Thanks a lot ! this is The video I've been looking for,as I've got a similar problem with an antique table I was given.Excellent video with clear explanation.
Hi, welcome to the channel!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your gratitude! It always makes my day!
I appreciate you watching and hope you have a blessed day!
Gorilla glue isn’t really wood glue. It’s polyurethane glue which expands about 10 times its size. So if you don’t clamp it enough it can make your life really hard because the expansion might push your clamps up too. I’d recommend white glue, hide glue, or yellow wood glue instead.
Thank you so much for sharing that with me! I have tried Elmer's wood glue in the past and had that exact problem with it so I thought I would try the gorilla wood glue instead. I'll take your advice and try those next time. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your knowledge. Have a blessed day!
Thanks for this. It’s most helpful. After a messy job stripping an old cabinet of layers of thick, sticky paint, I was especially looking forward to the fun part, giving it its new look with milk paint and stencilling. But then I saw a small area where the vaneer was lifting away from the core side panel. How to get glue underneath the vaneer without further adding to the damage was a question that stumped me. So you have made my day, actually probably my week! And with a cat that receives daily subcutaneous fluids means I’m not short on needles and syringes, Thank you!
I appreciate you taking the time to write a thank you! Just in case somebody that’s reading these don’t have a way to get needles, you can go to an IFA or tractor supply or international farmers and they sell needles individually for administrating medicine to Cattel so you could go there for about $.50 and get a needle that would work just fine. Or they sell them on Amazon. But that way you can get them quicker locally.
Once again I appreciate you watching and welcome to the channel! Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
Hope do notice me, is wood hardener effective to put for a while before fixing it? Because i don't have the specific material yet cause of deep flood outside our neighborhood but i have wood hardener oil; what is the proper way to put the wood hardner on the veneer; brushing it? Spraying it? Or etc
Hi, welcome to the channel.
I am not sure what wood hardener is. If you are talking about varnish, I have used brushes to apply.
I hope that help. Have a blessed day! Thanks for watching.
Some really good tips, thanks.
Thank you so much for your gratitude! I appreciate you watching and hope you have a blessed day!
You can buy glue needles of all sizes on amazon
Sam Tate I appreciate you sharing that information! I wasn’t aware of that. Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
Great idea! I have a similar situation with some night stands I found. I'm wondering thought what to do with parts of the table where the fiber filling is swollen and disintegrating. Mainly, how do i get rid of the bulge?
If you put the glue in there, then place a heavy set of books or weights on them placing them flat, it usually will flatten with the weight and the glue. However, veneer will soften and can be molded by steam. You would want to make sure that if you are not refinishing the varnish that you may not want to try that as it may ruin the finish. However, if are going to refinish it, you can use a steamer and get it slightly moist, then put the glue in quickly and then place the heavy flat item on top. That can help the bulge. Then, once it is dry and flat, you can then fill any cracks in the finish by adding a little bit of the color varnish you are putting on the item into wood putty making sure it is as dark as you can get it, you can then use a spatula to spread the colored wood putty into the cracks getting it as close to the same finish as possible. Here is a link to where I share both techniques. ruclips.net/video/WJe5nEDp8is/видео.html
The title is: Refinishing Wood Heirloom Furniture - Staining, Gluing, Sanding, Staining
Hopefully, that will answer any questions you may have. Thanks for watching. Have a blessed day!
Me too
I tried finding the after on your site no luck.
Hi Anne, welcome to the channel!
If you go down to Dustin stoleburgs comment and click to read the replies, there are several links to the blog posts about this.
Let me know if you have any more questions!
Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
Would you recommend this step before or after sanding??
Hi Caitlin, welcome to the channel!
If you sand and it’s loose and high, you may rip off the veneer. If you sand around the veneer carefully that seems to be loose, and then glue it down it may save you having to sand through some glue to get to the varnish after gluing. It all depends on the piece and how water damaged it is.
If you have really loose and flaky and splintery veneer, And you’re going to paint the peace, then it really doesn’t matter you can glue it first and then paint over it once you sand it. It’s just if you want to add stain to the natural wood that you would have to worry about that.
Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
Wouldn’t it be better to use hide glue. Just asking I don’t know and I have to do the same thing
Hello Rich, welcome to the channel!
Yes, it would. Any wood glue wiould be better.
Thanks Watching! And have a blessed day!
Hmmm...trying to find a video more along the issue of my veneer..the glue seems to be holding, but I have what looks like "big bubbles". The wood itself looks to have expanded (I don't think I can add a photo)
Hi Rebecca, welcome to the channel!
You could try the needle method under the big bubbles and then put heavy books on them and see if that makes them go flat again.
I have also in the past used an X-Acto knife to cut out a little section of the veneer if they have expanded so that I can then put glue in and put weight on them and bring them close together if that makes sense. Kind of like when you’re altering a pattern and you cut out a small section in the middle and sew the sides together to make it smaller.
Hopefully that is helpful.
Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
What if the skin itself has been peeled? what alternative skin can be put?...
You can buy new “skin” 😉 it’s called Veneer. You can order in sheets rolled up.
I have also just used wood filler and sanded the peeled area flat after the filler and then painted the top.
Hope that is helpful. Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
Thank you, just the help I was needing.
You are so welcome! Thank you for your gratitude. Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
Use hide glue and wax paper free weights work good
Wait what’s the finished product look like? I’m not sure I wanna use this technique or wax paper but I’d prefer to see the finished product to know how well it worked
Here is a link to the way I do it on my blog not on that table:

Here is a link to the way I did it with final pictures on the table in the video:

Here is a link to another video I made showing that technique on youtube: ruclips.net/video/WJe5nEDp8is/видео.html
Waxed paper isn't the right term, the clear plastic used in windshield repair that you can buy in the fabric department at WalMart is what I use. It is shown in the blog posts.
Here is a link to the post showing a picture of the finished heirloom table as well that I show in the first blog post and the video above.

How did it come out?? I'm guessing you made it look amazing but my inexperienced mind is having a hard time imagining? Do you have a followup vid?
Hi Dustin, Here is a link to a blog where you can see one of the tables finished. There are links within it but I will post them here so you can see the process on the radio table I did.

Why are you out of breath? You got it girl! You know what you're doing! Great idea
Bette Gregory Hi Bette,
I have some lung damage and so sometimes it sounds like I’m out of breath because I am or I just can’t seem to get enough air.
Thank you so much for the encouragement and your kind words on the video! I appreciate you taking the time to do that.
Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
Put the PLAYBACK SPEED ON 1.75!!!
thanks for the help just threw a banger and fucked up the table
Glad I could help. Stay safe and thanks for your gratitude and for watching! Have a Blessed day!
I thought Gorilla glue expands. Do you have an after video or picture?
Hi Eli, I have used several types of glue over the years. I have had problems with several all for different reasons but you can just use your favorite wood glue and the results are the same as long as it will be thin enough to be pushed through a needle. I like the printer refill needles as they are larger bore.
I have several blog posts and you can find those on my blog: thesecretisgratitude.com and you can search veneer and glue in the search box at the bottom of the home page. Here is a link to one of those. thesecretisgratitude.blogspot.com/2017/06/refinishing-heirloom-part-1-gluing.html
Thank you so much for watching and I hope you have a blessed day!
I feel pretty ripped off watching seven minutes of what should be two or three tops, and no final result. :-(
I don't have editing software currently so I share in my comments on the video that you can get information by checking out my blog. Usually people are understanding as I am busy and just trying to share, perhaps I shouldn't post if I can't put the finished product, but I figure that the information will help those that need it and based on the other comment, someone has. ;-) Here is the blog on that piece and here is another blog I show similar stuff. Thanks for watching. Have a Blessed Day! thesecretisgratitude.blogspot.com/2018/10/fixing-bubbled-or-water-damaged-vaneer.html
thesecretisgratitude.blogspot.com/2017/06/refinishing-heirloom-part-1-gluing.html
I would be more convinced this works if you had shown us the finished results.
Hi, welcome to the channel!
Yes, that would have been helpful. I didn’t have a way to combine videos at that point, but I did a link to my blog where I did show pictures of it working and refinishing a table and how it came out.
If you look at the description, I share that information and also on many of the comments on this video, I share that information. It was all that I could do at the time!
Maybe at some point in the future I’ll make another video if I have some thing that needs repairing that way.
Until then, Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
Use a weight instead of tape and you’re set
Hey Danny, That's a great suggestion! I appreciate you taking the time to share that! Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
I wish you would have showed the finished work to prove what you did worked.
Hi, Thanks for watching. Here is a link to the finished product. thesecretisgratitude.blogspot.com/2018/10/fixing-bubbled-or-water-damaged-vaneer.html
I didn't have a way to edit or combine videos back then. I should do an update but I have 900+ videos and they all need updating since youtube changed their analytics. Most don't have tags and don't get views. They made it hard to want to update them as if I do change much on the description, it dumps you back to the bottom of the viewing pool. I did an experiment with a video with no views in a year, one with some, and one that got lots of views. I took the time to redo each video, the one that never got views gets one or two a month. The one with some gets just a bit more, and the one I changed that had lots of views, dropped in views.
So, because of how RUclips is, I probably won't fix it.
Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
I did it with the Woodglut plans.
Why are you short of breath, do you smoke or are you out of shape
Hi and welcome to the channel!
I have lung damage. I have gotten a few comments about it over the years, but got the most part, people are just grateful fir the information.
Thanks for watching and have a blessed day!
