    AEW Exploding Ring Wire Death match is the best example. The ending should have been the best thing of the whole ppv, but instead we got sparklers and not alot else and it was ridiculed quite rightly as being an absolute disaster and a huge letdown for the fans

    • @williamsmith666
      @williamsmith666 Год назад +8

      But the exploding ring death match is also the perfect analogy to AEW as a whole; all build up, no substance, shit pay off. Thats why they'll never be a main contender in the long run.

    • @nicholasokeefe3632
      @nicholasokeefe3632 Год назад +2

      @William Smith I wouldn't really say that. They're already contending better than anyone else could. The problem with the exploding barbed wire match is the fact that you can't blow someone up on TV, and people legitimately wanted to see that. AEW picks bad ideas to do because they want to make the fans happy, but the hardcore fans of AEW will never be happy unless someone dies or gets injured.

      @TheOneWhoReportsForDuty. They had to come up with something, because they didn’t want either Rey Mysterio or Sabu to lose. They didn’t want Rey to lose because Sabu as world champion would’ve been ridiculous, and they didn’t want Sabu to lose because they wanted to keep him strong to face Cena.
      So that’s why.

      I still don’t think that would’ve helped Roman though. They already tried shoving him down everyone’s throats as a babyface, and we know how that worked. I can almost guarantee having him beat one of the most beloved superstars of all time and end his undefeated streak would do much to endear him with fans. Maybe if they’d already had him heel at the time…but even then idk. I feel like at that time, Brock wasn’t a bad choice. Everyone else didn’t want to break the streak.

Some big options just missing (e.g. the Rollins vs. Wyatt Hell in a Cell match from the 2019 PPV of the same name which saw a referee stoppage, the ending to Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega's Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch that tried to sell sparklers as explosions or Owen Hart vs. Steve Austin at Summerslam 1997 where Owen broke Austin's neck) while there are matches on the list that don't really fit the premise. Orton vs. HHH didn't have a terrible ending since Orton's bad selling of his injury occured during the match, and Malenko vs Benoit didn't end horribly, either, it just suffered from a crowd full of people that didn't care about wrestling.

    10) I get that people wanted to have a clean finish, but they were kind of booked into a corner here. Shawn couldn't drop the title because he was supposed to drop it to Vader and do that whole deal (which ultimately became Sid as those plans changed) and Mankind couldn't lose because he had just gotten two wins over Undertaker on PPV and needed to be protected heading into their third epic bout in the Buried Alive match. And with the new once a month PPV format, they had to do SOMETHING in September and after beating Undertaker, it felt like Mankind could believably take the title from Shawn. They were in a tight situation here and a DQ was the only way to get out of it.
    9) This was dumb. They should have just made the match Non-title and have Sabu win. That was an ECW audience that was rabid to have their guy win. He couldn't have the title, so just make the match non-title and that problem is solved. RVD was winning the title in the main event anyway, so they didn't need to have two world title matches.
    8) I skipped Mania XIX live because I was scared to death that Angle was going to kill himself given his bad neck. I decided I would watch the show after I heard nothing seriously bad happened to Kurt. However, I never envisioned that Lesnar would be the one to almost die. I will say this. I gained a ton of respect for Kurt Angle after that match (as if I didn't have it already) because he went out there hurt and needing surgery and then had to pull a new ending out of his ass after the major botch. He didn't let the situation get any worse than it already was and he deserves major praise for that.
    7) Yeah, this match was fantastic and had the best build heading into that Mania, but that botched finish took a little out of it. Still, great match. Also, the V-Lick ruled and Vince can suck it for his reaction to it.
    6) The Hog Wild/Road Wild events never worked because of the audiences. They weren't wrestling fans and almost none of it worked.
    5) Creative editing kind of saved this one from being worse.
    4) I hate the Scramble Matches. Even if the finish was executed well, I still wouldn't have liked it.
    3) Honestly, I almost never liked HHH/Orton matches so...whatever, lol.
    2) That ending was terrible and killed a match I was actually really excited for.
    1) I can't believe how badly they botched the Summer of Punk. Hottest storyline in years and they did everything in their power to do it wrong.
