That scene never deserves to be deleted. It's very powerful between Viktor and Adonis; Adonis and Ivan, and finally between Ivan and Rocky. Limited dialogue but the viewer understand it all.
This was actually my favorite scene out of the entire movie. Should've kept it.
Except they used it in Creed 3 with Dame! But yes it hits way harder in this movie, also Dragos continued story in 3 makes so much more sense with this scene in the movie

But will it be over? In the world of boxing the press would love for a rematch. Kinda like whole Canelo vs Golovkin thing. It becomes a press circus.
Would be very interesting if they tackle this in a future movie.
And see them forced to fight.
And just like Rocky had Apollo Creed as a friend, perhaps Adonis will find a new friend.
That’s just what I was going to say. The nods to each other are as if all these boxing warriors were saying, “we respect each other , and have found redemption and self respect and now we must put the past behind us. It’s finally over.”
Honestly a good ending for Drago, Trapped in slavery, but at the end became free and realized his true love isn’t respect, its his son
If anything, I feel like Viktor brought out the humanity within Ivan, something that I feel was so suppressed for the duration of the Cold War. And when Viktor was born, Ivan felt something he thought he would never feel: genuine love and care for someone
Yes! A fathers love for a child is immeasurable.
Ivan Drago was controlled and made to be an unstoppable fighter by his country and the corrupt Nicoli Koloff during the events of Rocky 4 and even his own wife who seemed like more of the villain in 4th Rocky as did Koloff and used Drago to fight against Rocky and Apollo as a tool.
This scene is so needed to make Creed 3 make more sense.

I was telling my wife leaving Creed 3 and me verbally saying what happened doesn't do it Justice at all

Definitely. I'm going to guess that the "Drago" spinoff movie will take place after the events of Creed 2 and before Creed 3. Maybe they'll show more how they became friends in that movie.

I don’t ever think Ivan was a bad guy, I mean granted he did say “if he dies, he dies” but I look at it like this, imagine and beaten dog that everyone abuses and controls and make it into this ruthless killing machine but all it ever wanted was love, that’s Ivan Drago, he was abused mentally by his wife and trainers, they tried to turn him into a killing machine when in reality that’s not who he wanted to be.

I always felt bad for Viktor. Throughout the movie it’s clear he did all those things because of his father. He boxed because of his dad, and he followed what he said because he wanted to make him proud. None of that stuff with Creed was personal for him, it was more for Ivan, and he went along with it because that’s what his dad wanted. He never wanted glory, he never wanted respect from a country that never cared for him in the first place, he just wanted to make his dad happy.

I would add it was personal for him only to make his dad proud and to maybe regain his moms love
@Joe mama I wouldn’t say please but I believe there was a part in him that wanted to win to prove her wrong for leaving, like rub it on her face or revenge for her leaving, cause I think his dads wishes kinda rubbed onto him

I wish they had left this in the film. Ivan nodding his head in Rocky's direction is like him finally acknowledging that he's sorry for killing Apollo.
I think it was also an overdue acknowledgment of respect from Drago for Rocky’s toughness & heart and the fact he’d managed to instil that in Adonis
The one scene that really needed to stay. And second did anyone notice balboa passing the torch at the end of the fight sayings it your time ?
Probably also a way of Stallone telling Jordan that he's passing the franchise over to him.
And why in Hell was that scene deleted?! That's a very powerful emotional moment for all involved.
Especially considering where it appears they are going in Creed 3. If the previews are accurate, this scene would make Drago's role in Creed 3 much more sense.

A deep moment of clarity for both Adonis and Ivan
Ivan finally accepted the weight and guilt of what he stole from Adonis (a father) while at that same time Adonis is forgiving him for it
The nod that Ivan gave to Rocky is powerful.

They finally get what they both are about its really wholesome actually.
Was all we needed for closure for Rocky IV
Throwing the towel was how Ivan turned to the bright side of the Force.
We love the way Creed went for Viktor, as Ivan's face has become ways warmer than the cold Siberian winter.
Somehow, it'd have been nice for Rocky to put current Ivan picture in his restaurant. It's pretty plausible since they met there first in the movie.

Respect is key. Adonis was showing a fellow warrior respect in his time of defeat and showing honor, and this scene really works for it, whether Viktor understood him or not. Great dialog, too. "You're more than just one fight. We BOTH are," is a fantastic line. It really feels like this is what the "Rocky" franchise (because it seems these movies are considered part of Rocky canon?) has built up to, incorporating actual nuance and depth, and I like it.
MASSIVE mistake to cut this scene.
Rocky and Ivan finally knew what they needed to do as fathers to their sons.
It was all about forgiving and moving forward
Why in the hell would they delete this scene....its so powerful it captures the essence of all the rocky and creed movies..all that history in one tiny 3 min scene with hardly any dialogue and every rocky and creed fan gets it ..
I pray someday they make a 'Director's Cut' with this scene included. It helped give a perfect conclusion to both Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago's arc in the franchise. Also, it helped set up a decent bond between Adonis and Viktor.
How this scene was left out I’ll never know. The subtle apology in Ivan Drago’s facial expression to Adonis is acting genius.

This is a powerful scene. Not just because its a breakthrough between Adonis and Viktor, but for Adonis to get an understanding of what kind of person Ivan Drago is. Adonis finally gets a good look at the man who killed his father. The nod of respect shows that Adonis understands that Ivan was a basically a tool used for his countries prosperity. In Rocky IV it was easier to see Ivan as the villain, because we saw the side of him that was brainwashed to bring Russian boxing to be superior to American boxing, which was why he killed Apollo in the first place. In the movie all he did was look scary and only said "I must break you." However in Creed II, you get to see a different said of him. You see his caring side of him wanting Viktor to be a successful fighter. Viktor never fought for a belt, or not even Russia's respect, but only for his fathers approval. So when Viktor lost to Adonis, Ivan tells him "It okay" showing you the only reason why Ivan trained Viktor was for Viktor only. When you see in this scene with Ivan in the locker room with Viktor and the scene of them jogging shows that Ivan will never leave Viktor's side. Even Ivan nodding his head at Rocky is important, symbolizing that the bad blood is over, said, and done. That's why this is a good scene.
this scene alone could have got them another 5-10% on Rotten tomatoes it makes Drago and his son so easy to empathize with and it grounds them and think anyone who enjoys sport would resonate with that 'you're more than just your last fight' line
But it doesn’t change Creed II was still good
Them being good friends in creed 3 would have been more impactful if they kept this scene in instead of deleting it
Watching this again after seeing creed 3. Its just different.
They need to re-add this scene for a directors cut now that Creed 3 is out. I think its a great trait of the Adonis character that he is able to relate and have empathy for his rivals, its something that he does on screen that Rocky didnt and it gives him his own identity.
After rewatching Creed III I totally understand. And it enhances the series multigenerational appeal
I mean, all of Rocky's rival were trying to fucking MURDER him on the ring.
Maybe not Apollo, but then they became friends.
And Rocky does show empathy to Mason Dixie, who wasn't trying to murder him in the ring, heh.
And let's not forget giving a job to Spider Rico.

Deleting this scene was criminal! Still fits well with the story and that heart to heart with creed and drago realizing they’re more than their father fight is crazy good
Dude Drago and Creed's son looking each other in the eyes to me is one of the biggest scenes in movie history, even w/ no dialogue between them!!!

should have never EVER been deleted from the movie! This brings the stories full circle and resolved so much....
No understanding why they cut this, Probably wanted to leave it open for a future 3-peat match, but it was so beautiful and touching, and sets up Creed 3 perfectly
I just finally saw Creed II a couple weeks ago....I think it's a shame this scene was deleted....I think it said a lot....
The line we are more than just one fight being the whole center of the movie and this being so impactful to everyone in that scene shouldn’t have been cut
This scene puts Drago’s appearance in Creed 3 into context.
They shouldn’t have deleted this scene because at the end you can notice that Ivan shows respect to Rocky that I love most

This scene was AMAZING. No words between Adonis and drago yet they fully understood eachother. The same with Rocky and Ivan drago. This scene makes Adonis and Drago being friends in creed 3 make SOO much more sense
I like it as an extra deleted scene. It gives you more information without interrupting the flow of the final film.

I never thought until the lockdown happened that I as a 1993 baby would be invested in such an iconic rivalry turned bromance in Rocky and Apollo. My dad encouraged me for years to sit down and watch the Rocky series.

This must of got back to Michael B Jordan because a locker room scene with almost this exact template exists in CREED III and it was awesome!
The more and more I see the movie this scene adds so much more to the story that it’s crazy it got left out should have made it to the movie
I remember when I first saw this scene, after rocky stood in the doorway all I could think was "let it go Ivan, let it go." Really warmed the heart when he gave rocky that nod.
Deleting this scene was OUTRAGEOUS. This scene was probably the MOST CRUCIAL scene in the ENTIRE MOVIE. It’s when they agreed to bury the hatchet. Everyone got the closure they needed to move on. It’s also important cuz without saying it, you can tell Drago finally admitts to his guilt over Apollo’s death and Rocky forgives him for it

I love this scene but I feel like the reason it was cut was because when Rocky says “it’s your time now” and sat back it was kind of the end of his story and as good as this scene is I love the way they end his arch

Rocky is one of the top 10 movie franchises in the history of cinema. I go back to the very first one. I had the Rocky album, my uncle gave it to me. I trained to fight a childhood bully by listening to the Rocky soundtrack and watching the movie. Rocky IV was the last one I was really into. I had the soundtrack for Rocky IV on Cassette and CD, but whenever I see a clip I always pause and watch because Rocky and I go way back, and it's a fond member.

I’m glad this moment was altered and put into Creed III. It’s a really cool concept and even more powerful in the 3rd film, I feel. Though I still choose to believe this scene happened in the Rocky canon.

@@manuelorozco7760 it's the worse from the trilogy, which is on par for the course with the Rocky series. We sould expect a dive in the quality of the series for the next 2 movies, then they will hibernate for like 16 years and we will have an excellent movie about Adonis wanting to get back to the ring after years of retirement after Bianca passed away or something like that.

Man this scene should have been at the beginning of Creed III. Perfectly wraps up the personal loose ends within the Rocky-Drago rivalry

This scene should have just been added to the start of Creed 3, to tie the 2 films together better. It being cut from Creed 2 was foolish at best. They're randomly close friends in Creed 3 and this scene explains how that happened.

Notice Dolph Lundgren arms here.. He is still in great shape north of 60..
Dolph Lundgren is now 66 and be 67 years old November 3rd this year but he still looks in good physical condition as does work out as does Stallone who is 77 and be 78 in July.

No matter how many times I see that scene, I always ask myself afterwards who was so stupid to make the decision to delete it... It would have made the movie better. I get goosebumps everytime. That moment between Adonis and Ivan, then Ivan and Rocky, no words were spoken but it still said so much. A very powerful scene and a stupid decision to delete it.
Such a powerful scene. So much is being said without words. Show, don't tell. Shame it wasn't in the movie. But maybe it could be made the opening scene in a Drago Spin-off. Which I would very much like to see.

Great scene. But one thing I craved didn’t happen. For Ivan to have genuine remorse over killing Apollo and to apologise to Mary Anne for it.

In a certain way, I'm reminded of Ludmilla Drago's quote: "I hope afterwards we can be friends"... this scene finally brought at least peace and understanding to all involved persons.

In this flick Ivan Drago talks more and seems a lot more human. He was a coach and agent to Viktor, but more than that, he was father. That’s why he stopped the fight, because if he hadn’t Viktor would’ve died like Apollo. But this scene was the final exclamation point on his character, I think there was the tiniest flicker of remorse. Deleting this scene was criminal.
Even tho drago lost his father didn’t abandon him. Like everyone else did to him. He stuck by his side
This scene and the deleted Paulie scene from Rocky Balboa both belong in their movies. This is great.
It would’ve been cool to hear Donnie ask him why he killed his dad, but I highly doubt Ivan would even respond with anything apart from sorry since he’d feel that guilt in him that he’d been holding in for decades. Either way, this ending should have never been cut out. It’s a moment of forgiveness that ends what started in Rocky IV

Criminal to delete this scene but I can see why it didn’t make the film, it would have given us the closure we all needed, but it also might have marked the end of the franchise after closing this loop.

Hollywood is full of greedy stupids. But at least keeping the Rocky series alive in this matter was a teeny bit smart
