Yuneec Typhoon G GoPro Quad Copter - The Gadget Guru's Easy Setup Guide

- While this is my fourth quad copter, it's my first that utilizes a GoPro camera.
Yes, three of the four copters I've owned incorporated cameras, but they were proprietary cameras and went from the box to the air in a relatively short period. In fact, other than the time required for battery charging, my Q500 4K went from the box to the air much quicker that my iPhones and in some respects, were a bit easier to get activated and up and running.
Considering that Yuneec has developed an excellent reputation for developing easy to setup and fly copters, I had no reason to expect anything different. But due to the fact the Typhoon G uses a GoPro Hero 4 camera and not one created specifically for a copter, the setup was much more complicated and required a Facetime call to Yuneec Tech Support for me to figure out how to complete the setup process.
So, I thought it would assist others by making a video that not only shows the easy steps, but focuses on the parts that could be a bit confusing to some owners.

Hi Andy, I am ordering my Yuneec Q500 tomorrow morning. I am also ordering another spare 5400mAh battery from a seperate supplier. Can you let me know the dimensions of the battery please? Reason for this, is that I want to buy seperate LiPO protection bags, rather than having one big bag. Or - is it fine to have multiple bats in the same bag for safety purposes? What's your thoughts? Thanks
Question My gimbal is lifeless on the drone and on the hand grip no power coming, what do you think the problem may be.

I have a Gopro 4 black sitting doing nothing so this is a great option as a quad. Yes shame the capture is not controlled from the transmitter but coming from a Phantom 2 I'm not fussed and I like the fact the video tx is included and osd too
Was considering the 3DR Solo but I have not been impressed with the jello shaky video I have seen and gimbal problems.
Hello Andy could you please tell me where you got the info about this Q500 G including a case and extra battery for $899. I ask because I just this q500 G at my local store yesterday and it is 899 but no case and no extra battery? ???

As soon as the error was realized, I was notified and the correction on the video was made. In the video in this post, you'll not see this error. I attempt to do my best to deliver the facts as best as possible.

I called YuneecUK and the Tech Support said..."Um... emm... I don't really know if the SJCAM is compatable or not. I've come to the conclusion, that it's not compatable. The SJCAM is slightly bigger, and the Gimble is designed for the GoPro, and it's a tight fit. If since your post, you've figured it out then cool, let me know.
I did notice that the SJCAM has a clamp style device, but it won't be compatable with the Gimble. So if you get the clamp device to fit, it will be a solid steady fixed position. I've managed to ge a hold of a Refurbished GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition for 175 quid from a GoPro supplier. Let me know how things went.

Terrible choice of color on the controller! Anything but plain black..... I first got interrestyed in the Typhoon, cuz the Euneek color of the controller.. WHITE is BEST...it looks PRO !!! and what happened to the travel case ??????
+Jamie Lee Personally, the color of the controller doesn't bother me as much as the color of the gimbal lock! In terms of the travel case, I'll guess it was a cost cutting measure to get this package to retail for less than $900. Yup, it's $899.99. The good news is that the case can be purchased separately.

Meanwhile though, if you get to talk to anyone at yuneec who makes decisions like these.. say marketing, or even the president... would you let them know that a lots of love the white transmitter.. but aside from cosmetic issues, we would really love a "G" model that will work with ANY camera.. similar to Go Pro.. and a set up that will work with goggle... may be a wire connection from transmitter to goggle.
