Worth every penny rebuilding that pre emission engine. Run'em til we can't.

My old boss "saved some money" by having a friend of a friend rebuild his Cat engine....... a year later, blow by and a gallon of oil a day. Finally spent the right money and had a real mechanic with real Cat parts rebuild it. Glad you went with the right choice. Another million on tap!! Missed ya big guy!!
Your boss didn't save any money. My dad used to try to save money that way. It usually ended badly.

You got a good deal. That engine should last a long time. You basically got an in frame and an over head at the same time. You were probably due for most of that anyway. Just on the road wasn't in your plan I'm thinking. You will make it back in work really soome. You work pretty hard and have a good dispatcher that keeps you busy.
The joys of operating machinery. It's not if, it's when they are going to cost you money. I have a Scania and multiple tractors and farm implements, never ending. An organised person would keep a record of repairs and maintenance schedules! Maybe I should do that. Cheers Dan. ( From NZ )

The hidden beauty of rebuilding that motor is you buy yourself a bunch more years of service without having to deal with the emissions nonsense associated with new trucks. Thanks for the video, Dan. Interesting and that rebuilt motor sure looks purrdy!

Hello Rob.
Dan, congratulations on a successful rebuild at an excellent price. Didn't hear you mention a new engine rotational damper (perhaps included in the kit), or dynamic balancer. Two items
important to long engine life. If not replaced, consider replacing when you replace the radiator. You also might consider a turbo blanket and outlet pipe wrap for the new turbo. Decreased turbo lag and keeps engine compartment temps down. Glad to see Cat filters used and may be important if warranty is involved. Another vital recommendation is oil sampling at least every10,000 miles, and every change. Also trans and rear ends. Can alert you to warning these components are giving and $35 per sample is cheap insurance. Head gaskets usually gives several miles warning, and an oil analysis would show what a visual can't. With a new engine you now have a great opportunity to really improve your fuel milage with lower speeds, lower rpm's, and reduced turbo boost numbers and progressive shifting. Which results in less fuel purchases and more money in your bank account. Will make a big
dollar difference at the end of the year. Best of success trucking in 2021!

I can’t believe a platinum kit didn’t come with main bearings I just rebuilt one and put a platinum in it and it came with main bearings , good luck with it 👍😁
id get that radiator done soon before it goes to leaking......play it safe you've made a pretty good investment protect it!

I’m so glad to hear your truck is fixed and driving well. My parents always said you get what you paid for! The decision to go with a experienced CAT dealer with a talented mechanic, was so wise.
Peace of mind is a great thing. Now you have warranties covering your truck, possible better gas mileage with a turbo, will provide many safe miles for you and your truck.

Just my 2 cents, but I’d put a new harmonic balancer on that motor after doing a full rebuild. Not totally necessary, but definitely worth the time. Give that crank a new feel with one.

I think we need a contest on the turbo. Thirty seconds of video on say the old turbo and thirty seconds on the new turbo and see who can identify the turbo (new or old) in the video, by just the sound alone!
That ain't a bad price Dan for that rebuild, 4 year warranty, I say it was a good deal. Cleveland Brothers Cat near me would have been $30 thousand all day long.

About 5 is all that Cat is gonna get. Maybe a tick over but it’s a Cat. Not known for fuel mileage. Known for their power and dependability. When looking for a truck when you tip the hood if the engine isn’t yellow just close it back and walk away.

So glad to see you finally back on the road Dan. The cost isn't that bad even when I do the conversion over to Australian dollars. I don't know what the cost for an 18 speed box would be in comparison to the 13 speed but I recon that may be a good way for you to look into. Makes life a lot easier on your motor. BTW mate, you may not have seen or follow Trucking with Schmidt but he paid you one of the best compliments from another owner driver. Maybe if you get time you may want to check his channel out. Lovely guy and really sweet family and just like you, very family friendly. Anyway mate, best wishes from Australia Dan.

You done well, when you are this deep in the motor, only a fool would roll the dice and half ass anything. You should have years and miles of trouble free operation. In addition not to mention no check engine light for emissions. Hammer down Dan!

I put it like this anything u need to pay to keep your livelihood intact and going smooth is well worth it and all of us drivers know this industry is far from cheap tolls fuel insurance maintenance never ends and it never goes down in price!!

I love how Cat calls it a rebuilt without replacing the cam and main bearings. What a joke. Without replacing those components, it's a repair.
