I'm considering moving to this. After taking a 17" laptop (MSI Z17, so more similar to 16") to Computex, I really wanted something lighter and more portable, plus OLED would be nice. That said, while using the 17" and video editing I still found myself wishing for a larger screen haha, so maybe just need to travel with a 32" 4K 😂 For travel + video editing I don't think I'd care about the fan noise with headphones on, but that's me. Bringing an SD dongle would be a bit annoying though.
Why not bring along a portable 16” monitor for 2nd screen duty when you’re back at the hotel, and just carry a smaller screen size laptop for easy portability….
No issues with Gigabyte Control Center. No issues with fans getting constantly louder and quieter. If you choose the Conference-mode the fans are absolutely silent. It also doesn't get hot. I absolutely can't confirm the issues mentioned in the video test.

Thank you for your honest and unbiased review. I totally agree with what you said. It's a pleasure to watch your reviews.
8:02 - “RAM is soldered” - this is not a miscellaneous issue. It’s a deal-breaker! A 3D animator or special effects artist might benefit from 13700h and 4050, but it’s useless without 64 GB of RAM. Those who work with After Effects know what I’m talking about. What a shame. I like white laptops so much.
I’d love to see a review of the 2023 Huawei Matebook X Pro - I owned the 2018 model and had pretty good performance with stunning design + light and cool, granted it was using an 8th gen u-series chip
That laptop is so beautiful! It caught my eye in 三創 department store in Taipei once and another time in a coffee shop. The aesthetics is extraordinarily great! So sad that this powerful and beautiful laptop is let down by its fan noise and heat problems, which are both problems we might not be able to find at the first glance. Thank you for your great and thorough review! Love your content!
Agree, would love to hear your review of Yoga/Slim Pro 9i! The 14 inch is trying to exactly what this laptop is doing, but allows for "up to" 4070. Would be very interested in this with its MiniLED display
I do not get why don't you add a section for performance on battery, heck, this is a channel mainly reviewing laptops, laptops should be a hardware that can be used on the go. Its only acceptable to see how do they perform UNPLUGGED, else just buy a desktop.
I hear you. The only laptops right now where I would recommend doing that on are Apple ones. Laptops like this one perform extremely badly in that situation, and I can't recommend doing that. That's why I don't focus on doing that in my videos
I will always hate gigabyte for dumping the AERO 15 type (numpad, oled, all the ports you could need, 99wh battery). To my knoledge the AERO 5 has been left behind, right?
Thanks for the dedication. One thing I dislike about any laptop is the fan noise. I actually like the look of this laptop but now knowing the fan noise, this won't be my next laptop.
Can you make a new general spreadsheet like the one featured on "Best laptop for programming 2023" video? I found it very helpful and easy to navigate for choosing a laptop.
Just got my kid the 2023 Lenovo X1 Carbon and love it. With the touch screen hd+ display and 32g. Battery for days, silent and cool. This laptop sounds like a nightmare!
Do the Asus zenbook pro 14 next! It's probably the best 14 inch professional laptop i've ever used, sort of a low key G14 with an OLED. It's a lot better than this one for sure.
performance is the one thing im so curious about it, it's too good for the price it might be a better option than the g14, but we arent sure if its performance is similar to the g14
@@marcdave9521 The 4060 models game performance is similar (I actually bought one yesterday) when it comes to framerates in timespy. It's easy to open up, I added a second 16gb ram stick and 2tb NVME in no time. Build quality is good to excellent. Keyboard trackpad are typical ASUS: pretty good. The OLED is by far the best I've ever used for content creation, and the HDR experience is very nice with games and videos. Mine doesn't have a touchscreen, I've heard the digitizer making the highs look a bit grainy, so I opted out of that. I would say the only letdowns are the slightly high pitched fans under full load. Oh, and the overall quite decent speakers are lacking in the low end.
Booked it here for an exceptional price, some 30% cheaper than the initial price. Will check the mirroring of the screen though... pity it's just 16GB or RAM.

The same issue with Intel as per norm, and their 13th gen, is their destruction by Apple Silicon in 2020 meant that since then their solution is to ramp up the wattage to match Apple's performance. I understand that this is a medium-term solution whilst they develop more efficient chips, but it means that these high-performant 13th-gen chips need a lot of help to be usable at their max. Many gaming OEMs have increased their chassis' to allow for that extra power and more space for cooling and breathing. Hence the rise in 16 & 18-inch machines this year. But 14-inch will not handle the two top-tier 13-gen CPUs as well as they need to. Lucky for Intel is that Windows is a natural monopoly and no matter how much better Apple Silicon is, the drift from Windows to Macs is never going to breach around a 10% ceiling. Stockholm Syndrome, the legacy of Windows and Enterprise being caught in the Windows trap all combine to keep Intel in the game when in non-monopolistic sectors, they would rightly suffer from their lax decade of improvements. If your workflow allows, buy a Mac, they are far superior.
We already have arm chips which are very efficient but windows supports only some web browsers and stuff nothing much that's why it's taking time it's all microsofts fault
Same old, same old Intel problem. AMD CPUs with their superior efficiency are what’s needed for these thin and light laptops but for yet another year in a row, they are simply not available. @JustJosh is the 16” Gigabyte Aero better?
Ever since using the macbook pro for most things I do, I cannot go back to a windows laptop. I do use my Corsair Voyager 1600 for gaming and some school, I usually grab the MB Pro 16 because it is always quiet.
Josh, have you tried/tested the Asus ZenBook Flip S 13 OLED? It's a 12th-gen Intel. They also have the ZenBook 14 Flip OLED but it's a bit heavier (over 3lbs) for a convertible in my opinion.
I love your style and perspective. Would you be interested in making a video about other types of setups? I’m sure you’ve thought about some alternatives and the pros and cons. Great review! Your reviews are very conversational, which makes them much more enjoyable than a lot of others. You're also clearly being VERY honest and actually have real world considerations! I'm an attorney and am now looking for something smaller I can travel with and take to court...primarily I need a 2n1 computer that I can review/ edit pdf with a stylus, watch bodycams/ surveillance footage, have multiple windows open at one time, has a large amount of memory, thunderbolt 4 for transferring files and is fairly fast...AND needs to be semi-quite (Judges get surprisingly irritated if someone brings a turbine to a trial)... It sounds like but for the fans this would fit the bill, which they'd probably get me thrown in jail.... Any other 2n1 suggestions? Thanks a lot and keep creating!
Josh should i buy a macbook pro 13 (m1) 8-512gb? For my undergrad in CSE. In my country 16gb varient is far out of my budget. Should i get the mac or a windows laptop?
I love your little nit picks. Things like where the ports are and how you can charge it are small but get really annoying. Especially when you spend so much money on a nice laptop. My Acer CB311 Chromebook is $150 and has a USBC and USBA on either side and can be charged from either side. It is such a nice quality of life feature and honestly I don’t understand why it’s so uncommon if my bottom of the barrel chromebook can implement it.
I gotta start work, does that quality as doing something awesome with my day? lol - I recently picked up the new Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro 16". - The must that I wanted for my laptop when shopping was a large, beautiful, color accurate display. The Book 3 Pro fit the bill perfectly. The only weak part has been the speakers, but since it lives on my desk with access to my desktop speakers, it hasn't been much of an issue. The keyboard is great in my opinion. The laptop is very slim, which only adds to the typing pleasure. The trackpad is HUGE, and I love it. - Disclaimer, I do find myself using the shortcut key to disable the trackpad when typing to prevent unintentional clicks. Doing so is a quick push of the f5 key, so it's not a big deal (to me).
I have this as well though the 360 version. The speakers are disappointing and battery life is half what I get on my MB Air M2, though still enough for a full day. I do struggle with the keyboard, I cannot get used to the numpad and consequential key alignment; practice makes perfect, I suppose. The display is great, though I found that I need to pump up the brightness to get the full effect and that kills the battery faster. Overall a fantastic machine and as there is no perfect laptop out there, the negatives are not deal breakers.
@@andyH_England regarding the display. Be sure to try out the color profiles. Got to settings / display / color profiles. I choose the color profile named, “Samsung AMOLED P3 Profile”. I Loved the color accuracy. As for brightness, I tend to leave mine set to 60%. Battery life gets me through a day like you said. With exceptions being made for heavier workloads. I don’t think any PC can catch the MacBooks equipped with Apple Silicon in terms of battery life.
actually what's the point of these 14 inches with a discrete GPU. I have one and it's loud as hell and the battery life is just miserable. Never had a 16-inch thin&light gaming laptop tho, can anyone tell me if that gives you a pleasant experience?
thought about having a Macbook but after trying it for a few days I decided that the MacOS just isn't for me. The hardware is definitely mouth-watering tho,
Putting ports close to the hinge is impossible, because there are cooling vents. If you remove those side cooling vents for ports, you will get an even noisier and hotter laptops. These side vents, first popularised by Asus G14, are one of the main reasons why thin and small laptops has gotten much more powerful.
@@Qrzychu92 Well, I was not phasing it right and you were not getting it. The G14 uses back vents in conjunction with side vents. Those 10-year-ish-old laptops did have side vents, but almost all of them did not back vents, because the entire back was occupied by the battery. There was one old laptop I could think of, that has both a side and a back vents. The ThinkPad E440, which I had the pleasure to use it at work, but that thing only has one fan. I don’t think there was a laptop of that era that has two fans, and a side and a back vents for each the fans, which means the laptop has four vents in total (the cooling configuration of G14). If you can find one, please tell me in reply.
so what do you think the next contender ? i been trying to find laptop for a while and stumble upon this video. it ticks all the box that i want. powerfull processor, powerfull GPU, oled, etc. can you suggest me another laptop ? maybe something better than this ? i do love the chassis too
There are already more reviews than those zenbooks manufactured :)) 2022 S13 is an amazing little machine. 2023 is slightly better, but honestly it's also too expensive vs 2022. Beware, white edition of 2022 doesn't have that famous asus numpad.
@JustJoshTech where is the X1 Carbon Gen 11 video??? Probably the best windows laptop out there right now! Love your videos and would love to see you cover this gem.
The pricing is traditionally non-adequate for it to be "the best windows laptop" even after all possible discounts and perksatwork. Look for Lenovo T14s AMD latest gen.
Mech 16 from eluktronics or Neo 16 from XMG is the perfect laptop for you. BTW Tell JARROD'S TECH to do a review on the new 2023 ELUKTRONICS PROMETHEUS 16 G2!!!!! THANKS

Thanks for the review Josh. There is nothing about this laptop that is compelling to me. I would opt for the ASUS in a heartbeat if I was in the market for a Windows gaming laptop.
I do have a relationship with Dell. I have their Alienware x14 r2 here right now. It will be in a future video. And I will likely take a look at Inspiron again
Jumping on this thread, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BRING THIS BACK. Besides this laptop, I really only can think of the Lenovo Thinkpads as only premium ultrabooks that don’t have the awful half-height up/down arrows.
I think it using the same panel as the Acer 300 se. Same issue as well i only rented it but wow this is the loudest piece of hardware i have EVER SEEN. Otherwise the 300 SE is quit nice. They should stop over equipping these small laptops for stuff they clearly can’t handle
It's got nothing to do with Asus and everything to do with retailer markups, distribution enterprise, and gov taxes. If any of those are corrupt, you will see higher prices where you live compared to the US and Chinese market. Bear in mind that BB prices are also pre-tax and pre-shipping, so the actual price is closer to 1,850 USD.
@@lars2894 Where I life there is less or the same level of corruption then in the US and a lot better consumer rights. Unfortunatly it has everything to do with Asus. Asus is the same company that applied import taxes that only affected us in europe and just put the money in their own pockets. Also without tax the price is about 1900$ (here in europe).
No company can add tax, only the government has that power. Europe's inflated tech prices are mostly due to distribution enterprises that pocket most of that revenue minus msrp. They apply "regional price discrimination" marketing strategies, it's not really up to the manufacturer.
@@JustJoshTech I have to have windows 11 for my work basically a PC. I feel like it's too much trouble to get an apple and install other software and learn how to learn Apple OS.
Greetings from Germany. Notebookcheck has confirmed that there are some issues with the Gigabyte Control Center software. It keeps the CPU working for no reeason and also caused blue screens. After a update it should work as it was designed. Hmmmm. Perhaps someone can confirm that ? Such a nice laptop let down by the mediocre cooling solution. Perhaps i will test this new update and when i do this i will write my opinion here.
The Asus G14 is more expensive, noticeably heavier and has no OLED screen. The difference in performance between the RTX 4050 and RTX 4060 is also not really worth mentioning. And the Macbook is just no Windows Laptop and I am not interested in adopting the Apple eco system at all (as many others aren't, too). To be honest with you: Your comparisons and suggestions within your conclusion are missleading. Sorry.
We have a big comparison video coming next week. Its about 15 minutes long and literally compares all 9 high performance 14inch laptops across everything from display, performance, look and feel etc. Why don't you take a look at that one when it comes out and see what you think
Yes, intel chips aren't as efficient as Apple's, but they are definitely usable if temp/power is kept in check. This is downright embarrassing product from LG, feels like no QA has been done to it
Yawn, another windows laptop with the same problems as most other laptops. The repeated widespread, cross-manufacturer incompetence / indifference to all the same issues is staggering.
i found a little trick on the internet, i have a same problem with my laptop being warm in a light use case...the things that i need to do is to custom the processing power limit for each mode like quiet, balanced and performance....for quiet mode i limit the processing power to 89% to 91% and the problem are solved....but the problem with windows laptop are you need to do everything and to figuring out anything by yourself hahahaah it seems like they are not really care for customer needs atleast in few areas (only my opinion, so there are always a chance that what i stated now are wrong 🤣)

imo Asus is more reputable laptop brand than Gigabyte or MSI, and I think you would like bigger display more (that also means more space for cooling). I'd go with 4 or 5, probably more with 4 because of better performance per every watt and 120hz display
Hey Josh, I'm a Computer Science student living here in the Philippines I badly need a laptop but I can't afford one, the living conditons here are tough right now. I'm just wondering if you have a spare laptop or if any of you here reading my comment have one, it doesn't need to have any high specs as long as its working it's fine. My Acer CB311 Chromebook is $150 and has a USBC and USBA on either side and can be charged from either side. It is such a nice quality of life feature and honestly I don’t understand why it’s so uncommon if my bottom of the barrel chromebook can implement it.
Can you review the Dell Precision 5470 and Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i?
@@sarrum7696 thanks very much for the tips.
What laptop is the best laptop for gaming editing and programming but please be honest not affected by companies
actually what's the point of these 14 inches with a discrete GPU.
The hardware is definitely mouth-watering tho,
Brother can you review Dell G15 (2023) i7 RTX 4050 version ?
Putting ports close to the hinge is impossible, because there are cooling vents. If you remove those side cooling vents for ports, you will get an even noisier and hotter laptops. These side vents, first popularised by Asus G14, are one of the main reasons why thin and small laptops has gotten much more powerful.
Look at the Zenbook 14X Space Edition. That's how you correctly do side exhaust vents on a laptop. Anything else is a flawed concept
dude, did you see any laptop older than 10 years? They all used to have side vents, Thinkpads still have them
@@Qrzychu92 I wasn’t replying in that way. I meant it that the way the ports are around the vents.
That fan issue should be an automatic disqualification
2022's AERO 16 have tons of issues like staying hot while doing nothing
so what do you think the next contender ? i been trying to find laptop for a while and stumble upon this video. it ticks all the box that i want. powerfull processor, powerfull GPU, oled, etc. can you suggest me another laptop ? maybe something better than this ? i do love the chassis too
Yoga Pro 9i 14 inch is a good alternative
Man, your quality of videos are extraordinary. You are such an amazing youtuber man. Loved this video!
Hi Josh, please could we get a review for the Asus OLED S13?
Pls make a review on the Zenbook pro 14 oled
With your requirements why are you going with a 14" display? A 15.6 or 16" would be better.
He needs something portable
@@EmaryTegan I'd say a 15.6 is still pretty portable, i carry around a Zephyrus G15 pretty easily too.
Are you and Josh the same person?

Why was your review for the MacBook Air 15 set to private?
There were 4 things I wanted to fix. I will release it July 5th and put the 4 fixed things in a version history in the first comment. Normally, if only 1 thing I would just put it in a comment. But this time there were multiple
@@JustJoshTech ah okay. I thought something else happened to it. Thanks for the response.
@@mistermastermind528 I just feel its important for me to be as thorough as possible
Thanks for the review Josh. There is nothing about this laptop that is compelling to me. I would opt for the ASUS in a heartbeat if I was in the market for a Windows gaming laptop.
Like your videos Josh. Interesting though that you never recommend or positively review Dell laptops. Is it because you are not a Dell associate?
I do have a relationship with Dell. I have their Alienware x14 r2 here right now. It will be in a future video. And I will likely take a look at Inspiron again
Ohhhh thank god it has all-large arrow keys 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
finally someone said about this, pls make this normal again
Jumping on this thread, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BRING THIS BACK. Besides this laptop, I really only can think of the Lenovo Thinkpads as only premium ultrabooks that don’t have the awful half-height up/down arrows.
I think it using the same panel as the Acer 300 se. Same issue as well i only rented it but wow this is the loudest piece of hardware i have EVER SEEN. Otherwise the 300 SE is quit nice. They should stop over equipping these small laptops for stuff they clearly can’t handle
How is the G14 so cheap in the us? Here in europe I could only find one for 2119€ inkl. Tax (2321,93$)
Tech in Europe is just pricy like that
@@Medeci It seems a big part of that is down to asus that's why I try to avoid any of their products.
Gigabyte Error 14?
what 's the silent quiet laptop?
MacBook Pro 14 M3 Pro is quiet. MacBook Air 15 and 13. HP Spectre x360 with Intel 13th gen U series is quiet
@@JustJoshTech I have to have windows 11 for my work basically a PC. I feel like it's too much trouble to get an apple and install other software and learn how to learn Apple OS.
Good that you point out the relative uselessness of the micro-SD ports!
maybe it was updating in the background!
I need a laptop even a bad laptop i need it for my college
Great video
Is it good for DJing
So so. In nightclubs you'd want to lower the screen brightness. So the PWM might annoy you. It is more evident at lower brightness levels
At the same time, the problem with mac laptops is even when you need to fix something, you can't do it without apple permission :))
@@svinatraktore ahahahah i think both of them have their own poissons lol 🤣
All Josh says: it gets hot and noisy.
All we hear: it's an Intel laptop doing what an Intel laptop does.

imo Asus is more reputable laptop brand than Gigabyte or MSI, and I think you would like bigger display more (that also means more space for cooling). I'd go with 4 or 5, probably more with 4 because of better performance per every watt and 120hz display
What a shame for such a beautiful machine with that screen.
