  • Doing the timing belt on the Chevy Aveo is not so bad worst part is how Chevy decided to put a cover in front of the water pump to make it difficult. But this video will guide you through the timing belt replacement.

    so, i love how you avoided exactly how to deal with the tensioner, as its the hardest part

  • @Burn377
    @Burn377 8 лет назад +4

    That moment when you don't tighten an engine mount bolt tight enough it works loose and drops into the belt going down the highway -.- Also the correct way to set the belt tension is by first aligning the point on the tensioner with the further most notch on the back plate. Rotate the engine twice then relieve tension till both points line up.

  • @freedomlibertyspirit9782
    @freedomlibertyspirit9782 8 лет назад +1

    preciate the pointer on the tensioner points lining up, that was a big help. thanks that was a great video

    The back timing cover doesn't need to be removed nor do the cam sprockets. The back timing cover can be bent upwards enough that you can remove and install the water pump without having to remove the cam sprockets or back cover. And you're suppose to evenly distribute the tension on the belt by running the mark on the tensioner to "C" then turn the crank twice to align the timing, then run the tensioner back to "B" and again, crank engine twice to align timing.

    The timing belt broke on my 2007 Aveo and the valves were bent and pistons marked where the valves hit. I bought a new set of valves and ground them in then compressed the springs with clamp and a home made device from a piece of galvanised pipe. I bought the new belt along with a water pump and other stuff. I had to make the special tool to turn the water pump because I couldn't buy one. The job is not easy, you have to take your time and get it right but when it was done the engine runs like a sewing machine.

    Good to do water pump and timing belt because they're all in the area and preventative maintanence parts at 100K. Supposed to be anyhow. Until one breaks at 170K you'd see why its preventative.

    My daughter heard a very slight band and then she said it sounded like all the air was being let out of her tire. Within a block she was able to get off the road and park the car. It turned out to be antifreeze that had sprayed around the passenger tire and had left a trail but not around the radiator itself (left a trail for a short period but then the trail stopped, yet her reservoir isnt empty). Would a bad water pump cause this? I didnt see any disconnected hoses and the engine oil didn't look like it had water mixed in it. Any advise would be Great!!!

    Remember when your timing was off: - loosen nut below distributor cap, turn slightly left/right until sounded right, tighten nut, go on your way-. Your grandmother could do it while you were having a smoke and a beer with your kids in the car. Chev/dodge/ford have been making cars for over 100 years and there is absolutely no excuse for this kind of stuff to be happening to the power plant of their vehicles (let alone most of what happens to them).

    • @Ka_Gg
      @Ka_Gg 2 года назад

      That's ignition timing, not cam timing. A bit different.
      This would be the equivalent of moving a few accessories, removing the fan/water pump, crank pulley and then taking off the timing cover behind that and lining up the crank and cam pulleys on the older cars.
      Yes, things were easier back then.

    its not a chevy engine, nor did chevy have anything to do with the make. Chevy don't even make small engines at all. this is a daewoo engine that GM bought from daewoo in Korea in 2001. Then later became GM Korea. Just about every small engine now days comes from GM Korea.

    Advice! Buy the 41MM Water Pump tool.. Who ever decides to do this job.. also get a impact.. no need to take off top 2 spockets.. you can pull the plastic piece away enough to get the water pump out... I had to do this because I did not have an impact to take off the cam gears, the impact I had was electric and was too long.. Note don't forget the gasket on top; cover.. forgot and made it longer than i had too... Get the 41MM tool! Hope I bleed the coolant right.. any tips on that? Anyone?

      Jimmy S I just replace the waterpump.. ran it around hoping it would be okay.. it started over heating again.. I need to check the thermostat if not just take it out.. but i did notice that the coolant resevior is leaking from the seams.. could this be causing the system to fail.. I would also like to see if im getting well over 15psi in system if thats the case.. well.. engine drama..but.. the gremlin is still in the system. the system remain stable when I have the heaters running full blast..

      Does not leak in the morning only after the coolant reaches boiling point.. I don't have pressure tester.. will need to rent one for autozone and there is no check engine light..but i need to check again... i may need a coolant cap.. its leaking at the seems of the coolant resevior.. but its late.. I'll have to check again on Tues.. tommorrow too busy.

      I've done all my work on my Aveo and I have no formal training. I buy tools when I need and learn from research. I've worked on all 4 cars I've owned from compressing suspension springs to change strut mounts (that's a not a job for the faint of heart), calipers, rotors, inner and outer ball joints, valve covers, timing belts, fuel filters, resonator, exhaust, all sorts of sensors, water pumps and pulleys, alternators (not fun on the Aveo)... I have yet to mess something up. Though I am meticulous about my organization, research and methods. I've learned a wealth of information applicable to many applications beyond cars, and I consider myself a an average joe. It's just that some people "do" while most "don't".
