Similarities in Super Deluxe and Aaranya Kaandam
    1) there is a "key" hanging in the car/Jeep in both movies.
    2) Flight used to explain the timeline in Super Deluxe. for comedy purpose in Aaranya Kaandam
    3) Singa perumal poster is visible in Super Deluxe.
    4) Inspector Berlin speaking on the phone with police man Mayivahanam from Aaranya Kaandam

Good review, Ma'am. Great that you've mentioned about the color palettes . Regarding subtitles, there are no proper English substitutes for certain words in tamil. I recommend you to learn Tamil. I am Malayalee and I learned Tamil and Telugu by just watching movies. Learned Kannada when I worked in Bangalore. I know English and Hindi as those where taught in school. I work in Kuwait now and learning Arabic now. I want to learn Mandarin next.

The susbtitles were kind of manipulated to make more sense to the audience who didn’t understand the language since direct translation would have killed the actual mood of the scene.

Now that you had liked this movie.. I definitely recommend you to watch his 1st - Aranya Kandam - simply because the aesthetics and universe of this movie is just an extension of his 1st to the extent that at one scene you even see ''obituary notice'' of the villain character of the 1st movie appear at a wall in this movie. Now that was just one example. There are many. The director had literally created his own world and an unique experience that would take multiple watches to grasp them all.. guaranteed each time the effect and experience would be totally different due to multiple layers that the movie deals with.

It's not taking place in Chennai you see. It's his own world.
The subway is from Mysskin's previous film 'Pisasu'.
The fat teenager is from Nalan Kumarasamy's 'Soodhu Kavvum'.
The posters reference one of the characters in Thiagarajan Kumararaja's debut 'Aranya Kaandam'.
This world is kind of mélange of all of these creators worlds.
Karma doesn't seem to work here. The higher ground of judgement is from the alien and not the director, which is a clever escape.

I love how you discuss everyone and every part of the movie. This type of reviews show that you respect those who have yet to watch the movie, and also are aware that you do not want to influence anybody's expectation of the movie - you let them decide. I love it when you ask people to go watch the movie, and how you get excited when watching Vijay Sethupathi carve his masterpieces. Thank you for objective reviews Melanie. Hi mam, I get to understand the movie better @3rd time the broken TV and the subway scene & Berlin are the hyperlink between all the stories... Flight is used as distraction as it crosses in many places the real timelines are in vj setuphathys vintage clock with no. Of rings.. The colour palet & costumes are used to determine the characters motto vijay sethupathy& surprise charac has the same dress design wherein vj sethupathy starts the conflict in one and the other one solves the conflict in teen age boys story, Ramya Krishnans Saree and fahath fazils house will have a similar designs, Fahad Fazil dress color and vj house color similar, the blue paint sea and black dress Tsunami in miskins story indicates the Tsunami disaster, yeah the boys cat shirt indicates the schodingers cat and lots of cat reference in the boys stories. Tv & radios played in the background are used as que for the mysterious thing in the storyAnd there are few similarities bw aranya kandam and Super deluxe the girl in Ak & samantha SD
    Ramya Krishnan SD- Sampath AK
Sappa character AK - Arphudam SD
Kodukapuli & his father AK - vj sethupathi & his son SD
    Singa perumal - Idiyameen
    Berlin - gajabathy
Singa perumal gang tries to kill Sampath - three boys
These are some of my observation, wherein I dint enjoyed the movie while I'm observing like I Did for first time if you go into details you'll loose the experience of watching :p

And also it sort of added to the gender fluidity angle of how indian society treats transgender characters . General conceptions of sexual morality and sometimes the hypocrisy associated with the societal norms around sex and sexual morality .

He is so evil that's why he was named "Berlin" Hitler's capital..
There is a sentence constantly told by everyone "I did what I thought was right at that point of time" including Samantha.
And another dialogue from the old lady to Vijay "I know you became what you wanted but that did not allow you inside the school, reality is different from what we think we want from society"
(Applies to all , standards set by the society, certain beliefs or religion)
So that's why the director didn't try to change the sexuality part on women instead kept it real as it's the hard truth how much ever we are trying to change the society. No worries, we are getting there.

    www.google.com/amp/s/www.thenewsminute.com/article/super-deluxe-vaembu-kollywood-ready-womens-extramarital-desires-99407%3famp
I understand where you're coming from regarding the portrayal of women's sexuality. But honestly I feel it is more of a commentary on the way a lot of places in India still perceive women's sexual freedom. Yes, India is still in a stage where sex, especially the very thought of extramarital relationships is a taboo for girls yet a privilege for guys. The above article touches on this beautifully.
TL;DR - that felt like a criticism of how people especially in suburban India go about their lives thinking they're progressive but hold prejudices just as much as the next person
