I'd suggest that cruise lines skip Bar Harbor from now on. There are plenty of places along the East Coast that would welcome cruise companies. If the cruise companies put in a decent docking, they'd be really welcome in numerous places with this economy.
I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop when the first cruise line announces that the MDR is no longer included in your cruise fare. This will happen at some point, might be years, but it’s coming. While my family and I love cruising, there is a tipping point re: costs.
Speciality dining is optional and a few dollars increase won't deter many since you can get a decent meal in MDR at no extra charge. We don't do specialty dining because its expensive and cruising is already expensive enough when you factor in travel expenses , animal boarding , excursions and souvenirs
Prayers for the gentleman who passed away. I usually only do specialty dining for special occasions as the MDR food options are delicious and offer several choices. Cruise ships could just pass over Bar Harbor and go elsewhere.
Royal Caribbean has found the money over the past decade to build multiple Oasis and Icon class ships. So they had the resources to either maintain their ships better or introduce a successor class. They’ve chosen to neglect the issue, it’s not happenstance.
Sad, we visited Bah Harbor on Allure of the Seas sone years back, was absolutely beautiful, did the excursion to Cadillac Mountain. Glad we got to do that, also i can’t imagine as a local when 5,000 passengers flood a small town like that
We always splurge at Tamarind when cruising HAL. Sometimes twice. Best speciality restaurant on the sea. (no, we haven't tried them all) But for us, even better than Rudi's, which was a disappointment.
I wouldn’t be one of the thousand, I wouldn’t go where I was unwanted. That goes for Barcelona too. The best thing for these places is no tourists at all.
Hi don my wife and I are currently on the explorer of the seas we sailed into a squall last night and we've had to turn round and head to Las palmas for medical assistance the captain has informed us we'll arrive in Miami 3 days late
I think Princess has already stopped going to Bar Harbor as the port was dropped from the itinerary of a recent cruise that my friends went on. I was there on a NCL cruise recently and we were the only ship there. Beautiful port and hope they can get something worked out that works for both parties.
I think the businesses will not have as many customers. I have never paid for specialty dining and really don't plan to, at least ,not right now. I wish the cruiselines would have taken better care of the ships during the pandemic. Maybe there wouldn't be so many issue8s now.
I doubt any cruise line will go to Bar Harbour now, and when the town starts to become a ghost town or one that has zero service industries because there are no customers, then it will be people like us on cruise channels saying 'we told you so'
@drumswest5035 I'm sure it did, but the question is can the people that rely on the trade these days remain in the town if they lose their income. Cruise ships spend millions each year in the ports that they visit and people rely on their business to survive.
We cruise Carnival and several of the menu items from the steakhouse are offered in the MDR on certain days. If we feel the need, we have them when offered. My condolences to the gentleman’s family. ❤️🩹 Propulsion issues - we have heard that a lot. You would think that the cruise lines would overhaul or take a look at their propulsion system before they break down at sea.
I went to Bar Harbor last year on a cruise and it was such a cute town, but too many people for one day. I don't know what the cap was at that time but it was too much. Just congested, long lines, streets crowded.
Seems to me that these engine/maintenance issues are happening with particular cruise lines, namely Royal Caribbean and Carnival. Maybe it’s coincidental, but the smaller lines with fewer ships don’t hit the headlines so much.
Prayers for the family of the man who passed, now for the ships that are having all these problems. Instead of building new ship how about updated the ones they have. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. Bar harbor to exclude passengers, I guess they don't want or need the income that come to the town. Stop going there altogether. Just my thoughts😊
You hit a partial mail on the head to do this breakdown. We are getting older and I get to get older with more chance of breakdown. What might be adult though money saving whether or not during or the expensive maintenance checking so letting go a bit longer to try to break down in the back we don’t have breakdowns and we got a little bit less> just my thoughts keep up the good work
I hear wonderful things about Bar Harbor, I guess it’s going to have to be a small ship port meaning you’ll have to spend a lot extra to get to see it from cruise ship.
I pay a lot of money for a cruise, and don't want to pay extra for fine dining. I now see a lot of menu options being removed to try and encourage folk to pay for what used to be included.
my wife works in quality for a major aerospace company.she said the main reason you have break downs is the quality of parts being produced crossed the board in all industries. its the mentality of people, lack off work ethic. quality passing product just to make quota that month. ship it good or bad.the biggest problem is people. price mod everything goes up bad parts have to be re-shipped and rem-ade costs money. people want more money for less work.
truly Don, ships, other than Carnival, used to go to dry dock more often. Now they push it out as long as they can get away with it. It shows in visible wear and tear on the interiors and clearly it shows in increased mechanical unreliability. Prior to Covid, for example, Princess always scheduled dry dock maintenance every 2 years for their ships. They took a lot of pride in their high standards of maintenance. Other lines and Carnival in particular, used to push it to 3 years. Now it seems 3 years is the standard. it's sad/disappointing.
Sorry the gentleman passed prayers to family and friends. We'll there going to feel the impact, minus the income. Ouch on some of those prices being raised
I believe that “ propulsion issues” in many cases is due to problems with fuel consumption affecting the cost to sail. Thereby resulting in cancellations of sailings. Just a thought.
I’d always budget more for Emeril’s or Chibang, but not much else. I really appreciate when the specialty restaurants are complementary the first time. ….so sorry for the family of the 71 y.o…..what’s up with propulsion problems? Can’t they be more proactive?
I hate to say it but during a pandemic I was very excited about the restart of cruising now, with all of the price hikes and the ad on's I kind of wish we can go back to the prepandemic before things got out of control. It's almost as if we in the cruise Community have created our own monster.
The quality of the pods that they're making has decreased. That's the only thing that you can say why all these pods are starting to break down on new ships
Larger ships with larger engines, both Diesel and Natural Gas Engines. These larger engines have more torque and probably don’t have increased maintenance schedule yet.
My tin hat thoughts about the ships these ship breaking down lately. Perhaps it is a way to save money/fuel. I know that they compensate the passengers for missing ports. Perhaps that amount is less than if they actually sailed to the port on the itinerary. Like you said, everything is going up. Just a thought. 🤷♀
Doing a 21 day on Majestic Princess and don't sail on Princess very often. Wondering if Princess Plus or Princess Premier is worth it? I don't normally eat in specialty dining or drink much alcohol so would it be worth the extra money?
Honestly haven't found the specialty restaurants any better than the MDR. I'd rather spend that money on excursions. Our last Crown Grill experience was not very good. Steaks loaded with gristle and the feeling of being rushed
I don't understand the demand for specialty dining. I am already paying for a good meal with my basic cruise fee. Why should I pay an additional amount for a meal that probably would not be that much on land. But that is fine. The more people support that, the better my basic price will be.
Well I usually have one specialty dinner night on a cruise so not a big deal for me but I know others that will use a Specialty restaurant 3 or 4 nights on a week cruise. Bar harbor is just hurting their small business's If they don't want cruiser money lets not go.
I think bar harbor only wants luxury lines that cater to wealthy cruisers with the cap set at under 1,000. That's their choice but personally, I don't think I care to visit there.
I wonder about these propulsion issues, is that the real problem or are they covering up for something else? If they are engine issues, what the heck is going on, not all the ships are that old. Either they not doing the maintenance they should be or maybe they are pushing them more than they thought they would and they should be doing more than planned???
Bar Harbor, Maine has been a summer resort town for a very long time. It was never cruise ship dependent. Their town, their decision. Even when cruise ships are not in town, stores, restaurants and bars are busy. It’s usually difficult to find a parking spot.
Ships breaking down is nothing new. I’d like to see some hard data of ships having problems now versus in the past with an adjustment for the increased number of ships. I find when something becomes popular. The news starts to show every example when in the past probably went unmentioned so until I see some data, I’m going to figure it’s nothing new.
When they used the word big on the vote, I do not believe they meant the size of the win in votes. I believe the big was meant for the importance of the win. It was a big win!!
No they didn't. Its staying status quo. Their area will still do just fine with the same amount of cruise people. There are many many people that go there that are not cruisers. Sometimes there can be too many plans that's what they don't want happening. Go or don't go, they will be just fine!!
I've always thought specialty dining was overrated. The service is great, but the food isn't that much better.
I love the Tamarind Restaurant on HAL
Condolences to the friends and family of the gentleman who died.
We never pay for speciality dining.
I'd suggest that cruise lines skip Bar Harbor from now on. There are plenty of places along the East Coast that would welcome cruise companies. If the cruise companies put in a decent docking, they'd be really welcome in numerous places with this economy.
Exactly! Not visiting where my money is NOT appreciated.
I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop when the first cruise line announces that the MDR is no longer included in your cruise fare. This will happen at some point, might be years, but it’s coming.
While my family and I love cruising, there is a tipping point re: costs.
That is a scary thought, but very possible.
We have been on 20 cruises and used specialty dining 3 times. Food in MDR just as good to us😊
Cruise lines need to just avoid Barr Harbor. Let them struggle.
These Cruise Lines keep going back to the MONEY WELL
either Tips, Dinning WI-FI Drink Package and other things ...
The WELL can Dry up ....
Speciality dining is optional and a few dollars increase won't deter many since you can get a decent meal in MDR at no extra charge. Agree on ALL points 😉👍🏽
Royal Caribbean has found the money over the past decade to build multiple Oasis and Icon class ships. So they had the resources to either maintain their ships better or introduce a successor class. They’ve chosen to neglect the issue, it’s not happenstance.
As I am not a foodie, specialty dining cost not an issue for me. MDR and buffet OK for me.
I’m so sorry that the gentleman drowned while swimming. Condolences to his family.
Sad, we visited Bah Harbor on Allure of the Seas sone years back, was absolutely beautiful, did the excursion to Cadillac Mountain. Glad we got to do that, also i can’t imagine as a local when 5,000 passengers flood a small town like that

It will be interesting to see what affect the vote has in Bar Harbor’s future.
#skipbellharbor If they don’t “NEED” our money 🤷🏼♀️👍🏽
Agreed. I'm sure they considered that as well
I wouldn’t be one of the thousand, I wouldn’t go where I was unwanted. That goes for Barcelona too. The best thing for these places is no tourists at all.
The town just can’t handle all of the extra people.

But Land visitors are OK 🤔
#PASSonBellHarbor 💯‼️
One my last carnival cruise we were the only table in the steak house for over an hour. The service was spectacular!
Cruises should stop going to Bar Harbor. The residents will be sad when all the business close.
Thanks for another great update!
Good thing I don't use specialty dining. MDR and Lido works fine for us.
Thanks for the news.
Hi don my wife and I are currently on the explorer of the seas we sailed into a squall last night and we've had to turn round and head to Las palmas for medical assistance the captain has informed us we'll arrive in Miami 3 days late
Very well presented Don, thank you.
I think Princess has already stopped going to Bar Harbor as the port was dropped from the itinerary of a recent cruise that my friends went on. I was there on a NCL cruise recently and we were the only ship there. Beautiful port and hope they can get something worked out that works for both parties.
Glad that the increase in specialty dining won't deter you, Don.
Thanks for the news
There must be a flaw somewhere in the propulsion system for there to be this many issues
Thank you for the updates
I think the businesses will not have as many customers. I have never paid for specialty dining and really don't plan to, at least ,not right now. I wish the cruiselines would have taken better care of the ships during the pandemic. Maybe there wouldn't be so many issue8s now.
We enjoy doing specialty dining once or twice per cruise, but with the increase in prices, we may stop even that.
Thanks Don
I doubt any cruise line will go to Bar Harbour now, and when the town starts to become a ghost town or one that has zero service industries because there are no customers, then it will be people like us on cruise channels saying 'we told you so'
Im sure Bar Harbor existed long before cruise ships visited
@drumswest5035 I'm sure it did, but the question is can the people that rely on the trade these days remain in the town if they lose their income. Cruise ships spend millions each year in the ports that they visit and people rely on their business to survive.

We have free speciality dining on MSC as diamond members but do not always use it
Seems to me that these engine/maintenance issues are happening with particular cruise lines, namely Royal Caribbean and Carnival.
Maybe it’s coincidental, but the smaller lines with fewer ships don’t hit the headlines so much.
That’s why I no longer do specialty dinning on Carnival or Royal Caribbean
Everything is going up and it's getting ridiculous!
Prayers for the family of the man who passed, now for the ships that are having all these problems. Instead of building new ship how about updated the ones they have. At least there’s one thing that has not gone up in place but I can count on. Might be a great show I RUclips from Don. Thank you for all your day.

Not good news for older ships. Thanks Don
Great information
Sorry the gentleman passed prayers to family and friends. We'll there going to feel the impact, minus the income. Ouch on some of those prices being raised

Ships could go to Rockland/Rockport/Camden instead
I believe that “ propulsion issues” in many cases is due to problems with fuel consumption affecting the cost to sail. Thereby resulting in cancellations of sailings. Just a thought.
Keep up the good work!
you really have to give the price increases in percentages for it to make more sense and to get the scope more accurately.
I do agree with this. Disney vloggers usually give only dollar amounts also, maybe so you can add it to your total trip cost for budgeting.
Let's skip bar harbor and see if they like the lack of cruise ship passengers not sending money in their port.
AGREED!!! 💯‼️👍🏽
Happy Thursday 🎉
I’d always budget more for Emeril’s or Chibang, but not much else. I really appreciate when the specialty restaurants are complementary the first time. ….so sorry for the family of the 71 y.o…..what’s up with propulsion problems? Can’t they be more proactive?
Doesn't sound like a big win for Bar Harbour. Especially for the businesses.
And as a result people will
Take less cruises.🚢 they will start to see it....
I hate to say it but during a pandemic I was very excited about the restart of cruising now, with all of the price hikes and the ad on's I kind of wish we can go back to the prepandemic before things got out of control.

I don’t eat specialty dining very much, not food oriented anymore. My waist can’t take all that food😞
Will not eat at the specialty dinong that keep going up so if everyone STOP going maybe they will go down and the cruise keep up slow down on going

THANK you! 😊
Lots of Ships having issues this year. I don't particularly want to pay for Specialty Restauarants
Doing a 21 day on Majestic Princess and don't sail on Princess very often. Wondering if Princess Plus or Princess Premier is worth it? I don't normally eat in specialty dining or drink much alcohol so would it be worth the extra money?
I don’t book specialty dining. Unless it’s part of a package I’m happy with what’s on board. Rather spend $$ on local cuisine in ports
An interesting, to me, stat would be, Are the ships breaking down mainly built in the last 5 years or is it across the age spectrum of all ships?
I always did Royal C. 28 times use to be awesome to bad they are not so good anymore.
Honestly haven't found the specialty restaurants any better than the MDR. I'd rather spend that money on excursions. Our last Crown Grill experience was not very good. Steaks loaded with gristle and the feeling of being rushed
Are the guests able to explore the immediate area in Yokohama?
So many businesses will probably have to close with the limit of 1,000.
They're pricing themselves out of business!
That what we would think but they are still filling their ships and Bookings are up for the Year in 2025.
Seems to be royal and carnival. MSC & NCL is unheard of
Hi Don, I say stay away from these port.
I’d be happy staying longer. Not so happy if I was on the next cruise.
I Don, what's up with FAS mooving to MAS on NCL it's look realy more than 100$ for a 7 days cruise...!
I don't understand the demand for specialty dining. I am already paying for a good meal with my basic cruise fee. Why should I pay an additional amount for a meal that probably would not be that much on land. But that is fine. The more people support that, the better my basic price will be.
Sure seems like every week or sooner you hear of a cruise being altered due to propulsion issues.
It's either fuel or defective parts from one supplier
Well I usually have one specialty dinner night on a cruise so not a big deal for me but I know others that will use a Specialty restaurant 3 or 4 nights on a week cruise. Bar harbor is just hurting their small business's If they don't want cruiser money lets not go.
I did the tepenyaki (sp), and didn't really enjoy it. It was good but not worth the $. Steak house, not interested.
Teppenyaki $70 on Norwegian Bliss
I think bar harbor only wants luxury lines that cater to wealthy cruisers with the cap set at under 1,000. That's their choice but personally, I don't think I care to visit there.
Like everything else, it's bound to go up.
Not when President Trump gets back in office 😉👍🏽😊💯‼️
I'm starting to have propulsion issues ;)
I am not a fan of specialty dining. Like mdr. Food not worth paying additional money
How much money is enough.......Carnival is a bunch of greedy so and so's
I wonder about these propulsion issues, is that the real problem or are they covering up for something else? If they are engine issues, what the heck is going on, not all the ships are that old. Oh my are you allowed to use the word drowning on censortube?
Succumbed to water inhalation
If I died doing something on any beach would not mind at all.

Where is Bar Harbour??
Maine.
A blue state.
Bar harbor is overrated.
Specialty dining on Norwegian is awesome.
Too many breakdowns
When they used the word big on the vote, I do not believe they meant the size of the win in votes. I believe the big was meant for the importance of the win. It was a big win!!
