I may have been living in America, but was raised the Jamaican (Caribbean) way. I had a healthy fear of her growing up. My school never called the house because of bad behavior. My mother knew where I was at all times. It was expected of me to come straight home from school. When I was in private school, I started ironing my uniform at around seven or eight years old. I had to clean my room, do homework on time and wash dishes. These children live too free, they don't have any manners, respect for themselves or others. They don't have any chores, homework is rarely checked, and their mouth run up too much. A former co-worker of mine told me that her big ten year old doesn't make his bed and doesn't throw out the garbage. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. How is it that a ten year old boy does not know how to make his bed. I said to her my mother had me doing that since I was around six years old. How much energy does it take to do that? When we lived in an apartment building she used to make walk to the incinerator. She would watch me to make sure I was okay. I feel sorry for this generation.
