    Just received my Savvy cable shifter. Same no instructions. Your step by step made it easier. Thank you Sir.

    Lots of "monkey cam" that could have been edited out - BUT - this is by far the best video on this subject I've seen! Thanx.

    My Jeep has a tummy tuck, and I didn't have enough room to get a wrench in to fit the top mounting bracket nut. Cutting a 9/16" wrench in half made this possible without dropping the tranny down.

    Did you put jack stands under your transfer case and transmission or did you just let them hang?
    Thanks for making this video I have a 1998 TJ 4.0l same as yours . since 1999! I was a young guy when I bought it!

    • @v8only

      I supported the trans with a jack stand. That’s a lot of weight to just let hang

  • @captainbc52
    @captainbc52 3 года назад +1

    Question....
    When pulling the skid plate do you not have to support the transmission with Jack stands? I have a manual if it makes a difference.
    I've just seen other videos where they say you have to support it.. but I'd rather not...lol

    • @v8only
      @v8only  3 года назад +1

      I did. I put a Jack stand at the back of the transfer case. Otherwise you’re hanging entire trans and transfer case off of the motor mounts

      You absolutely need to support the transmission regardless of auto or manual. 👍

    I just bought a 1998 Jeep Wrangler, the entire linkage bar is missing (except for the components that are screwed onto the body and trans) It is a lifted jeep as well, so I guess that's why it was pulled-off, someone just decided to never fix the issue. It appears your SAVVY option is the best choice for me at this point. My question is this: I went thru the different positions on the transfer case, 4H, 4L, 2H and the front driveshaft still spins...is this supposed to be the case? Shouldn't it stop spinning if I have it in 2H while driving?
    I'm wondering if my trans is stuck in 4-wheel-drive ?? You can tell that I'm new to this. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

    • @v8only
      @v8only  3 года назад

      It’s similar to a manual trans. In neutral, the input and output will spin freely. In 2wd the front shouldn’t spin. Try holding the front yoke with your hand if the transfer case is out of the car. Only the rear should spin in 2wd. Front should not be locked in. You can also put it on 4 Jack stands with wheels in air and try running 2wd to see if the front wheels spin. Be safe about this and make sure someone is in the car at all times to activate the brake

    My 2000 Tj is stuck in 4 high and I’m pretty sure the shifter linkage is broke or wore out, I loosened the 13m bolt that holds the cable in correct place. The whole shifter is loose and dangly, am I able to replace the linkage and then be able to shift back to 2wd?

    • @v8only
      @v8only  Год назад +1

      Try removing the linkage and shifting the transfer case with just the lever. If it doesn’t shift then the problem is internal

      @@v8only I appreciate the help, I was able to get it back in 2wd..however I do not think it is completely right yet. It seemed to shift fine to 4 high and when I tried going to 4 low it started grinding

    I just installed this and now I can feel it click into 4 hi but if I shove it to the very end just before you have to move it over to neutral, the transfer case basically goes into neutral and the 4wd light isn't on the dash anymore, but it is whenever I can feel it click into 4 hi. Any ideas? Is this something I need to worry about?

    • @v8only
      @v8only  Год назад

      Hard to understand exactly what’s going on. Click once, 4hi, once again neutral, one more is 4lo. Are you getting each one?

    • @manualtuning5222
      @manualtuning5222 Год назад

      @@v8only yes but there’s a gap between 4 hi and neutral, there’s just a dead spot at the end of 4hi right before you move it over to neutral
