How to Change your System Language completely in Windows 10 + Fixes

- Hi, So in short the steps are.
1. Add language pack in the control panel, go to Language & remove others. Set default the new language as default. Also in the advance settings and don't forget to download the language pack as well.
*SideNote: If you don't see the same Icons in the control panel as in the video, you most probably have the View settings in the upper right corner setup to a different setting then I have. You should have the view on "Large Icons". Then you most definitely will see same icons as I have in the video.
2. In Region select the new language pack and push it also to the welcome screen and new users
3. In %LocalAppData% change the folder name to en-US. It Doesn't change the search problem but it does make it clickable again. Full Path is:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState.
6. Open run command, type "Lpksetup /u" ,without the quotes and uninstall the old language.
7. After language pack install update kb3124200. This should fix the issue. There are maybe some new updates which will replace this update. If you can't find the update trough windows update, try to download the standalone installer. If it is already installed, uninstall the update and reinstall it. This should invoke the fix again. Like I said, if you have one of the latest versions installed, and bearly any new updates applied, chances are that you can't reinstall the old update and you're currently stuck until Microsoft set out a new update which replace the search / index problem.
Good luck, be sure to make a backup of your files or system and or make a restore point in case something goes wrong. I am not responsible for any failure of your machine and this is at your own risk. Wish you the best of luck and let me know if this helped you out.

*Update 4 Sept 2019:
Apparently sometimes in some newer and specific versions of Windows10 the language setting doesn't show in the control panel. I can't help you with this since I don't have a Windows10 machine were I can test this on, but I found a pretty decent reddit thread that could help you with this. Hope this helps.

To the people who are mixed with two languages go to 9:48 it helped and he is the only one I watched that tells u to do this. (usually happens when u watch other youtubers but they don’t tell u how to change the language completely instead only some of it)

WOW, Brother.! THANK YOU.... A Big Thumbs Up to you. Make that 2 thumbs up. I had to do this on my mom's laptop. She lives partial part of the year in Portugal. She wad having a problem with her laptop & brought it in for service. Well when she picked it up, they changed the entire language settings to Portuguese. She brought it back to the US & asked me to fix it. I went into settings & using a tablet for Google translation, I was able to change part to US English but couldn't figure the rest out. my small brother was playing with my laptop and he changed my windows language all in korean. All i see is korean words and i can't even understand a single word. How am i suppose to reset it on english when i don't even know what i am clicking 😩.

I initially saw the Language option in the control panel, but waited to update the Windows 10 OS to the latest version. Then the Language option was gone. However, I clicked on the gear icon ("Settings"), went to "Time and Language" (Symbol of the "A", a Chinese character, and clock) and clicked on Language and Region (symbol of "A" and Chinese character). Under Windows Language, I didn't see the language I wanted in the drop-down menu, even though it was listed under Prefered Languages below. Then, I noticed that in that bottom section, in my desired language, it said, "Language Pack available". So I clicked on that, and am downloaded the language packs. Once installation finally finishes, I anticipate being able to select the language I wanted in the drop-down menu under Windows Language.
And yup, it worked! I didn't have to select the language after downloading it. ...Thanks for the help!
And lol watching the video again, now I realize I was supposed to change the language settings first 🤣

same mistake all japanese kanji typos after I login. hope it will be working after I restart. I wanted only the types & accent not the whole f*#ng window. Like german I change but it was in top so I slide down & it worked but in Japanese all different language was f *#k translate in (Nihongodesu) no romaji. Merci, danje well

Yeah, it can take some time. Same as windows updates, sometimes it takes ages, and sometimes it goes really fast. Can depend on your internet connection or the way Windows is pulling the updates. Sometimes, Windows just makes this weird mistakes and getting certain updates from their servers or in this case the language pack, can take an awful long time. Glad it help though.

Windows 10 update gedaan tijdens de nacht, ik word wakker en zie dat alles in het Italiaans veranderd is. In Linux verander je de taal op een minuut tijd hetzelfde geld wss ook voor Mac toestellen. Wat een klucht Microsoft
Late reactie, maar heb je het kunnen oplossen? Had trouwens precies hetzelfde vandaar de video. Misschien dat je een restore point kan gebruiken
if i change my language from german to english my keybord changes too and then its hard to type stuff since the keyboard is different from what actually says on my keyboard

I just wanted to ask, at the 'Lpksetup /u' screen, I can see Spanish (espanol) and English (English). And Spanish is the default.
Can I switch the default status to English as the default and delete Spanish?

Depending if you want to have it in English 😊. But yeah you can do it, but like I said in the video. Make a backup or a restore point if you are unsure. Microsoft can respond sometimes different then it is suppose to. But it should normally be no problem. You can also keep it if everything is already working fine for you, but if not, then this could be the last step that could solve those last issues.
So my story started when I sent my laptop to Asus for repairs - but when I got it back, they decided to format my laptop and install a Spanish version of Windows onto my PC. Bottom line, I had to re-install english windows - then english was my defualt display language. Your video set me on the right path - I could actually read what was happening on my screen while it was still broken so I appreciate it a lot.
Haha I'll be honest, reinstall is a much easier, better and faster solution then changing the language settings, but unfortunately, not everyone can do that. So I am glad that it at least helped you getting into the right direction and that you eventually solved the issue ^_^

Is there anyway that one can remove English US? I find that even though I have set English NZ Windows still defaults quite often to the US version and I cannot remove it even thought I have it set as second.

You'll have to find it in settings. the menu moved there with updates

Hello Sir, I've been trying to figure out how to add English to my display language. In the list it shows English but no icon to set as default. A little background, My windows 10 is noted as a single language OS. I am not sure if that means the display language is locked to the installed language or can be changed. If it can be changed, How? AM running windows 10 1909 platform.

Last step is not working, if I write it in run command, the language in which OS is installed (polish) can't be uninstalled :/

Haha, can understand your comment. Still if you read the comment section, you can see that there are a lot of different problems regarding the change of a language pack. There are a lot of videos that can guide you trough the standard procedure within 5 minutes, but they won't address all the issues that a lot of people are facing 😉. Hope that it still helped you though😊

You can try to download the language pack on the internet as well, instead of Microsoft downloading it, you can download it manually. Try if that works :)

I thought that I had done most all of this, but when I installed Windows 11 the instructions etc came up in the original German. It's still installing after 12 hours, and I expect it will come up in German and I'll have to start all over. Any advice? A great video BTW.

My Windows 10 is different at yours - a have Greek and I can't manage to change' it to English
Even the menu and the icons are different so at the start is in Greek, I have just 5 lines you have much more, so doesn't help at all and I'm not saying about all tabs and menus IS ALL IN Greek!
I have a HP Stream 14 and I've changed language setting and such but it will not change when I login into it on start up screen everything is French :/ and I cant download anything else without changing the user account to administrative but yet I cant even change that I'm stuck in local account :/
