try actually "BENDING" the trailing edges of the metal one downward like flaps. basically you need to either spin it 100x faster or you need to increase its "bite" on the air to overcome its inertia. make Colin Furize it? attach it to a motor get it spinning at some insane speed (balance it first) and then catapault it into the air and release ?
I was actually going to say that it probably doesn't work because the ratio of structural material density to enviromental material density wasn't the same and that they might have better luck throwing it under-water.
I like how they went to a shooting range to throw boomerangs. Random as it gets. For those of you wondering how I know, those yellow and red things on the ground are spent shotgun shells.
The metal on the metal boomerang needs to be more spread out, like a metal-bladed fan. It was too heavy for curving, spreading out the metal will work.
@@FlyingSagittarius that aspect is common knowledge if you attach a rock to a plastic bag as a parachute and it works. Now if you attach something havier wouldn't you make the parachute bigger? Its the same thing if you use metal which is heavier than wood and you know the surface lenght of the boomerang causes it to fly would you increase the suface lenght. They know how the boomerang works but they dont have the common sense to see the problem im 15 and i could figure this out. I bet they didn't even use a light weight metal like aliminum or something
9:42 thats so cool! It’s spin rate matched the frame rate of the camera so that it looks like the boomerang is moving across the screen without spinning.
Hey! I have a video suggestion. I'd love to see Nate and Calli see everything they can do with mood rings. I would love to know what they're made of, if extreme heat (blowtorch or foundry) or extreme cold (dry ice or liquid nitrogen) would desensitize/break the color changing aspect of the mood ring. I'd also like to see if they could grind it up into a color changing powder
Guys, I would HIGHLY recommend finding the center AFTER you do your sanding. It will really help with the balance and flight. Taking any material off with a sander changes it's balance slightly.
Bro I wonder what this convo was like tho...”Hey! I have a great idea! What if, get this, we take two giant metal pieces put them together sharpen it a bit and it would be like a flying blender!” “OMG LETS DO IT!!!”
I am supposed to be watching videos to prepare myself when I perform a necropsy on one of my hens in about 72hours or so.... I don't think this is the right video... Oh well.
szymon Niedzwiecki Now if you would have used this comment on one of their newer videos *”When you have nothing else to do in your life but boil mayonnaise”* I would’ve gotten it.
Portable band saw TKOR. Ya'll love your Dewalt stuff. They make two different sizes and if you ever use one once you will never want to be without it again. My two cents is to get the larger of the two.
For metal you also have to account for the weight to surface area ratio. The reason the wooden ones fly like they are supposed to is because there’s enough force from the air on the surface area to support the weight of the boomerang for a certain period of flight. You can go thinner and thinner until eventually your metal boomerang weighs the same as your wooden one and still has the same surface area on the sides, or you can make your wings wider to provide more surface area.
On the aluminum boomerang, maybe just putting a twist in the arms would be sufficient. Clamp the center and apply a twist at the end of each arm. Saves metal shaving and shaping.
Use a lawn mower balancer to make sure that all four arms are balanced by weight. From the center point that should make it Fly less wobbly in the beginning and may help it.
You guys should try finding the center by balancing the sticks on a nail then drill a small hole through that point, put a nail through both sticks and glue it there. Should also try using 3 sticks to see if the affect is more pronounced.
Well now you're kinda required to make shurikens or throwing knives, especially with Cali's enthusiasm for the metal one lol, you could make some dull practice ones and some real ones.
I have the book in my amazon cart, ready to order. As for the aluminum boomerang, I think the rivets messed with it’s flight pattern. There may be an adhesive you can find, or try welding them and grinding down the edges of the welds until it’s sleek.
You need more lift for a highly loaded airfoil. If you added some twist to the camber and made the chord wider you'd have a chance. Imagine a steel model plane trying to fly on those small wings with that wing loading.
Try using soda cans and rivets for upsized metal boomerang. Curvatures could probably be obtained by bending flat or maybe like a hollow tube like wing, like semi-squishing a straw for visual example.
I think the reason why the foam worked so well compared to the metal is because there's not enough arm strength to give the metal boomerang enough spin. You would have to build some kind of mechanical launcher to get the metal one to fly. As long as you have enough RPMs compared to weight, it will fly.
