- I lost some of footage while doing a swap from hard drive to hard drive and this is what I was left with. I hope I was still able to help you guys out.
This applies to the following vehicles:
2004-2008 Chevrolet Aveo
Holden Barina
Great video man.in Australia it’s called a Holden Barina.if you put that in your heading you’ll get plenty more views.i could not find an Australian Barina timing belt replacement video . Great work man ,thanks
Steve Self Thank you I'll look to adding that soon.
Steve Davis Just up load the same video with the Holden Barina title and make $$$
What I like about this video? This guy doesn't talk too much like all the others who talk too much and explain very little, I consider this guy a master mechanic.
For everyone with a Daewoo Lanos this is the same process but a few external parts (engine mount & power steering pump) are in different locations. I wanted to say thank you for how high quality this video is and how amazing of a help this was!!!!!
Put my timing belt two days ago , this video helped me to do the job. When I ordered my belt and water pump with roller and tensioner , I forgot to order the special tool to rotate the water pump, and couldn't find one in auto stores .so I had to make my own with a 1/4 inch plate . The size is 41mm ,so I made mine to 1 inch and 5/8 . Perfect . Job done . Thank you Steve for the tutorial.👍
Great video! Never changed a timing belt before and I was a bit nervous to do it. Your video explained it perfectly and I was able to do the job without a problem. Thanks man! I appreciate the help.
No problem any time
Excellent video, Steve! I'm getting ready to do my fourth timing belt in my Aveo (5th overall, 300k) and I still watched this vid as a refresher. Excellent quality!
Another tip I picked up from someone else is to mark the belt to the sprocket (If belt was in tact and transfer over the marks, old belt to new belt) Just another failsafe to ensure proper alignment. . .
I remember the first one I did, the info about tightening the belt to the notch, turning it over two rotations, then backing it off to the arrow wasn't readily available online, or made clear in the instructions that came with the replacement. . . I agonized for hours what was the correct point to line it up with, before I found the answer in some obscure place. . .
Thanks again for a great video!
I'm glad to see someone so thorough while explaining the steps to this job! Nice work ☺️ I appreciate the small details...but DAMN there's a ton of steps 🤦🏼♀️
Excellent instructional video, one of the best i'v seen and i'v seen a few. Great stuff. Chevy Aveo in the USA and Holden Barina in my country Australia. Same engine. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thank you for your video it helped me out a lot when it came down to my water pump I had to use a multi tool to cut it out. It was stuck like you wouldn't believe
How exactly did you cut it out? Mine is stuck like cement. It doesnt budge
@@domls1317 I took my car to the chevy dealership and they said they're having the same problem so they arent gonna be able to do it. I'm planning on doing it myself but haven't decided how yet. If you ended up figuring that out I'd really appreciate any tips
@@westonhardowin1051 it was seized because of water corrosion. I ended up having to take a 2x4 and hammer to hit it on top and bottom with an outward motion with the help of my stepdad. We were hitting it simultaneously. It took a few minutes but it came out.
Excellent video Steve, appreciate you posting it. Still helpful for people in 2021!
Thanks for the video, man! Very helpful!
Very helpful video, you make it look so easy and great advice about the water pump wrench, It's the most clear video for our Barina. Thanks.
Thank you for taking the time to do this. Just wrapped this up on my girlfriend's 04 Aveo. -Cheers
Best video so far showing how it done not telling but showing
Thanks Steve! I'll have the confidence to do this now. (41mm tool on order).
I have that engine on my Daewoo Nubira SW in Portugal. I've done the timing belt twice. Same as here.
There is one thing I did different, that could ease the instalation of the new belt. Before removing the old one I've put a mark in it that goes to the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets.
I've passed those marks to the new one. When installing, I only have to align those marks. I don't have to worry if the camshafts are not aligned. As long as the marks on the belt and the sprockets are are aligned, you are OK.
The first time I did this, the belt did a valley beetwen the camshaft sprockets. As soon I put tension, everything aligned.
You just saved me so much money thank you hope you keep posting more videos so informative. God bless
For anyone looking for the waterpump tool. It is a normal 41mm crowfoot wrench. got mine from an auto parts store for 20 bucks, brand "Lisle". the 'j 42492' part number is GM's specialty tool number, but it is literally just a bog standard crowfoot wrench. i saw some amazon reviews saying their 41mm was more like a 42mm so be warry of amazon...
This is a very good vid! I may have to do this job for a customer, and this will make it so much easier.
Thanks for doing it!
Todd Boyer Np glad I could help 😎
Got one of these for a customer and like knowing what I'm headed into thanks bro
Thanks Steve, Fantastic video, very easy to understand!
Rene Anduray Glad I was able to help.
Good video. I did this job a few years back when I bought my Aveo. The “special tool” I swear is just mean to anyone trying to fix their own car and save a few bucks. The person that owned my car originally fabricated the tool. When I hit my road block I asked him how he got the water pump loose. He handed me his man made wrench. I’ll be using it for the second time.
This video was a great refresher for me. Plus marking the sprocket in the middle is something I did not do and spent about an hour figuring out how to get it back into position.
Thanks again for taking the time to make a video.
Kenny Bernard You're welcome
Dude you are incredible good at it...excellent
Thanks for the video, you helped me a bunch !
18 inch pipe wrench works just fine.
Awesome video
I just gotta say this video clip is the most thorough on RUclips. You make the whole process so clear, I gotta thank you for this man.
I can see the benefit now of getting the tool for the water pump. Again really helpful bro.
I have a 2011 Aveo water pump the change, looking at your video, it looks like a good idea to change the pulley tensioner and timing belt if need be.
Did draining the power steering fluid make things easier or could it be left in situ?
I was thinking of taking the aveo to a technician but after watching your video, I am confident it is something I could do.
Is it essential to have the impact tools to remove pulley bolts or can it be done with standard, non-impact tools?
Thanks again man for taking time to share this vid with us all.
Andy
No problem brother, glad I could help! The tool makes the job very very easy, with the right tools the job can be done in 2-3 hrs tops. Yes, the power steering line has to be removed so the upper timing cover can come off. It's not a complete "flush" but it is helpful to the system. Save yourself time and money, you can do this job at home, the crankshaft pulley bolt can be removed pretty simple with regular tools as well, you have to find something to stop the pull from moving i.e screw driver, flat bars, crow bar etc. Good luck man, let me know how it turns out.
to anyone watching this in the future. that crankshaft pulley at the bottom helps retain the timing belt.
Glad you got it before it popped.
Thanks SCS!
Well done. Thank you. Thank you.
that's what up FAM 💯💯👍🏿👍🏿
good job ! very well done..
Could you please show us on Chevrolet Cruse 2012-2016, 16V E-TECH II ENGINE?
Hey bro... how do I change the timing sprocket behind the harmonic balancer wheel?
The key on it got rubbed down. I need to replace it. Is thier a tool I need? If you could help me sir Il owe you 1,000 favors. And I do mean that. God Bless you n yours.
I pray you see this.
How do keep the cam alignment marks on both sprockets and crankshaft mark in place when tensioning the water pump with the belt on,my marks constantly move when tightening the belt and move out of alignment is there any tips to keep the marks aligned when tightening the belt??
Good deal Kay Williams!!
Ha
شكرا لك أحسنت
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Hello, at 14.31 in the video, the belt protrudes a little on the upper shaft and you push it back with your hand in the video. In my own vehicle, this protrusion occurs after turning the belt 2 full turns. I did not trust starting the vehicle in this way. Do you do anything extra or did you start the engine directly after pushing it with your hand? thanks.
Haha this is me with the bone thugs in the background 🤣
how did you get the crankshaft bolt off so easy without turning the motor?
Good very good!!
thanks this helps
Timing belts are so easy!. Just mark everything
I think you also could easily just make that tool for the water pump.
when replacing the pump, the marks on the camshaft went astray, and the crankshaft is on the mark, how to set the camshaft now if you can’t turn it for bliss
Awesome job is there a torque to the timing belt or just tighten it up
I was wondering when doing the timing belt and tensioner would there be any reason to take the head of Engine off?
Smart kid ...wow !
Chia sẻ cách thay dây curoa cam xe chervolet rất hay ,thank you
In all the video's online for this same job, I am not seeing anyone set the #1 piston at top dead center! Can you please measure between the 2 posts of that clawfoot & tell me what size it is please? They want. $40-50....
Hi mate how's it going I have gotta do a Barina TK same as you in this video and I'm just wondering would u have the online manual like your reading on paper
Are both arrows on the tensioner always suppose to stay aligned even when the engine runs or do the arrows lose alignment when the engine runs?
I had to bump start engine to get harmonic balancer bolt off, once the pulley was off, I reinstalled the bolt, but could only manually turn crankshaft so far, before it got stuck. Any way to get the crankshaft unstuck so I can manually turn engine and line up the timing marks?
Nice video.
Thank brother glad I could help 👊🏽
The timing belt of my aveo get worn and after the mechanic fix it my aveo consume a lot of gas why is it
dam bro you be working 💪🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒🖒
robb black 💯 This old I just did all the editing yesterday.
robb black just about to say I thought it was gone
black 85 Yeah she gone with the wind. It's coming back for a system soon tho.
When adjusting the water pump to get the slack out, at that point is the tensioner bolts loose???
No only the water pump.
Hey Steve, I'm getting ready to do the timing belt on my 06 Aveo. Was it very had to remove and replace the camshaft sprockets? Did you use any special tool? What was the torque specs to re-install them. Thanks in advance and again congratulations on an amazinly detailed video.
Nothing was hard to remove, I didn't have torque specs. I just tightened them to what seemed like enough
Steve, Realy appreciate your advice. And thank you for your service!
Good video! Do you have a link to the print out that you were using?
I actually do, but I'm deployed.
I understand. Thank you for your service.
Whats the part number for the waterpump to tighting it for the tensioner?
I heard people saying you don't have to change the water pump if water pump still works don't touch it
Couple questions, did you just use the belt to hold the cams in place while you loosened the bolts on the cam sprockets? And same for tightening them? Also, were both the bolts on the cam sprockets right hand tightened? i/e you turned clockwise to tighten and counter clockwise to loosen? Thanks
Rob Anicich
Normal threads.i used an impact.probably not the way the book would do but they have a tool to hold the cams so u can get at it with a ratchet.I just watched this video this evening and did one early for the first time and yes that water pump to is worth every dollar i had to bend a fan clutch 🔧
would u happen to know we're the fill plug is at on a manual transmission 04 Chevy aveo
Not sure without seeing it, I flushed an automatic one.
Where did you purchase that water pump tool?
How long does this timing belt kit take to put one on?
What if the belt is broken?
Replied
The water pump on my aveo is stuck already tried the 40mm wrench WD 40 and is still stuck! Any tips or tricks on how to get it out?
kanabis heat possibly
@@SteveDavisCarGuy ill try that thanks
On the tensioner with the two pieces u have to line up after everything is tight is it so pose to settle an not line up by an 8th inch after running the car
If my timing belt broke what then?
You’ll need the cylinder heads rebuilt. This is a preventative maintenance video. You’re past that. Probably cheaper to just get a used motor.
What they call tool name in eBay ?
Can you plz let me know
How much do you charge to fixed the timing belt ?
JASSY DIAZ I buy and sell, just did it because I know they will break and cause trouble. If I were to charge it would be 150-200 range.
Steve Davis ohk and how much would charge me if I bought the parts and you put them for me ? How much would it be
Can you please measure that water pump tool & tell me how big/wide it is please?
41mm
Why doesn't anyone show taking the cam sprockets off????
Ok but why do we have to remove the cam gears???
Which brand of kit you bought?
Was your car a manual or automatic? Ive been trying to get the crankshaft pully off but it keeps spinning and wont come out.
Stan Laudon auto
@@SteveDavisCarGuy Did you use a special tool to get it off? Thanks
Can you please share the ebay link to order that water pump tool.
Search "J-42492" the average on eBay is 50ish at the moment, it may be cheaper on Amazon.
That specialty tool is useless. Giant Adjustable Pliers for the save.
Why didn't you need a cam gear holder. Trying to line my cam pulleys back up and they don't want to stay lined up..smh
What document were you following? Is there a link to it?
Andrew Nash no link, it was alldata.
Sir where did you get your sevice repair manual?
That was from alldata but you can get a Chiltons or Haynes from Autozone
Torque for water pump
Always cranks pulley bolt make problem when you take off even with electric screwdriver sometime do you need use welding machine
How long did it take you total?
Could be done in a day
With all the tools
Cómo hago yo pongo el carro en tiempo y no me prende es un Aveo 2005
Wilfredo Infante If you translate this to English I can answer the question.
@@SteveDavisCarGuy translation of comment above: what should I do? I put the car timing belt on time but does not turn on?
I do the same shit
Good job bro i cant believe they made it that complicated with that huge cover and stupid water pump design... for the worst piece of crap car you can buy.. not even worth doing a timing belt job on this scrap metal
