of every moment of me trying to play the game like Guilty Gear. I legitimately decided "No, don't do that. Don't do that. Don't do that. Definitely don't do that... Just... play neutral... play straightforward... Dont' take risks... Don't do that..." and that was the game... Play straightforward and pray you don't lose half your health in one combo.
The reality is, Guilty Gear gameplay is dead. And it was sacrificed for some mediocre, piece of shit, scumfuck game that provides nothing special compared to a lot of other fighting games that came out within the past 2 decades.
skill issue + just play xrd or ac then?
Xrd is for women, Strive is for children and the elderly. Real men play XX.
XRD in 2023 dead game
I fought a lot of people in rank for Xrd.
Plus R is better. It has ABA
