Mac loved race cars and stayed at our family’s resort when he came to watch the races in MN. He got to know and became good friends with my parents. We went out to dinner one night with him and a storm knocked out the electricity while we were waiting for dinner. He entertained us by writing a song about it while playing “the spoons”. He stayed friends with my parents and even invited them to his house one time when they were in town. He was a great story teller and such a personable and humble man. Despite his hit song
He didnt change any still the same over all those years, loved his songs, loved him,I believe if you were down in heart and he be around and he knew you was hurting he would do or say something to make you laugh .God bless his families.
He was a top writer/singer of huge hits. Richard Leigh (well-known in Nashville) wrote the early Crystal Gayle hits and all his songs are about his own life. Most of mine are about my early life or dog experiences. Richard told me once that 'some people are touched on the shoulder' and told his audience that he is a deacon at his church. Then it was clear what he meant. It's a gift.

How do you not LOVE this brilliant and humble genius?? Rest in well-deserved peace, Sir.
Mac signed a Martin guitar of mine two years ago, I treasured it then and even more today. He was the real deal, just a man and his music.
