- HorizonXI is a new vision for FFXI at 75 cap, something that many of us have wanted for the past 10+ years. HorizonXI launched as a progression server starting at the Chains of Promathia expansion.
The server strives to bring players all the content available in the current era, but with some custom balancing changes, new XP camps and more.
HorizonXI preserves what made 75 cap FFXI so special while giving Adventurers new things to explore, and new memories to create.
For me, Final Fantasy XI was my first really big online gaming addiction and it holds some very special memories for me. After playing for 10+ years, I slowly stopped playing, and started playing FFXIV. I still look back on those FFXI days, and especially at the level 75 Era cap, so today, I wanted to try out HorizonXI and see what this feels like, and if it lives up to what the team are saying.

HorizonXI 2023 Description -
HorizonXI provides its adventurers with a 75-era experience that maintains the spirit of Final Fantasy XI (FFXI) as if SquareEnix had continued to develop the game without ever having raised the level cap above 75. As their name suggests, their primary focus has been to re-create a FFXI experience that ensures horizontal progression for both content and gear. Beginning with their initial launch on December 17th, 2022 with “Chains of Promathia” era content and continuing years into the future, all expansions, including post-75-cap content, will eventually be rebalanced for our forever-75-cap private server.
Additionally, HorizonXI plans to effectively “rewrite the narrative” regarding content that many veteran players consider to be “the beginning of the end” for Final Fantasy XI, namely Wings of the Goddess and Abyssea. As such, HorizonXI will present this content in ways that will rework some of the more negative aspects of these patches and stay true to the spirit of what the level 75 cap era was all about - socializing and group oriented play.

Someone has probably commented this already, but there's an All Maps add-on for Horizon that automatically gives you all the maps for all the zones, without having to buy them. Highly recommend.
More FFXI let's play!
Great server! been playing on it for a few months now and this really brings back that feeling i had when playing on the 360 back in 2006 ERA.
I dont often comment on videos, but watching you revist the world of XI brought back fond memories for me as well.

Lovely video, Neon! Edited well and very engaging! It was nice to see an off stream Neon too, felt very one on one (obviously very much enjoy on stream Neon too 😉😅), more of a personal touch! I think XIV has a good community too, and there are some random people that will help ya' get somewhere or congratulate you on a level up, but I think you're right in that social camaraderie was more common back in the day on XI. And for me, it was really common on other older games like Lineage II and EverQuest too.

Yeah, the social aspect of FFXIV isn't like FFXI, its just very different, of course, this differs with the type of content you do, and server and datacentre for FXIV, but FFXI kind of forced you to be social and chatty, which I also think helps gamers get out of your comfort zone and shell, and a great way to meet friends and build communities This only enhanced FFXI's addiction into wanting to play more. my favourite would be phantasy star online, though its maybe because you get stuck playing with only 3 other people at a time, making it easier to bond.

Ah man, this game just hits different every time I play this game, and HorizonXI was no different and definitely was the closest it brought me to feeling the same I felt when I played Retail back in the early 2000's.

If they ever update thr graphics engine this would be hands down a top tier MMO in the modern era! I have many many many fond memories of this game.
they did add a patch you can download there are videos on utube that display the difference. some even have 4k
Id like to see more as not able to play game myself, also like the narration with the gameplay

Its nice to see these open world interactions because ff14 there is 0 world exploration everything is just instanced areas
To level you just spam the highest level dungeon you can, sometimes I miss the more old scholl style of having quests and going into dangerous areas of the open world to complete them
FF14, while fun, is a total lobby game. It’s hollow.
the time it took in these old games to do things was unreal i played XI alot when i was young and most people never got to 75. i hate how new MMOs are as well but i understand it most people don't have that time commitment
So everyone knows there's a lot of good add-ons and plugins built right in to the launcher. There's also approved list of ones that you're allowed to use outside of the launcher. For example when he missed out on was all maps. So you got all the maps.

playing on horizon you should look at enabling some of the quality of life addons, in the launcher there are built in addons you can enable (Ie, you could enable all maps so you have every map etc..)
I'm too young to have played 11. I've tried to watch it a few times after getting into 14 but the HUD is so different it's hard to wrap my head around.
This video felt like the first time I could understand what was going on. You do a great job of keeping the video coherent and I appreciate you zooming in on parts of the HUD to draw focus.
Would happily watch a part 2 of this.
There is addons for that.
i struggle to get used to newe mmo huds because they just get so cluttered, can barely see whats going on, always liked how clean ffxi looks.
Cateyesxi aims to offer a similar experience, but prioritizes quality-of-life features and options to accommodate busy schedules and solo play.

I checked out your character on horizonxi site lol, are you still playing, cause you seem to still be lvl 15 after a long while. I might get back into horizon at some point, gonna probably party around that level.

Horizon XI is a FF11 private server and it’s completely free.
The server is still very active a year after but you will see less people leveling at low level as everyone has gone far. Like any other private server it will get old and slow eventually. I hope they will do something to bring back old players as well as new

Hey man! Great video! I played this game for countless hours as a teen/young adult. How is the server population on that server? I always tried to find an mmo that would hold my attention like FF11 but nothing compared to FF11.
It’s very populated. 1.5-2k+ players on most of the time.

Google horizon xi their installer is really easy to set up
also you are not alone, im really enjoying horizon just for that you actually talk and work with people in a way that you just don't in xiv, and people start flinging reports for people existing in xiv all the time and im tired of it
Does Horizon still block LAN Party play? That''s what kept me and my friends from trying it.
horizon still does 1 account per ip unless you file an exception on their discord

we called them dps in 2003... when it launched
I started horizon and launch and very quickly got bored after hitting 75 on a few jobs. They don't add content fast enough and there a huge amount of players cheating/hacking. Anyone who, my two pennies.
Why Horizon instead of Eden?
2,500+ peak hours player population. No Dual boxing. And plans to release all expansions but in 75 cap. +custom content

Sadly Horizon XI is not a good place. The devs don't give a f for the community. Asking for a little quality of life improvement for the launcher and they say it's silly. Avoid this server. If you want to play ff11, use another server. It's bad and not community friendly.
