Wouldn't this be considered another installment of "Drums not animated correctly?"
I just broke 2 of my fingers trying to do the tradition grip.
This is like watching my high-school band director explain how to hold a stick. He had NO idea. Tried to get us to hold the stick AT the balance point because "that's how my baton works."
I expressed that he was incorrect and he took exception to this, one word led to another and he threw me out of the class.
This same director insisted he be called a Doctor even though he never completed his doctorate.
I eventually told him to sit on a cactus and revolve and went and played with a nearby college band instead.
I wasn't the only one who did this.
I totally forgot I commented that LOL. Yeah that was sarcastic
2:17 -- interestingly enough, in the pipe band world, using the non-dominant hand for the "traditional" portion of the grip regardless of being right or left-handed is substantially more common (I don't play in a Scottish pipe band, but my friend and a former DL instructor both do :P)
I can’t imagine someone playing traditional with their right hand it just seems wrong to me
@@danielruston5604 I know, right!? Flo Mounier uses traditional on both hands as a warm-up exercise IIRC, and I've adopted it a little here and there for myself, but beyond that, it doesn't seem right at first glance haha.
@@danielruston5604 Sometimes it feels better(Physical Disability Here)
@@danielruston5604 I mean some people switch around the whole d'set
@@danielruston5604 this is what kept me from marching snare in college and going to the pit instead. I can only do traditional grip with my right hand. I don’t know why, but I just cannot do traditional grip with my left hand. That was in 2002. 21+ years later, I still can’t do it.
Wow! 11 hours late! The Sacramento Mandarins moved from Spring Training to their first location in So-Cal! I was too busy cleaning Mushu so they could head south. I am finally home for a few weeks! Time to watch this video!
Video 1 of asking to EMC to keep making percussion content
"Thank you! This really helped!" Evan Gorczyk
Video number 2 of me asking Eric to play his viewers field shows, rate them, then make them harder and more fun to play
dude almost got canceled in the first 30 seconds
Another style of German grip there 😂
For that first thing, the “changing grip” is just the hand turning to the side like how it would normally be
wait.. you have signature drum sticks?
Dude I am cracking tf up right now
The worst part of those videos for me was the background music 😂
I agree, it is terrible and gets annoying over time.
I actually did not know that whole arm vs wrist thing about the traditional grip.
3:40 I’m getting carpal tunnel just watching that
You should review Alex’s Drum Time and Alex’s drum time too
I started out learning the matched grip, because I went with concert percussion at first. Only years later when I started marching I had to use traditional grip and my left hand has limited stick height without moving the elbow in too far. I can get to about 45° angle up with the left stick. Is there anything I could do to improve that?
Honestly my best thing could be have a drumline coach correct your grip and help you position your fingers
And then play like that and get used to the feeling
Because when I was working on traditional grip it was super awkward when I got it corrected
Eventually I got used to it and yeah
If you can’t find a drumline coach, ask your band director if you don’t have a band director well then
Get a marching snare drummer friend
Or or or, post a video of you on the r/Drumline subreddit and they’ll make comments that could help you
@@dannyledrums4116 Don't get me wrong, I have been playing traditional grip for about 12 years already. I started taking snare drum lessons playing matched grip in 2001.
@@marktegrotenhuis ohh I thought this was like a recent thing
Well honestly as long as your traditional grip is in a turning door knob motion I think you’re fine
For example my hand looks raised too high but I think it just looks better
I’m used to playing on a snare tilt
@@dannyledrums4116 I have only marched snares carried on a sling. Never on a carrier frame/harness, so my drum is always at an angle and thus the left hand is automatically positioned higher than the right hand.
Those were some interesting video recommendations it had for you.
I take drum lessons at a local music store
wow this is a great how to break your middle finger tutorial.
Good morning and this is video number 57 of asking for marchable bass drums set up in a tenor formation. I.e. benor drums
Ps: custom backbar may be needed
41st, please make an extreme drum set.
Perfect timing for my insomnia 😂
they probably tell you to tune your drums by tuning both heads as high as possible
4:00 Ayyy I have those sticks!
what sitcks are those? I tried to look them up but couldn't find any.
@@xxnvytechxx6417 literally Vic Firth MS2s but they are custom branded and signed by Eric! I got my hands on a pair thanks to teamwork by Eric and Loopy Grandma!
So
I was at Sam ash for my bday
And I ran into your drum kit
Video 8 of asking EMC to make a South Park Elementary School drumline.
Video 1 of me supporting this
Yes
Yes
he did it now
@@gabrielleortiz7756 I know. I saw the video.
Video 23 of asking for the full Freebird Guitar Solo on the Megatenors
i don't know what i saw, but i saw of holding that would lead to zero strike on the drum😬
The person asking for "how to gain weight" video obviously wanted to lose weight.
Drum go boom
emc video Les go
My school teaches traditional grip=lesser than matched and not worth learning it so i’m the only one in my district who knows it because my drumline instructor was in drum corps and he taught me it along with middle finger isn’t like the pointer but it’s slightly over the stick but pointer thumb and ring/pinky r same as yours
Also that damn thumb, when i teach i will try my best to use vic firth to show my students THUMB ON FLAG
Step one put stick in your hand.
Step two break fingers so they are more flexible
Step three drum
I don't get the finger positioning on the left hand for 'traditional grip'. Wrapping the index finger around the stick like a 'hook'? Also the fingers on the right hand wrapped around the stick like a baseball bat? Goes directly opposite the way I was taught and how I've played with traditional grip for years. The key is to maintain fluidity yet firm control choking the stick with wrapped fingers is not the way to do it.
the one thing I don't like about this is that he does not have the thumb on the stick
always so surprised that any of this means anything at all to wether or not a drum is hit "correctly", if youre not sat on a horse or parading with drum on a side strap or harness thing, i change grip maybe if for reach or velocity or if a ride pattern is hard one way, flip it (traditional right/left/either hand sometimes, or have shaker in hand as well as a stick, play a bodhran with a tipper which seems freak everyone out, and learnt with hands fingers first so technique of holding never seemed relevant to what sounds were possible
Good morning!
I know a kid who would play traditional grip backwards
Same for me and he doesn’t even hold it right
good morninh
Looks like it was drawn in MSPaint
I wonder if the people who watched these videos still do it like this
I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out the French grip the way THEY showed it and it's....
It's disgusting
but the German grip I just gave up
I think you need a hammer to get all those finger positions correct!!!
I'm gonna get marked as spam if I keep requesting Jig 2 on Aerodrums.
BRUH
Good morning
Yeah, real physics would make things nice. I do appreciate them trying but is this doing more harm than good?
Pretty early huh
Ha

Video 1 of asking EMC to make tenor drums out of bass drums
Didn’t you make another video on how youtubers shouldn’t use “worst” in the title 😂 jk
