I equate the acting in this movie to watching a favorite musician play. I watch it over and over to watch the talent and layers of the performance in this movie, by everyone.
Moral of the story. When you drop dead. Try to do it in the summertime instead of becoming a human popsickle and an albatross around the neck of people you love.
One of the things I didn't understand too much about this movie is why Lee had such disdain for his sister-in-law, and why he was so judgmental toward her. He was saying all the shit about her at the hospital when she got angry, "Fuck her..." he said when she was angry and left, the whole time at the hospital he seemed to act condescending toward her. Whenever the boy Patrick brings her up, Lee seems to express disapproval about him having anything to do with her. When she calls, he hangs up the phone on her. There are just a number of these things throughout the movie as it pertained to Lee and his sister-in-law (Joe Chandler's ex-wife). Not saying that Lee waa necessarily wrong about some of her behavior, such as being a drunk perhaps and having psychotic episodes of some sort, but it always made me wonder why Lee didn't look at himself a little more when casting his judgments on her. I mean, Lee was drunk when he forgot to put a screen over the fireplace which killed all of his children. He then put a gun to his head and tried to odd himself, which would have most definitely landed him in the mental hospital himself (at least for some time). I just don't get where Lee really earned the right to judge his sister-in-law so harshly considering his stupidity throughout the movie himself.
I think that information has been hidden for us, the viewers on how her SIL would've been in the bigger picture. We just got a few scene on her to depict her personality, but who knows how things really happened when she ran away from her family. Joe had disdain for her, and raised his kid himself, so that feeling naturally was same for Lee being his brother. Patrick of course doesn't understand it being a teenager, being a small child when his mom left him. I believe it was just Lee being protective with that woman having no say in anything related to his nephew especially after she abandoned them.
One of the best in decades.
A real masterpiece.
This movie really was just so good in terms of the interactions and acting.

"Uncle Lee are you fundamentally unsound?!".

This movie actually has a lot of dialogues which make you laugh.... but then feel bad about it 🍿
2:37 it's a film director. Maybe it's one funny part in this entire masterpiece

Well maybe projection. He didnt like because he himself was almost the same.

The fantasy of film art but ... without the political correctness and stereotypes it seeks, it has not won an Oscar.
It has won 2 Oscars?
