I'm so happy you enjoyed that, Shawn! During the dark days of covid 2020, Michael Stipe was asked what he thought of "It's the End Of the World (As We Know It.) Michael said we're not at the end, the world is at a reset. During March 2020, I had covid with pneumonia, and I was forced to resign from a horrific job I had. The line near the end of the song "Time I had some time alone" was a relief to me!! I now have the job of my dreams as a result of all that!! ✌️🎶
Radio Free Europe (their breakout hit 1980) Fall On Me Nightswimming (slow and dreamy) Driver 8 What’s the Frequency Kenneth Orange Crush Losing My Religion not completely in order, but shows you the progression of their sound. SUCH a great band
Michael Stipe is such a great lyricist. I love early REM as much as or more than their later stuff when everyone started getting into them. There are loads and loads of REM you could do before running out of good ones. One that I find exceptionally pretty is Find the River. His vocals are so good. This song is almost like an anthem. Once you know the lyrics, you'll always sing along. They are hard to learn, though because he does sing them so fast.
Great request and reaction♥ They did another great performance of this song (and "People Have the Power," as a medley) with Eddie Vedder at the Groundwork concert in 2001. I recommend their song "Losing My Religion" (the award-winning official video), and "Find the River" (official "parallel video version") which is one of the most beautiful sad songs ever written, IMO.
Leonard Bernstein was a great composer, conductor, and music educator. The movie Maestro that came out a few months ago is about him. Leonid Brezhnev was head of the Soviet Union from the mid-60s to the early 80s. Lenny Bruce was a groundbreaking stand up comic and free speech advocate. Lester Bangs was a great rock critic, primarily for Creem Magazine. Great stylist, big hearted guy who was kind of a mess. He OD'ed on cough syrup four or five years before R.E.M. wrote this.
That was literally the first thing that I thought of in the verses was Subterranean Homesick Blues. But yeah, I consider both of those to be a form of rapping, and this is such a fun song live for sure.
On REM’s album “New Adventure’s in Hi-Fi” is a brilliant song called “So Fast So Numb”. Please consider a reaction to that audio version. It’s epic. Thanks ✌️
Lenny Bruce and Leonard Bernstein. Those are the only two names I could pick out of the lyrics, but I've never listened along with the lyrics in front of me, so... .REM, another big band out of Georgia, along with B-52's.
R.E.M. are easily one of the top 3 bands from the past 30 - 40 years.
They sure are. Their early work gets overlooked by so many, and it's got some of their best stuff.
I haven’t felt that much audience connection since watching Freddie Mercury live. Amazing song and performance

Michael Stipe is a poet, and R.E.M. is easily one of my all-time favorite band. Listen to "Drive", "Fall On Me", or "Electrolite".

Surprising. I wasn't under the impression this thing could be done live.........a real twing tuster.
Great live performances! I'd suggest checking out the studio. You may catch more of the multitudinous lyrics😅

I LOVE the B-52s and Pylon, also from Athens, GA
Leonid Brezhnev, Lester Bangs.
@@lauraallen55 Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom!
@@subwaygoddess1 lol yes! I learned all the lyrics to the song as soon as I heard it. Played it on repeat until I could :D
@@lauraallen55 I made a RUclips video of it. It took weeks, and there's still a couple of "f" ups in my pronunciations!! 🤣
This one was used in "Independence Day."
I think it was the movie 'Contact'.... The scientist playing golf...
Only thing missing from this gem is Bill Berry
LEONARD BERNSTEIN!
