Tom: So he [Robert Monroe] had just built a lab to study consciousness because this happened to him. He knew it was real because he had worked with it.
He had experimented with it, he had tested it and he was able to convince himself it was real because he could interact with real things and make a difference and get information that he could check ; so, personally to him, there was no question it was real, but he knew it was a hard sell for anybody else to believe. So he wanted to do this lab so that he could understand it and turn it into science.
That was his dream. Make this so that it's not, what they call it now, "woo woo", it wasn't a woo woo science but it was real science, this is what he wanted.
So I just happened to be there and be a young scientist and another fellow that I worked with, he was an electrical engineer, we volunteered that we would staff his lab and we would build an equipment for measuring body functions and GSR, EEG, that kind of stuff, if he would teach us what he knew about going out of body. That was our plan. And Dennis and I, Dennis was the guy's name, he and I talked.
And neither one of us was too sure that this was going to be a real thing. So we both kind of talked and said, well, if this turns out to be just foolishness then we can always leave. We're not stuck here. So we said "sure, we'll do it."
And that started : the two of us going out to meet with Bob Monroe and we would spend a couple of hours building equipment doing other things and experiments and then, at the end, after we were done, he'd come up and we'd spend another hour or so with him teaching us how to experience this larger consciousness system.
Y: So he was actually able to teach you that?
Tom: Yes! he was able to teach us this, and within a year or a year and a half, Dennis and I were accumulating evidence just as Bob had, that this was real and he taught us how to go "out of body". At least that's the term I had, "out of body" is just a metaphor.
But he taught us to do that at will, when we wanted to. And we did of course first needed to do things that we could check, because if you just go out and do something totally outside of this reality, then there's no way to tell whether that was real or is that your imagination.
So it was without equipment? It was just just a navigation from you?
Yes basically we were in booths that were isolated. They were surrounded by sheet metal that was grounded so there was no electric fields. They were soundproofed. There were three booths in a row and I was in first one and Dennis was in the last one, so with his empty booth between us.
There was a microphone hanging from the ceiling just inches away from our lips. And we had GSR which is Galvanic Skin Response on our fingers... and that was about all it was in the lab at that time.
So we would each go in our chamber that was, like I said, soundproof. We could not hear each other and we could talk over the microphone and Bob was in the control room and he could hear both of us. And then he would give us instructions how to relax, what to do. He taught us to do what he had done, I guess, to end up going out of body.

I’m amazed at the detail on my virtual realty. It’s been quite an enjoyable reality.
When I was 14 (I am 41 now), my mom took us (me and my sister) to a Silva method course. It was two full weekends and as a child/teen, it’s much easier to absorb these concepts and practice them, because kids live in that reality until parents teach them otherwise.
Even when I was about 7 y.o., I was thinking about the universe, sometimes the thoughts brought be somehow out of the moment in the time, so I always knew everything is different than what we are being taught.
Then, the course helped me to revive my beliefs about the world and studying these things for years now has brought me to Lipton, Braden, Dispenza and it has changed my life.
It’s quite a tragedy, in what kind of ignorance the “civilized” part of the humankind lives in.

@@ob2249 virtual reality is just an expression, it doesn't matter how we call it, what matters is if the model it applies to is can be in fact applied to reality; today it can be verified with individual practice, also with techniques in the Monroe Institute, which Tom described very clearly I might add. Also, this model is ancient, and the fact that it was not called "virtual reality" doesn't mean the same content wasn't discovered long ago.

Best one yet. In its brevity. I read the trilogy four times to get it all. The videos are not a great way to learn his research. They are all over the place and people ask tons of questions that they would know the answers to had they read the books. You will only ever get bits and pieces until you read the trilogy but this is a good as it gets to this point. I am taking his consciousness course that got released today. Super excited to have at it.

It's totally fascinating, but there is no need for some of the music in the background, it only distracts and makes it more dramatic but Tom's theory is dramatic enough, thanks for the video, it is a fantastic interview!

For those who like what this individual says then one should put aside its thinking its knowledge of what one knows because if you mix what you know, and not wrong, and you mix what you know with this knowledge then this knowledge will be infected and one may loose the message or contaminate the message and it is as we say not wrong. Generally when most of us listen we listen with what we know instead of what we don't know and there mix the two and it then may become a judgement. To understand these type of scientist we must then put our understanding of what know aside, all of our knowing knowledge, if we can to really understand what he is saying. Brilliant video.

I spent a week at the Monroe Institute. During the program it was obvious that my group was experiencing common, alternative interactions in the mediations we were doing. We would see and talk to each other and go places, all beyond any logical explanation.

This is amazing. A logical explanation of my lifelong confusion and purpose. Thank you. Observation: The first universal major change needs to be feeding the avatar the nutrition/fuel it requires not a facsimile composed of system-inappropriate components. That is to say, reduce sugar and eat naturally-occurring elements. Seriously, it is Fundamental. Better decision-making results from improved self-care.

I am watching this and thinking about what he is saying .
I would like to add a few ideas to this .
1 As people have looked at the workings of machines it has altered the way that mechanical engineering has been understood .
2 As virtual reality has been developed and computing power has increased and programming has developed more complexity is being generated .
3 The example from World of Warcraft with building the stairs is a solution to a pre existing problem in the game and can be thought of as solving an equation in order to exit the building which also exists within the game , but this problem was programmed by people and so still exists in this reality .
4) I was a bit concerned when he put forward his experience of "Out of body " travelling with his friend and wonder if this would stand up to the scrutiny of someone like James Randi .
5) I was also concerned with how he accepted the reality of the experience and thought when this happened that he stopped being a critical thinker .
6) I believe that the scientific knowledge probably came from his own studies and nothing external .
7) I think that to say we are acting from some greater reality adds a complexity to an already complex problem of the nature of reality .
My conclusion is that as more work is done on AI , virtual realities and understanding how computer programming is done that these ideas will become perhaps interesting historically but in reality seen to be misguided .
Interesting, minute 24:20 so we have learned everything backwards? When I woke this morning( the semi wake state) the thought/message in my thought was, we are inside out. Like the flesh is what we see, the spirit is within, yet should it be seeing the spirit with the flesh secondary? If you experience “tinnitus” in NOT THE EARS but what I can only describe as the minds ear like the minds eye,if that makes sense but those of you whom have it know what I’m talking about.
It isn’t like the ringing in the ear from noise/sound damage but exists in the brain and switches tones from the ringing to crickets ALOT of Crickets or cicada or locusts or something, like a whole woods full of them.
I have this it’s gotten louder over the last 8 months or so. What is the meaning of it? 💜
Tinnitus happens exactly in the ear, it's basically blood vessels noise not getting filtered out. All people have tinnitus to a different extent, some can hear it only in silence, while others are bothered by it 24/7. What you describe, however, is just hallucinations, you need to do a MRI of your brain and seek help. I hope you did, it's 2 years since you left this comment, after all.

To live is to consume, there is no love in the requirement to consume things to live.

Written instructions in the book journeys out of the body by Robert Monroe. You have to practise meditation to navigate the out of body experience.
Right before you dose off tell yourself where you want to travel I did it so fast and I never meditation.anf you can't be in fear.
