"Somebody" is the PERFECT song for it's time. The lyrics, production, flow and feature is the epitome of what 2015 sounded like. It's still fresh till this day. Same with Pia Mias Do It Again.

"Somebody" is so well crafted as a spring break/summer anthem and the beat still sounds fresh to this day imo. Her latest song "Boys Lie" also has that same highly danceable vibe and it's been in my playlist since when I found out she still makes music. I think she's one of the most memorable one hit wonder of 2010s pop.

She's like Samantha Mumba or Amerie, They had so much potential.
Listen, Amerie is far superior. She has a name that still can ring out and a slew of hits. No shade to Naomi but this video is DOA because practically no one knows who Natalie was/is. A true definition of a non-factor all around.
She made the fatal mistake of signing to an artist who was still actively doing their own thing.

i love her so much. been a fan since the beginning and was proud to finally see a Surinamese 🇸🇷 star. i wish she would've been a big pop star 😭
I remember hearing around the world a lot on the radio back in the day, such an underrated song, I used to be obsessed with it as a kid 😍😩
I still listen to somebody to this day, but she came in with saying her name, which always ate to me. I saw a whole breakdown on why she failed, and pretty much they did not give one care about this young lady; they marketed her more as a dancer than a singer; they also didn’t save her from the Aaliyah conspiracy theories.
They could’ve done so much with her till she eventually fizzled and marketed her somewhere else, but you know the industry.
All around the world could have also been a hit, but honey. This to me marks the trend of mediocre male features ruining fantastic female songs. A Boogie wit da hoodie being most notable, ruining two of my favorite female led songs.

Not really counted as a debut but Bonnie McKee is another person that comes to mind with regards to having a long gap. Her 2nd studio album was supposed to release back in 2013 (with American Girl being the lead single. Still a bop to this day!!) and was considered her comeback as a recording artist after being a songwriter to others but the album was ultimately shelved by Epic. She rerecorded the entire album and was finally released independently this year

This was such a fun time to be alive with music. I love female artist I love that New Age dance R&B sound. And in this era, we got Tinashe’s 2 On, Kehlani’s The Way, and then we also got the girls that didn’t stick around to like Jasmine V’s That’s Me Right There, & Natalie’s Somebody.
becky g comes to mind for one of the longest gaps between debut single and album. her first single was 2011 i believe, and album in 2019.

Brandy and Ashanti were EXTREMELY successful. They both had hits on hits, sold millions of records and have at least 1 classic album. They do not belong in a conversation with Tinashe or Kesha(no shade).

I was just listening to Around the World the other day and was wondering about her. She really has that thing (also, she kinda looks like Aaliyah in that pic of her and Flo Rida)
As far artists who took the longest to release their first album go there's British singer Alexis Strum who was meant to be the next big thing in pop music in the early 2000's, her debut single was released in 2003 but it flopped and she was dropped by her label and the album was shelved, a few years later she recorded another album but yet again she was dropped by her label before the album was supposed to be released, the two albums she recorded wouldn't be released until 2023
She actually owned the master for the second album, just no one bothered to tell her that! Glad it finally released
I met her back in 2016 when she was opening for Fifth Harmony, she was so incredibly sweet and friendly. :’)

me and my friends always thought we just made her music up in our heads during elementary school lmao she was all over our pandora radio stations and then just disappeared
UGH i could NOT escape this song on the radio back then. i was 12 hiding in my garage listening to music in the car radio and this song was on rotation! to this day i find myself saying “Natalie La Rose” so in a way shes still on our minds. that song was sooooo catchy but i def got tired of it.

Honestly the label including Flo Rida did her wrong!! I was so excited to see a pop star from Amsterdam, who is also originally from Suriname like me, have a big hit in the usa. Unfortunately the momentum has passed a long time ago. She did release a cute bop called “boys lie”. I love how she actually looks identical to Aaliyah! Not surprised she can dance like her too since she was trained at the most prestigious dance school in Amsterdam!!
She has an ep dropping this month!!
The biggest problem in her career was going on tour too soon rather than promoting on a bigger stages
Flo Rida was basically the one who got her into the industry and fueled her career. I feel like their relationship went further than just professional, and once they broke up he took her career with him.

he may have just invested that money to enjoy his life without releasing new music.
