      I'd normally agree, but Dbrand has had some issues with their new Ghost cases and quality control.
      Companies can hit a home run every time they swing, but Dbrand acknowledged the issue and is sending everyone who got a Ghost case a second one with updates materials for free.
      Shhhh happens, but what really sets companies apart is how they handle it.

    44:30 I get that people with budget builds want upgrade paths, but when you go Threadripper you're going all-out anyway, and you're either in a position where another $500 on a motherboard and faster RAM a few years down the line is utterly irrelevant or you don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. I bought my 3900x machine in July of 2020, and have not had to upgrade since. When I do upgrade, I am just going to do a new build because that whole platform is now irrelevant, and while I got the fastest memory available back then we're now a generation of DDR ahead that has double the speed.
    Upgrade paths really aren't as big a deal for most people. The theoretical ability to put a little bit of money into an upgrade is neat, but that really only works for the minor yearly upgrades, which most people don't do anymore.

    Back when I worked at Fry's Electronics, I found out that they don't WANT their computer salespersons to BE truly knowledgeable. If you KNEW computers you weren't likely to get a position as salesperson. They only want people who can push high margin products.

    • @kz.irudimen
      @kz.irudimen 8 месяцев назад +36

      That makes sense TBH. I worked as a "technical salesperson" (so I fixed computers but also sold them) in a small mom&pops shop, and when you were the tech and salesperson you really had to be 2 different people. I had some classes on how to really push stuff, and I hated absolutely everything I was taught in those. Thankfully the boss always told us we were "techs first" and she did not want us to apply those kinds of salespersons methods, she was a good person. But I can see why the stores you're talking about did not want techs selling, every tech I knew hated those types of methods.

      @@kz.irudimen TL;DR *Sigh* Ho-hum... Losing faith in humanity*
      (*one trick salesmen with no knowledge and the push for more because sales are king to many business owners)
      _____
      It's a shame, as an enthusiast, that most easy to find and get jobs are in sales. Which as you said, have nothing to do with sharing passion and product knowledge. I was always the person I wanted to see as a the customer, and my boss didn't like that at one job. The one time I took the advice to sell a new product, I got it wrong and we had to do a return and replace. I knew it felt dirty when I did it. I didn't know anything besides "it's really good, you need to try harder and get these out the door, we make a bunch on these." It was an edge case that I didn't check for compatibility on and the poor guy had to install and uninstall it which isn't trivial. I wouldn't have done that if I had done some research that I always did first. It stands out to me to this day because how wrong it felt to push a product I couldn't make a pros and cons list on the fly for. All it took was one time!
      And the other, I didn't stick around after the 8 hour training day. They were all about pushing deals people didn't ask about and wouldn't care for 60% of the time. Each person was to be sold to. It ruined my credibility with each person who cared about the interaction. I could feel it eating me. I knew what I was talking about and I knew the customer didn't need to buy any of what was on the desk to push. If it were general consumables I'd feel better about it. No 16 year old walking in for a $11 part wants to be sold $80 in headlight bulbs. It might work overall, but it's stupid on a per person basis.
      I'm into cars and powersports and am always uniquely and completely thrown aback with how ignorant most car sales people are. The ones who clearly aren't passionate. My S/O and I went to a large Subaru dealership and asked about their BRZ (a model they sold and had in stock) and the guy DIDN'T KNOW what I was talking about. Granted he was probably new, but my first job at Jimmy John's had a harder memorization test for the sandwiches than remembering a lineup of like 7 cars at the time. If he didn't have the shirt, name tag and desk, I'd think I was being pranked. We came to see a specific color (a pearl white) and he even failed that. I had to show him that the color options, on the car builder site, had names. We found an suv with the same color that they had on the lot so we could look at it. I've also had several older car salesmen throughout the years walk me through their car builder websites as if I needed the hand holding for the 3 steps it takes to get to a summary estimate online.
      Maybe it's the techy self-reliant way I am (and I feel most of us are). But it's rare for a salesman to know more than me. And if they seem to, I usually find out later they didn't know what they were saying because they got a big detail wrong. I hate when people, let alone, sales people, can't admit they aren't confident about something to a stranger. One salesman I met owned the small dealer I went to. He was super cool and we ended up talking about most of the cars on his lot.
      Point is, I don't expect a BestBuy employee to spout off the RAM options for each phone from memory but I do expect somebody trying to sell a $60K truck to a 20 something year old to not be incompetent. It's gross and morally bankrupt.
      And my favorite positions have always been where there is an understanding that there is no commission and that no underhanded tactics need to be present from anyone. Teaching is fun when you like the topic. I loved my time teaching people how to ride motorcycles safely, for instance.

      I worked at best buy and was given the boot from the computers department for not pushing useless addons and being generally knowledgeable enough to not recommend high end parts for facebook browsing. They didn't want to sell cheap parts because it was harder to justify tacking on service plans with them. But it was a win for me cuz they had me flying toy helicopters around the store instead. Good times.

Where you should be able to see within a few clicks, I think by law it should be 2, where the company is registered, who is the CEO or responsible for the company.
    Further important information like company type, specific laws, etc. need to be mentioned if applicable to the field you operate in.
    Probably goes against other European law as well.

    1:06:49 I think you might be thinking of it wrong. To me, I interpret it as instead of loading up a previous save/quicksave which looses all progress from after the save was made, instead with this feature you essentially fast travel back to a point in your playthrough and retain the progress made since the last time you were there. In an open world game, you can already kinda do this but in a linear singleplayer game, this isn't typically something you can do.
    I don't think Sony should be granted a patent for this mechanic as it could prevent other studios implementing a similar system in their games but it's a fantastic idea.

He gave the guard one number to call, then when the guard locks the keypad on the phone and walks away he bounces the hangup to get to an operator to say hes having trouble dialing a number, gave the operator the number and the operator connects the call.
    There is a scene where they use a pocket tape recorder to play back the tones to make a free call.

    Hackers has to be seen as a movie of its time. The music is still awesome and even though the visuals is very movie-like, the technical side is actually not that far off. Password lists, dumpster diving, reconnaissance and the knowledge of network (the books) and systems is very valid. The payphone part is not entirely fiction either. Of course, the "flu-shot and 3D Gibson"-part is a bit cringe, but you have to remember that they made a movie about hacking in 1995. Most people didn't know internet existed back then. Of all the movies dealing with hacking, this one is actually pretty good.

      Linus mentioned Phreaking and said the reason he didn't like the payphone part is because the guy just hit the hang up thing a bunch instead of doing something even remotely realistic (like calling a toll free number then blowing on a toy whistle). • @element7821
      @element7821 7 месяцев назад

      @@grn1 Phreaking (red boxing) was shown on the Razor&Blade show in the movie, and later used by characters in the movie to get free calls from payphones. This might be hard to believe, but it was actually a thing back in the 90s. The hammering of the phonehook was just a convenient way of reaching the operator of the phone line (yes, that was actually also a thing, but how to get it touch varied). I can recommend Kaspersky's writeup on the 25th anniversary of the movie, and there are a few really good summaries on Reddit as well. Short summary is that the GUI part is just for show but a surprising number of other details and topics are valid.
      I'm actually a bit disappointed in Linus for not knowing (or caring to obtain knowledge) before bashing the movie like he did.

You can use the triggers to A) choose a spot to play even if youve never played the game before or B) you watch someone streaming a game and they can provide a link to a "trigger spot" in the game so that you can then click on which takes you into that exact same point in the game you just watched the streamer play and play it yourself

    2:08:41 if you're going to complain about the quality of the dialog in Hackers, at least get it right... No it wasn't "pentium six' it was "p6 chip, triple the speed of the pentium", which was a reasonable expectation at the time as the original pentium was also known as the "p5". Plus all the "hacking" scenes were done in an artistic way instead of a realistic way in an attempt to allow the audience to understand what was going on. Realistic "Mr Robot" text terminals would not have flown for the target audience at the time.

      @@yetanothername2477 He's allowed to not like it, that's fine, but a lot of his outrage is simply flawed. While exaggerated for a theatrical movie, much of what was depicted was possible and/or factual.
      Each of the hacks on the Gibson were real types of hacks, the "social engineering" hacks done to harass Agent Gill (the actor was only 33 at the time) were possible if a little "theatrical". Hell Kevin Mitnick used to walk into telco branch offices dressed as a line tech to social engineer access to manuals. The video game in the club was a pre-release mockup of the real game Wipeout, the virtual reality system used by Plague was a Virtuality system running on a Commodore Amiga 3000 (although the punches were a bit over the top), and the hack to steal the "twenty five million bucks" was again based on a real hack.
      The books were all real. The hacker manifesto was real. The intersection of rollerblading and hacker culture, while exaggerated for the movie, was also real.
      Even the personalised screens each of the characters had on their computers used the sort of pixel art style that was popular in the Amiga and PC demo scenes as well as games. No you wouldn't have seen graphics like that as the hackers talked to one another over "28.8 bps" modems (they missed a "k" there), "arf arf", but at least the art style was consistent with the hacking scene of the time.
      While amped up and dramatised for the big screen, there was a lot of truth in the film. Unfortunately Linus has the mindset that what he believes is the actual truth, evident by the number of times he confidently asserts "no, for real though" "no, you are actually wrong" etc, and because of his closed mind he'll never see the truth behind the theatrics.
