The clip couldn't show the best from Stoichkov. That was his character, he was a dog, a match winner. Loyal to a fault, never injured, always there besides the occasional ban for fighting :) Also he was robbed of the Golden Ball in 1992. Legend says a bulgarian journalist voted against him cause Hristo was from CSKA and the reporter was supporting their archrivals from Levski.
Its good to know that not messi the hero of barca is the real hero its Hristo Stoichkov i can imagine how as a kid Stoichkov has played just like all of us and now he haves better skills than messi
He's one of the big names of Barcelona for sure...but to compare him to the status of Messi is nothing sort of stupid, I'm sorry. Messi will go down as the best player ever to kick a football. Stoitchkov was a world class winger but nowhere in the same league as Messi.
Stoitchkov was quite taller, higher center of gravity. I'd say he was a bit faster in a straight run, but not by much, and only without the ball (with the ball at his feet Messi is the fastest player ever, period). Much stronger upper body too. He was a good dribbler and passer but he had nothing near the dribbling ability nor creative ability Messi has. Also he had some serious anger management issues on the pitch. Stoitchkov was a hell of a player (one of my idols when I was a teenager) but Messi is just leagues ahead of him and no, they're not a similar style like, at all.

Im also bulgarian and hristo stoichkov would have won all of these 3 trophies the balloon door he won it the champions league he also won it and was so close to bring the world cup to Bulgaria
He should have one more Ballon D'or. He got robbed of one that was awarded to van Basten when he was CLEARLY superior that year (van Basten was already badly ailing from his ankle and it showed). So he should have two for sure. But the world cup? With Bulgaria?. I'm sorry, that team was good (heck of an offense with Penev and him for sure) but was not WC winner level. They actually overachieved getting a 3rd spot in '94, and that was mostly because of Stoitchkov. But one player can't win a WC on his own (you can ask Messi about that), and there's no way in earth that Bulgaria could've won against Romario's Brazil. Simple as that.
@@ramjb we beat argentina, germany, france, and also it wasn't just penev and him. There were balakov, lechkov, kostadinov, our goalie mihailov. We got to 3rd place not just because of stoichkov. And btw messi has a good team. Aguero, dybala, di maria, etc.
@@РосицаАлексиева-и7ь You talk about Balakov, Lechkov or Kostadinov as if they were some kind of big stars. They were not. Kostadinov played for Porto by 1994. Four years there, played a grand total of little more than a hundred games for them. Decent striker, little more. Lechkov played on some european 2nd rate clubs (Hamburg, Besiktas, etc). Quality player, but not exactly a Ballon'd'Or contestant level. Balakov is the same story (played for Stuttgart IIRC?). Good player but nothing outwordly. None of those guys (nor anyone else in that squad) was top flight level other than Stoitchkov and (to a lesser degree) Penev. They had respectable careers, they were good players in average european clubs, but there's no possible narrative of "it wasn't just stoitchkov and penev". It was a World Cup Final Stage on the knock-out rounds. At that level being just a good player doesn't cut it, you need a collection of stars in order to compete in equal conditions. And Bulgaria only had two.

Absolute legend
Memories............
Can someone explain to me why his name is spelled differently on his kit at 0:26?
I think at the time both English/Latin spellings - tch and ch - were considered correct. Bulgaria uses the Cyrillic alphabet.
I am a Bulgarian too but when I knew about him
Най великия таран на света кама
Who came here after efootball 😅
No soy aguafiestas pero Ronaldinho y Messi son unicos
I love Stoichkov but all i saw is blur....
why was his name spelled Stoitchkov on his jersey at barcelona?
Most of the time, there was no names on the backs of jerseys back then. Not at the club level.
why not?
Stoitchkov era um em um milhão. Pena que ele era da Bulgária.
CSKA SOFIA legend
🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬!
I met him in the airport
@@ramjb yea but italy got 2 penalties and the ref was for them.
@@ramjb still beat france, germany, argentina etc. Balakov was playing in leverkusen too (they were one of the top clubs in germany) and you say penev and stoichkov played at a decent club! Stoichkov- barca and penev- atletico madrid.
🇧🇬🐐
3:11 so desperate
Looked like Andy Garcia, but played better that him :-)
think it' pretty simular to Gareth Bale's playing-style... or really... the other way around
Check Martin Petrov. He was Gareth Bale before Gareth Bale :)
