The Lummi Island ferry is a lifeline for the 800 or so people living on the island -- a lifeline that could soon get much more expensive.
"It raises the cost of living here exponentially," says island resident and attorney Peter Earle.

Nothing is for free. The ferries are subsidized by tax dollars, and taxes can only cover so much of the expense.
People who choose to live on islands need to pay their way or get off the island. No reason we should pay the costs for those people.
He's a lawyer. I'm sure he has enough to pay the extra $3.80 instead of passing it on to the taxpayers.

Imagine i you choose not to pay revenue that can and should be set aside when that vessel fails and needs to be replaced? If you choose to live on an island, expect to expenses as it is not self sufficient living.

It's getting ridiculously expensive. I grew up in Edmonds. I can't believe what they're charging now. It's outrageous. So much for a weekend trip on the ferry. Can't afford it and now they're making it more expensive!
Insufferable wealthy luxury land owner asking for the government to subsidize his retirement island living. Surprise?
Then he can move. It costs to maintain a ferry to where barely any people live.
