Fire Emblem is a Japanese fantasy tactical role-playing game franchise developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. First produced and published for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, the series currently consists of seventeen core entries and five spinoffs.
The core gameplay revolves around discrete battles between the player's team of characters and enemy non-player characters across grid-based maps. The player and enemy each take turns moving their characters across the map and having them perform combat-based actions. The games also feature a story and characters similar to traditional role-playing video games, and occasionally social simulation aspects as well. A notable aspect of gameplay is the permanent death of characters in battle, rendering them unusable upon being defeated, although this aspect of the game can be turned off starting from Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem onwards.
The series' title refers to the "Fire Emblem", a recurring element usually portrayed as a royal weapon or shield representing the power of war and dragons. The development of the first game began as a dōjin project by Shouzou Kaga and three other developers, and its success prompted the development of further games in the series. Kaga headed the development of each entry until the release of Thracia 776, when he left Intelligent Systems. He went on to found his own game studio, Tirnanog, who developed Tear Ring Saga.
The series debuted in the West with the seventh game The Blazing Blade in 2003, under the title Fire Emblem. According to the game's director, this was because of the international success of the similarly turn-based Advance Wars.[1] The inclusion of Marth and Roy in the 2001 fighting game Super Smash Bros. Melee as playable characters is also cited as a reason. Many games in the series sold well, although sales suffered a decline during the late 2000s. This resulted in the series' near-cancellation until the unprecedented critical and commercial success of Fire Emblem Awakening (2012). This success was built on by Fire Emblem: Three Houses (2019), the series' best-selling entry.
The series has been lauded for its gameplay and is frequently cited as the seminal series in the tactical role-playing genre, codifying various gameplay elements that would come to define the genre. Characters from across the series have been included in crossovers with other video game franchises, including the Super Smash Bros. series.

Are there any good links to download it so i could try for myself? looks pretty cool.
The last promise will always be impressive to me just for existing when very little else did
Maybe it is the nostalgia, but TLP will always have a special place in my heart. Not in small part because of your Lets Play.
I have high hopes for tommorow!
0:53 Around that point, I was thinking to myself for this dialogue : Shut up Man! Get to the Story!
2:02 Oh I will just go ahead and tell you: It definitely does not. Its still fun, and its still a good rom hack, especially considering what it is, but it by no means stands the test of time. Pretty much the only reason why its still a Top 5 FE hack is because of how little competition there is for that title. Like, that can't be understated, pretty much the only notable FE hacks to come out in the last few years are Legends of Avenir and, of course, Mangs' own Andaron Saga.
I think my problem with Last Promise was never how cheesy it was. It was how poorly designed the last couple of missions are. Particularly, you basically can't use Shon for roughly 4 out of 5 of them. The game is literally his story and about how he was maturing and becoming a strong knight like his father, and dealing with the shit that happens to his father, and then he pussies out and won't fight during the hardest parts of the game. Which is relevant because, assuming you do the secret stuff, he can be insanely powerful, being fairly close to Mr. Self-Insert Edgelord. It doesn't matter that Kelik is the literal embodiment of Coldsteel the Edgehog.
My personal grievances aside, its still a good hack. I don't know how familiar some of you maybe with the Kaizo Mario community, but TLP is basically the Storks, Apes, and Crocodiles of Fire Emblem ROM hacking. Storks was the first "Chocolate" rom hack, meaning it used custom sprites, levels, mechanics, that were not available in the base game, in the Kaizo Mario community, most hacks before it were "Vanilla" meaning they didn't use anything that couldn't be done in the original Super Mario World. Storks made people realize that, with the right amount of dedication, skill, and ingenuity, you could make a Mario Rom hack anything you wanted it to be which led directly to the two rom hacks that really broke open the "Chocolate" style: Invictus and Grand Poo World 2.
And I think that's what The Last Promise did for Fire Emblem Rom hacking. I have a bunch of hacks from that era, and most of the ones before Last Promise very rarely had original stories or characters. Or if they did, they just recycled characters or images from whichever FE game was used as the base for the hack. Like, people would just put Lyn's pic next to their OCs name basically. Its only real competition for awhile was Road To Ruin basically.
Faerghast's Legends of Avenir? His (still unfinished) hack is called Bloodlines. And Legends of Avenir afaik is also unfinished, at least the last post in its FEU thread says as much and considers it on indefinite hiatus until the devs find their 'motivation' again.
@@Abundy Ghast promoted it pretty heavily for awhile, so I figured he had something to do with it lol.
The only notable romhacks? What about Vision Quest, Drums of War, and Sacred Echoes? I’ve played a little bit of Vision Quest and Sacred Echoes; they seem to be high-quality.
Vision Quest, especially, seems to be highly rated by many.
@@zekdom I have only played Vision Quest and I'd say it was definitely pretty solid. Currently playing Order of the Crimson Arm, but definitely will get Last Promise at some point.
@@MH_Zard Yeah, I mean, there’s been a romhack renaissance in recent years. While Andaron Saga is my most played romhack - I think it’s an S-tier Fire Emblem game - I wouldn’t say it’s one of the **only** two notable romhacks.
It really can't be overstated just how truly impactful TLP was. While yes, in comparison to everything we have nowadays, it's certainly lacking. To say that TLP laid the ground work for a lot of the hacking scene today is absolutely true.
And c'mon, Kelik is SO damn edgy he loops back around to being fun.
Honestly the story having as much cringe as it does probably works in its favor. How many people actually talk about the story of rom hacks long after they've played them like they do with TLP? Also it was pretty long and actually finished with good gameplay at the time when most romhacks kind of sucked, so I'd say it was honestly pretty good all things considered.
Edgiest edgelord that ever WHAT!?
The last promise may be cringy, but by god does it have a heart, i can FEEL the love pumping into every second of this game.
To hell with the complaint about the cringy writing, a love-made game is worth a thousand souless ones.
When i was young, i played this hack not knowing it was a hack, as it was simply on the emulation platform romstation back then as a standalone game, i played FE7/8 after having played FE9/10 on Gamecube and Wii as i didn't own any of the fire emblem game on GBA.
I remember vividly thinking it was better than the other 2, then playing FE6 and thinking it was better than all of them.
The kid is a genius. He has all my respect. He as a teenager, drew better pictures, composed better music and knew a whole lot more about making games than 99.9% of the entire FE community now. I would never criticize his writing. Everyone understands that teenagers then were heavily influenced by japanese anime like Naruto and one piece.
Does his Kellik animation also made by himself? If it did then dude you were just a teenager back then and you created that kind of animation. It does edgy but hey I won't lie it does look cool and badass. And it was made by a SINGLE TEENAGER.
I demand that the Mangs reads the cutscenes.
If we're here to witness a cringefest then we should witness it in all of its glory!
I hope he can still do the Shon voice, he deserves no other.
Who cares, Andaron Saga has them all crushed
...kidding! I think TLP gets an unfair reputation. All the other ROMhackers were jealous that a project got finished :>
Short: Yes
Long: Yeeeeeeeeees
TLP did things that would get laughed at if people did it today.
But TLP does get a pass because it was the first ROM hack ever finished, and was made by a then-teenager.
It is under a Grandfather Clause now.
TLP is part of my trinity of favorite hacks/hacks that I recommend to people who are looking for new FE games. It is old AF and does show its age, but its dialogue and character designs and such have such a charm to me that I smile anytime I play it. And like you said, yeah Blazer was just a teen and made this entire thing BY HIMSELF! That's fucking insane and that should be a major inspiration to anyone who is trying to make a ROM hack. And that was during a time where ROMHacking was probably a figurative and literal Nightmare (get it?). I do come back to it occasionally and still find that charm in all of it, and when I first played it, it was kind of a real challenge and marvel of what people can do. I'm excited for the stream, and while this game has plenty of flaws (like any game), it is one that I treasure wholeheartedly alongside the more advanced hacks we have today.
After "Keklik" opened up his ether, he said, "Are you "The Last Promise" because you are "can handle all this weight."? Or are you "unfamiliar with this overwhelming power" because "Everything i feel is in this sword"?" The Gallagher simply answered "Nah, I'd teleport"
How much weight can you handle
Can you withstand the spirit of one who’s life has passed?
The weight of the burden of that death?
Weak souls succumb quickly to a strong spirt…
Strong ether is like a toxic to those whose bodies and minds are unfamiliar to such overwhelming power...
Kain, just for a moment, grant me that power…!
"How much weight... can you handle?" still sends chills down my spine to this very day
I don’t care what anyone says this is one of the hardest lines in fire emblem, up there with Ephraims “ I don’t pick fights I can’t win”
First time seeing it and the dialogue was genuinely great. I think i think the toxin part onward was unnecessary and i can see the cheese, but those first 4 text boxes were great!
@@iSearchRUclips The sonic the hedgehog music playing also just elevates it to another level
Seeing as most Myrmidons and Swordmasters get weighed down by Steel Weapons, it's an important question.
The problem is that the Divine lightning pierces my chest
I'll still always laugh my ass off whenever I hear Kelik's theme play in the game but overall I remember having a lot of fun with it. Ironmanning Rom Hacks is always something I wanted to see.
ive seen worse writing than "that" scene in official fire emblem games so...
Oh no, I have to get up early for work the day after....
Sleep is for the weak
Yes, and it's still fun to play despite the flaws that it has.
As someone who tried “creative writing”, throughout there youth to no success I can’t be mad or disappointed for a second at the last promise.
There are B movie producers and B video makers who sell stuff for real money that is worse than last promise.
I’d go so far as to say there are AAA movies and games that are written worse than Last Promise.
It had voice acting, which no matter what you think of it is a unique thing to it, and it also had a unique post game even if the last map for it wasn’t finished. It wouldn’t set the world on fire compared to some hacks today, but it definitely set a standard and a tone for a lot of larger scale hacks today to build on. I’ll never forget the Tactics Universe days.
THIS DIVINE LIGHTNING SHALL PIERCE THE SKY
THIS DIVINE LIGHTNING SHALL PIERCE THE SKY
THIS DIVINE LIGHTNING SHALL PIERCE THE SKY
THIS DIVINE LIGHTNING SHALL PIERCE THE SKY
THIS DIVINE LIGHTNING SHALL PIERCE THE SKY
Also, when TLP came out, the romhacking scene was much mor earchaic compared to today. Heck, from what I remember, even REPLACING ONE CHAPTER was considered a large feat as most romhacks were mostly FE7 remakes with different characters. Might remember this wrong, though.
One thing I loved about TLP is that the Armor Knight you get is actually really useful Kevin is the true MVP.
The Last Promise is one of the best if only because of how big, ambitious and good it is despite having been made by a bored teenager who didn't even had access to modern shit like FEbuilder.
Also Kelik character's development is great, fight me
I don't wanna,cause I completely agree with you
people who call things cheesy these days tend to just hate wholesome and nice, though i never played it, im just too used to hearing the term cheesy, now bad cheese puns those are "Cheesy" lol, end my life, I might go fr the ROMs since original games like FE7 doesn't let you start with hard mode like sacred stones and up does
I actually own a physical, GBA copy of this lol. I enjoyed it in all of its edgy, over-written dialog. I love the scarce voice acting.
If I were the Devisian Knights, I would simply handle the weight.
The story is still less cringe than Engage.
> ridiculed for an incredibly cheesy story and the moments like this
Proceeds with moment which is written and directed better than most of main story events in the latest official FE game.
yeah and it's not like FE and JRPGs in general have great stories.
Or even modern FE ROMs.
My brother in christ that was the most cringest and pretentious moments i've ever seen
It is truly written by a teenager
@@hedgehogpower194still better than Engage writing.
@@control9lcme in these both games EVERY character kiss the protag's boots so idk what to tell you dawg

Good luck to you mangs
One of the first roms i have played, sometimes story is pretty "cringe" I would say, but it remains in my heart as one of best roms and how cool it was that time when I completed it. ("May divine lightning shall pierce the sky's" - legend Siegfried).
I remember trying this one when it was called "Tactics universe" and then picked up again when it became "The last promise". The hack for its time was pretty good, gotta give the kid credit for that. The bashing that it gets its undeserved.
Mangs, this video not just unlocked a memory. Do you remember the Midnight Sun hack? It actually came out as an original game about 2 years ago, it's called Path of the Midnight Sun and is a really nice indie RPG that you should play or stream sometime in the future.
^ This right here. I was so glad to see it resurface, and it was well worth the wait.
Before the AI voice thing I guess. The game was pretty fun. I finished it years ago. I also enjoyed the last post game content where you could recruit a bunch of folks. I hope the author gets to watch the video or stream himself or herself.
Never heard of this until 2016 but this game open the door for me to a world I did not know existed: "Fire Emblem Rom Hacks!"
The corniness makes it better imo, you can feel that it is genuine, sincere and not afraid of mockery, love a game that takes itself a bit seriously
Gotta respect anyone willing to blast solaris phase 2 without a shred of irony.
"The present, the here and now you've stolen, IT'S TIME TO TAKE IT BACK!"
Oh yes. I recently beat it and I always forget this HAS A POST GAME, which is a little bit bonkers even today haha. It's dated, but enjoyable because of all what TLP means to Fire Emblem.
Yes, it does, I replay The Last Promise every once in a while, I unironically like it more than the whole Gba trilogy and Kelik and Anakin are both top tier Fire Emblem lords.
My hand is already gone before even watching the stream.
This was made before FE Builder was available, the effort involved must have been insane.
The answer is Yes
This was the ROM Hack that make me start playing FE ROMS. I saw a YTube video of "This Divine Lightning shall fierce the skyes!" And I was: What cool!!! Have to play it. Most guys give it make fun of those voices but, after so many Rom Hacks played, I still think that is awesome! And I enjoy it a lot that game!
Tomato magic killing the Devisian knights will always be peak cinema
As long as it's fun and competently made, having edgelord characters is fine.
Simple answer: Yes
I have a fun story about this game - during boarding high school, I wasn’t given consistent computer access, and especially download access, so couldn’t play this on emulator. So, I was actually able to get a cartridge for my DS Lite, which *was* allowed. It crashed a couple times, the autosave system worked so poorly that quicksaves to Resume Chapter were just save states so the last few actions could be reverted to an earlier turn, and in the 72-turn capture chapter attempting to seize did nothing so I got softlocked. But it was still a hell of a lot of fun.
So yeah, am looking forward to this, have a lot of fond memories.
TLP is so cringe and edgy that it actually loops back to being to coolest thing ever!
I really wanna know whats happening with Amon and Mortimer's kid i hope the sequel to andaron saga comes out soon
me as well
me and my friends referred to this game as "Blazer's wild ride". the storytelling may be a bit stale and maybe a tad bit cringe, but the map design and the custom weapons and sprites are honestly fantastic. I think it definitely stands the test of time.
Could you do GhebFE afterwards?
Pls this
I can't remember what playthough it was but Mangs said he'd do GhebFE at 1 mill subs. He also said no one will remember he said that.
@@DisplayThisOkay Probably because there's no way the FE fanbase would ever allow Mangs to reach 1 million subs lol.
“Everything I feel is in this sword” Raw, unfiltered Cringekino. Unlike a certain recent Fire Emblem.
this guy gets it
I have a soft spot in my heart for projects that the devs were clearly incredibly passionate about, say what you want about the story or characters, but this kid obviously just loved FE and making the game almost single handedly with very few outside resources to help is just plain admirable. From the little I've seen it looks VERY charming.
I would like to know what are the top5 rom racks in mangs opinion. Can u do a video or just answer my question @mangs?
I have no qualms with TLP and have been slowly playing through it the last year.
At least Kelik can back up his words by being the undeniably strongest unit in the game to the extent you have like a 50% chance for him to either outright kill a boss or leave them so low your other units can mop up easy by midgame.
Some bosses get so tuned up that he is the only character that doesn't get doubled.
I am in the middle of my own playthrough and they sure do tune up these bosses lol, everyone is a speed demon including the literal generals lmao. I am on the huge 72 turn limit siege map atm, have put it off for a while but will eventually get to clearing it.
i was Hoping for a GBA fire emblem stream for so long, and at long last, THE TIME HAS COME
When I was 14 i was still eating dog ahit off the sidewalk and this mf made an entire game
you were doing WHAT?
Look man you dont get this high a defense stat just sitting around with your thumb up your ass thats all Im sayin
What the fuck
My man lived by the saying ass to grass for those sweet juicy muscle gains but took the eat shit too literally.
Amen
It's poorly written, poorly coded, and the map design is generally kinda bad, but somehow, it's just fun. That's all that matters to me. It's really good at giving what a lot of people want out of FE.
Sad to see that the sequel has probably been cancelled.
I still haven't beaten it, I usually stop in that tower chapter where most of the enemies have Lethality. School is almost over so maybe I'll have to play it, as well as a bunch of other FE ROM hacks like Andaron Saga.
The fact that this Hack is a decade old is insane to think about. "I'M OLD!!"
The Last Promise in my opinion instantly becomes a great hack just by having Naruto music, I love it lol
Keilk is such an edgelord.. Even the word cool is less cooler than Kelik
It's a classic of its time, I think it defined a lot of future projects.
I didn't even know that some people seriously thought it was a bad ROM. Even if one doesn't like it today, it's still an extremely impressive hack for its time and a classic.
Me thinking of what FE game to play next:
Remembers and boots up TLP yesterday
Sees Mangs Vid today about TLP
“Join me tomorrow in a TLP Iron Man….”
The universe is speaking to me.
I'm still waiting for Mangs to play the "Code of the Black Knights Decisive Edition" full GBA hack. Awesome plot and soundtrack are in 😊
This game is similar to Pokemon Snakewood. Weird difficulty and pacing, but full of memorable moments. And some clever level designs too.
480p for the true 2012 experience lol
I don't know if the hack is good... but we'll see tomorrow.
I dont care what anyone thinks Kelik is awesome
Yes.
My proof: Weedlord Anakin
that's all, he's the best, end of discussion
A good start i would say
Glad to hear you give it a go! Maybe this could continue with other romhacks (like Order of the Crimson Arm or Eligor's Spear).
On the matter of The Last Promise:
I don't care if it's cringe, as a kingdom hearts fan I'm used to it, and it is imo a good game.
Also, I have nothing but respect for the creator, he didn't just start making a romhack and said "I'm bored/tired" or "It's too hard", no, that guy just said "I have started this, I'm finishing it" and I am glad he did.
Glad your playing rom hacks again mango
2:14 I always think siegfried sounds a little drunk when I hear that line play aha
Who better to cringe with than the 🥚?
I stand by TLP remaining as one of the greats of romhacks. Is it of the same level of quality of expertise as modern hacks such as Black Knights, Andaron Saga or DLatMoL? No. But it is an important piece of Fire Emblem romhack history.
What is the full name of the DLatMol hack?

TLP was a fun romp with not too much changed from what made the FE Gba games so loved. Is it perfect? Hell no. But thats almost the exact reason why people love the GBA fe games, they're fun as hell to break open and try new stratagems with.
Units are more unique, sprites are more animated, and the few bits of voice acting are extremely memorable.
If anything, I just consider this the 4th gba FE game, for how much stuff it does without feeling like a whole different game.
I like for you to Ironman vision quest since last I check you play it, however at the time you did it is was not finish and I would for you to see to begining to the end (though it has a lot of chapters)
The last promise is goated
The Last Promise 2 when?
As someone who does a lot of writing, Last Promise’s writing is cringy, cheesy, and sometimes downright idiotic at times but it’s not the worst thing ever. From what I remember, I was fine with the story until Lahar showed up. And also City of Lies. Anakin lost like, half of his IQ points in that chapter for some reason, lmao.
Kelik is edgy but not too bad a character, just a bit cringy sometimes. The weight speech gets joked about a lot but compared to other monologues I’ve seen, it’s not too bad. The latter half suffers a bit but the first half is interesting, if not a bit cheesy.
And the plot could use a better inciting incident. It kinda seems stupid that a whole war started because some foreign people got sick and died and accidentally spread it to you. It doesn’t feel like a real motive, especially when you compare it to the reason real life wars begin, like the World Wars.
But all in all, people have different tastes. It’s up to you.
If you think about it, Last Promise grammar and amateurish English writing is reminiscent of most PS1, retro JRPGs localization. So if someone try to rewrite them, it will lost its charm, just like FF7R, Tactics Ogre Reborn, War of Lions kinda lost their charm.
@@brianstanley1568 It's always something like "so bad it's good!" or "the shittiness is part of the charm!" with this, isn't it? It's time to grow up, old man.
