Mothers' Day, as celebrated in North America, is a recent idea. It's about 110 yrs old and was begun by two people, one of whom was a shopkeeper who wanted to boost sales during a quiet time of year. In the UK, Mothering Sunday or Mothers's Day is always three weeks before Easter. It was originally a day workers had off so they could go home with gifts for their mothers provided by their employers, and then attend their mother church, where they'd been baptised. It dates back over 700 years.
All Moms Matter!
As a single morher, my mama gave me and my siblings her unselfish loved. Her love truly inspired all of us to love other people just as unselfishly. Our mama was always welcomed in our homes, to visit or to live. It was her choice. My son treats me with the same amazing love and consideration. I am more than welcome to visit him and stay in his home anytime. I Praise Almighty God for His Blessings given to me my siblings through the love and devotion of our Dear Beloved mama. I Praise Almighty God that my Son tells me that out of all the mama's in the world, Almighty God Blessed him with me. WOW!! Now that is the Ultimate successful career! Thank you Jrsus. Amen!

My favorite Mother’s Day was when my kids were 5, 6, and 7. My husband helped them make me breakfast, then he helped them clean the house, and then they went away. It was glorious. Now, they are 21, 22, and 23 and I got brunch😊

Excellent conversation! When I had 3 children under 5 years old I asked for a 2 hour nap for any reason we were exchanging gifts! Birthdays, Christmas, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day…always just wanted a nap. I was fortunate to have a good husband who listened when I asked for help, but I never wanted to ask. I had the crazy idea that asking for help meant I wasn’t a good enough mother or wife to handle my job and that it would be unfair for him to have worked all day and come home to chores as well. Sheer lunacy! It was never something my husband expected of me, I put that chain around my neck myself!! Ask for help! You’ll be a better mother if you do! The struggle is real! Your kids don’t need Martha Stewart to be their mom. They just need you, the one who loves them and understands that people have bad days and yucky feelings sometimes. Happy Mother’s Day!🌹🌸💐🌺🌷🌻🥀🌼💐🥀🌹

These new generations🙄. Being a mother is a gift. Stop complaining. You are lucky to have children and not living in a war torn country. Today in the U.S. is not at all like it used to be. I know. It used to be worse in the 1900s. Many companies offer child care and you have tax deductions, and even baby and child supplies that were never available before. But, I do feel sad for those who are single and trying to raise a child on their own. However, there are many resources out there if you do have children and you have a limited income. (If you don't and you are sick, good luck, you don't). You just have to know where to look and what government agency offers help. If you are married, at least you have a possibility that your partner helps and you are not doing it by yourself. 😮 Nancy, R.N.

The title of this video does not match the discussion, but you make some really good points about the challenges women face with current policies. It's so important to recognize these disadvantages and strive for policies that truly support women.

We are speaking about what "mothers" day is in the life of everyday American-USA culture, dude. For example, how may children and young people are going to be killed today by gunfire where every day is an Amendment #1 and #2 a "Freedom of Speech" gun glorifying day? How many mothers will this particular day a be "nice day." How about the millions of homeless living in streets, alleys, culvert pipes and under the bridges?
The USA is not a Democracy, dude, like other countries are. Violence, hatred, racism, and acts of war is a common day here and "mother's day" is NO different.
But than again, living in an "Authoritarian Constitutional Republic (ACR-USA)" a Democracy it is NOT, because of the hypocrisy that surrounds "a nice day."

So, the two others will bring flowers to me on mothers day, then I may not even hear from them for month or more.......They have their own families, and they work, work, work....I miss them, we were co close.🥲 Just saying
I am 81, is that elderly? I have two daughters but only one cares whether I live or die. I thank God for that daughter she makes my life worth living. The other one, my oldest is angry and has turned my older grandsons against me, I have two great granddaughters but have only seen one, once. These are grandsons I watched as babies and loved. We can only be thankful for what we Do have and try not to grieve for what we don't.
People make a big deal out of one day. Heck are you not a mother after this day they give you to honor mom honor ahould come everyday not just the 12th of May

TO CHILDFREE WOMEN over 18 years old . I see u and celebrate U. Having a baby or adopting a kid doesn’t make you a superior woman than childfree woman.. We need to rename this day to Care woman Day wive day and girlfriend day. We should give thanks to all women who take care of their family because childfree women and childless women take care of their husbands, boys friend, parents, grandparents and or pet parents to dogs or cat. That is an emotional and physical thing to do.

@@Ron-Ayres There is actually one of those already, the US just doesn't really celebrate it. International Women's Day is March 8, and is actually a fairly big deal in Europe, at least. You're absolutely right that it should be a bigger deal in the US, or even a deal at all, but I don't necessarily agree that it should be wrapped into Mother's Day, either. Why can't we have both?

If you haven't, don't let all these recent abortion stories in the news scare you into thinking every pregnancy is "risking your life." (I am pro-choice, by the way.) Being pregnant and giving birth is the most natural thing in the world, our bodies were designed for it. Most recent U.S reporting is that 32.9 maternal deaths occur per 100,000 births annually. That is .033% of pregnancies resulting in life-threatening complications leading to death. (For context, that's roughly 1/30th of 1%. A full 1% would be 1000 deaths per 100,000.) Bottom line, 99.967% of U.S. births do not result in death of the mother. But if a woman feels motherhood is too much of a sacrifice for her, for whatever reason, then her choice is simple--she shouldn't become a mother.
What about the childfree women who are also single, and don't have any pets?
My father is deceased, and I don't look after my mother because I can't stand her.
I only look after myself. I have a job that I like, but I couldn't call that a "sacrifice."

Despite the lip service given on occasions like Mother's Day, our society doesn't value mothers or women because we don't value children. Thanks to Dobbs, we have state courts ruling that fertilized eggs are fully human, but we condemn the children that are actually born to lives of poverty and ignorance. We treat them as disposable and if, by chance, they should survive long enough, we dispose of them in military ventures around the globe.
I think we could address a majority of ills within our society if we could change our focus from immediate personal profit and gratification to investing in the well-being of future generations. We don't own anything: we hold it in trust for those who come after us. In that society, the role of mothers would be valued every day, not just the second Sunday in May.

Bro would these people just shut up?! They’re mad because they *need* to have a reason to be mad. Rather than actually be thankful for their mothers. And having one day a year to stop and thank your mother is better than saying "oh we can appreciate mom’s every day". That’s true, but most people today will forget about their mothers and realizing this, they will make time (or they should) to see their mothers and spend the day with them.

I do believe mothers are special but this is just whining. We Anericans are spoiled. We have more choices and privileges than most countries but we still complain. Moms deserve support, so does everyone else.
I am a single mom of two disabled kids. I am a gig worker because no one will hire me during school hours and every daycare I've contacted has turned me down because of my kids' disabilities. I can't even find the hoops to jump through to get home support or therapy, and every summer is financially desperate because I have no one to watch my kids so I can at least gig, and we have to survive off of child support alone. My last resort has finally come and I'm becoming a surrogate to help fund getting myself and my kids out of the US. There's nothing for us here. A capitalist society will never find worth in me or my kids, and I am punished for my motherhood.
Other countries dont have these issues...poorer, smaller, weaker countries have more time and money for women, children and the average person vs the super rich. We dont even tax our billionaires lol if we taxed just a few of our super rich the same as you and me...we could pay for all the homeless, all the struggling and even our veterans. That is how much money trump denied america when he gave trillion dollar breaks. Biden has said he will not renew those breaks next year while trump says he will increase them lol BUT ITS TOO LITTLE TOO LATE for too many....
Thank you for being a good mum. I am disabled but because of a good mum I have been able to become a productive independent citizen who can actually help others despite being one of the most vulnerable.

What about the mothers that don’t want any more children? What about the mothers that are left to age alone?
I have to admit that we are all so occupied with paying rent, etc. that we just want to be left to whatever small enjoyments we can have. With our 'women' or without. Some of each. I know the wives want to remember what it was like to be single and free now and then. They don't get enough appreciation for their existence, and men don't get enough for theirs, but we travel together in life and it can be a pretty good arrangement.
It seems that we accept few things going our way in the 'big world' and we overlook the need to change it. It comes down to small traditional things we do, hoping to make life bearable. Then one day I said OMG! How did we let ourselves become so complacent about the big picture? You are right. You don't get enough help from the other half of the population.
The proof? My confession as a 'typical' man, married for decades to someone I care about. We didn't have any money to spare, but still I wanted to find 'something' to wrap. One Christmas Eve I found myself in the 'Pots and Pans aisle' one hour before Wal-Mart closed, desperately trying to figure out what kind of cookware she might like for Christmas! Now that's pretty bad. AND I wasn't the only guy there! That's when I realized I needed to recognize what is important in our lives -- The critical needs of both of us and 'grown up' national priorities. I think that is when I crossed the line and became the 'man' she needs. I wanted to tell America that some DO care and you have my vote.
This is why traditional wives are better, they appreciate the little things
