Today we're talking the 2024 VMAs! I break down my review into 3 parts: (1) Reviewing red carpet looks from attendees like Chappell Roan, LISA, Meg Thee Stallion and Sabrina Carpenter (2) Thoughts on the performances (most of them!) and (3) Memorable moments of the show w artists like Flavor Flav and Camila. I'll also give thoughts on the show overall and how few active artists who attended the VMAs years ago, like Taylor Swift, rarely show anymore.

tbh the vmas this year made me realize how boring pop culture is becoming😭😭like everything is just a reference to something iconic that someone wore, did, or said a decade or two ago. like where are the new and original gags???? it feels like everyone these days are just going "remember when so and so did this? well look at me i can do it too🙋♀"
but love megan as a host she NEEDS to host more events her charisma is crazy
They’ll be like OMG THE REFERNCE RO THE FUGHT BETWEEN X AND Y. But then get mad at chappel yelling at a photographer
I was going to comment the same thing
I think Chappell Roan is a breath of fresh air, she of course does remiind me of some of the more "quirky" and "artsy" pop stars like Bjork or Kate Bush but at the same time she does have her own, unique vibe. I also wish more attention was brought to artists like Solange (she's quite known but in a very specific environment only I feel like) or Kelela. Kelela is something else, literally no one sounds like her or pays homage to the club culture quite like she does.
and I couldn't agree more on Megan being an amazing charismatic host, she always kills award shows
It's even more odd to think that since 2024 has a lot of great pop records, you'd think the VMAs this year would be filled with more iconic moments but this year felt nothing.
Someone commented vma made them realize how good the camera people in korean music shows are. This makes sense.
@@honeybee347 the VMA cameras just be doing whatever half the time…
Pretty much all kpop performances in the US looks terrible in comparison. Kpop without good camera work is like a chicken without seasoning. It makes u appreciate western performers more because I always thought it's their weak performance ability and not the bad camera work and timing. I also always wondered how these performers always looked better in fan videos.
@@Minivan9255I mean kpop performances normally depend only on the camera work and are pretty meh in real life 😭
@@el972 bc it's not made for the audience watching in the place where the award takes place. It's made for people watching at home.
LMAO this is so true lol i love kpop camera people, they're doing gymnastics and running around, they're giving it their all and i love it 😭
the crowd for sabrina was insane!! felt like her own tour for a minute there! i can’t imagine the excitement she felt in that moment, must have been surreal
Tate McRae and Victoria Monet should’ve been nominated for best choreography.
@@tthewizard7667 agreeee but I am happy for the Dua win
Tate was nominated wdym she just didnt win
My favorite moment was Sabrina's reaction for her winning SOTY, she was like: wait really
@@Chuu_Vault riiiight!! Anything could happen but Espresso was my front runner
I don't think she was actually surprised though.
@@katgreer6113well considering fortnight won song of the summer anything could have happened at the fraudmas
To be fair she was performing at the preshow just 11 months ago and had people walking past her while opening for Taylor Swift like 6 months ago. Plus her career has been sort of shaky for 10 years. So I'm sure she was surprised to win something like this even if it's just a Vma.
Chappell, Sabrina and Megan are the only reasons I watched tbh. Vmas overall was kinda boring but less so than previous years
I think the Tyla convo is really forced. Yeah sure, it was kinda dumb but to paint her as a diva when she’s awkward and barely into this industry is also dumb. People blew it out of proportion.
same.
@@tylerhackner9731 Yeahhhh it’s really clear it’s not the peak VMAs anymore but I’m glad the performers still did their thing
Those girls and Katy was my reasons; while I do think Katy has a lot of potential than her previous album, she's made amazing songs and has a formidable discography.
I didn't even watch it, but I mostly cared about Chappell being best new artist (she so deserved it) and was glad to find out Megan hosted
Right? It just feels like, a lot of people were waiting for any excuses to "humble" her, as we are socialised to do to succesful desirable young women in sexist patriarchal societies.
They dont like, that she moves through the world knowing her worth. Also, calling her "uppity" gave internalised misogynoir (I know, Tyla isnt Black but her appeal is proximity to Blackness, so she catches antiBlack criticisms). I didnt like that at all.
🙅🏾♀️🙅🏾♀️🙅🏾♀️
Totally feel the same.. they’re not showing the audience much anymore and not getting celebrity reactions. That’s kinda what made the vmas so great.
I'm really happy Megan is getting more attention with being the host and "Mamushi." I never thought it was fair with how she kinda became underrated circa "Traumazine."
apparently the trophy is pretty heavy. there's a clip of olivia rodrigo asking someone to hold her's a few years ago so what tyla did is not a big deal at all
on the red carpet pre show, a host/interviewer handed megan her award for top trending video, and naturally she was stunned like 😮 and the host/interviewer was like “oh, do you need me to hold it?” bc he thought it was too heavy for her. so he gestured to take it back but she was like “oh no, i got it 😄” bc duh she got it, she’s strong and athletic!
The only reward that I was not happy about was song of the summer. First of all, Fortnite is not a summer song regardless of the nomination. I’m honestly shocked that Sabrina or Chappell didn’t win. Their songs were more fitting for that award because they fit the summer vibe and they were going viral on social media.
LITERALLY. Everyone forgot about Fortnight by the summer. It was a song of the SPRING. Espresso, Birds Of A Feather, Not Like Us, Good Luck Babe, and fuck it, even the Shaboozey song are summer songs. It pissed me off so much. My dad hates BOAF & GLB and even he agreed they should have had a better chance of winning.
Also, why the hell has Guess by Charli & Billie nominated AT ALL? It wasn't nearly THAT popular. Nominated 360 or Apple 😭😭
@caoyuann LITERALLY, even though neither of those were my front runner they were totally big summer songs 😭
BOAF, Apple/360, Espresso, Nasty, and GLB should’ve been the clear winners…like how did Taylor win that???
It’s fan voted. Ofc it’s gonna win 😅
The VMAS always comes around to remind me why fan votes award shows are terrible. The only awards I think even made sense in the main categories was Sabrina winning SOTY and Chappel winning BNA
They’re not reeeeeally fan voted tho.. if the VMAs or their sponsors don’t agree with the results they can just not respect them
For the 40th anniversary of the VMAs, I was hoping for an appearance from Madonna. As being a performer for the very first ever VMAs and performing some of the most unforgettable performances to ever exist in music history, I was hoping for an appearance for her.
maybe it’s just the state of music today/how we consume it, but i think it’s really really hard to make an iconic moment now. them juxtaposing the current show with the older clips just made that feel even more obvious. shoutout to sabrina though cause the energy in the arena was insane
I feel like since everything is "acceptable " now I think it's really hard to push boundaries and be truly schoking
“Moon person” I’m dead😭💀 m
I loved all the space themed stuff. I know it’s a nod to the VMAs/moon man but I also think it shows how influential Y2K and futurism is right now
Olivia Rodrigo should’ve gone to perform “so American” or “obsessed” from GUTS spilled 😞
@@cookieyellow7601 wait yes I forgot to also mention her as someone who I thought would show!
Big name acts don’t even attend anymore. So the VMA’s have lost it’s “magic” for many people.
Taylor Swift is the biggest act in the world right now her tour grossed over 1 billion dollars She attended that's all they needed.
@@fionaday1336 yes she is but there are others as well and all of them combined made vmas interesting like the older times
Yeah I feel like it's more devoid of celebrities now. It makes it so people like Chappel Roan and Sabrina Carpenter, despite mainly having a Gen Z and Alpha reach, don't have much competition since a lot big name singers like Justin Bieber, Billie Ellish, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande and more are either retired, semi retired, not showing up, cancelled, or doing other stuff that's more important for them because they have hundreds of useless trophies.
And if big singers stay home it encourages other big singers to also stay home. Acting award shows are the same.
Yes, big names attend… throughout the show, and during performances, the camera people film random celebs in the audience. The thing is that the music industry (and also acting, Hollywood) is very over-saturated as time goes on. We just have endless celebrities and musicians now, and countless up-and-coming tv and movie stars that appear at awards shows. Plus, before the internet, it was a bigger deal to be seen at the VMAs and other awards shows, as far as celeb exposure and promo. Now that everything is not necessarily viewed on a television set at a specific time, it’s a bit more… watered-down? Weak? 🫤
Also, while her music may not be in English, Karol G is one of the biggest stars ever. She’s maybe not on-par with Taylor as far as selling out global stadiums, but she does stadium tours in many countries, including the US, Canada, Mexico and all of Latin America and Spain. And that’s with a catalog of music that’s 99.9% in Spanish. Usually 100%. She just sold out four nights in Madrid with 80k people at each night.
I feel like we’ve all lost it in terms of blowing things out of proportion because I really didn’t gaf or even notice when Tyla asked for someone to hold her award (I don’t think she even said Halle specifically and Nas took it anyway)
And it’s like so whatever 😭 literally who cares she asked for someone to hold the award it’s so not that serious
Like sure she could have put it on the ground, but she didn’t and the world kept spinning
Like did the vmas become so boring that this is the drama coming from it 😭
i lowkey wish charli would get more awards, she had video of the year potential but the mainstream isn’t ready for that conversation yet…
@@zzjamie-is-over-partyzz every day Spring Breakers becomes more and more relevant…
I was very shocked to find that she was nowhere to be seen in the categories while voting considering how big of a moment the album was!!
I watched the video for 360 over and over again!! The last music video I did that for was Gaga’s Bad Romance…
I think megan hosted so well
She acted like how she always does
Sassy and perky
Lisa is most DEFINITELY out of kpop category this time. New Woman and Rockstar are so so western, kind of racially charged a little. You tell me a Thai woman and Spanish woman on a track, and another song sampling an Australian band counts as kpop IN FULL ENGLISH? I’m a 8/9 year old kpop veteran who really isn’t into it all anymore as I’m 22 now, but Lisa winning a kpop award when this just isnt is crazy af.
you know you can still be into kpop as an adult right...? "as I'm 22 now" do you think you can't listen to it after a certain age..?
@@vfam.4308 I know, but once I got into college the full effect of kpop was hard to manage. I only catch groups I care about rarely now, I don’t watch shows anymore, variety, stages, stay up for then anymore, etc. That was all when I had more time in high school and it was so much fun, but when I came to college, life got very busy and 4th gen kinda came and I was only truthfully listening to Loona, NewJeans, and my 3rd gen groups on release day.
I hear, Tyla won an "afrobeats" award, despite "Water" not being an afrobeats song. So, I think it's safe to say, that the people compiling the VMA categories are offensively remaining on a surface level.
Same here. I stopped paying attention at some point in my 20s and during the pandemic
@@vfam.4308thats their personal experience on it. They feel that way about themselves
The VMA"s this year was demure. I think Megan, Taylor and Sabrina brought in the viewership this year, everyone preformed very well, but I did think that Ariana Grande was snubbed. The amount of stars that didn't preform disappointed me. But it was okay.
Megan’s red dress looks like a reference to Vash’s coat from Trigun’s first anime. I thought it was a reach at first but the bottom has all these details that make it look singed.
Oooh i didnt thought of that but knowing Megan it makes sense
To me Britney's performances especially i'm a slave 4 you and the one with Christina and Madonna always will be the most ICONIC. But i agree that Katy Perry deserve the vanguard award. I would love if Christina Aguilera is the next to win the vanguard award but i don't think that mtv appreciate her. I didn't watch the show, only the Katy and Sabrina performances.
i agree that katy perry was deserving the video vanguard award for her pop career. she still sucks as a person tho, and no fan-voted award is gonna change that
Thank youuuu for talking ab those camera angles bc they were so baddd. It really took away from some of the performances.
When I saw the first clips from past shows, I said they have to show us the greatest moments because they know they’re not creating any tonight.
Also, I hope Victoria pays them dust until the end of time. Because they had a few sneak performances that made me go “They didn’t think Victoria was ready but they’re giving us this?!”
@@amberreed7704 oh for sure, if I was her I’d be more than okay not coming again… also them nominating SZA for AOTY this year as like a consolation was… something
sabrina, chappell, megan, lisa & halsey easily had the best performances of the night… they slayed ✨
People blew the Tyla and Halle situation out of proportions!! They’re even going as far as calling her a colorist on TikTok
Most of them were waiting for an opportunity to hate on her.

I loved Katys vanguard performance, hands down something incredible!! Specially when she sang Im His Hes Mine with Doechii, im surprised people are calling that segment "queerbaiting" when you have two Bisexual women preforming and the both of them woudlve agreed to this. Other than that, i found this years awards amazing.
they did that on a song about a man. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'd love if it was on a sapphic song but it was not and that is the problem. Even Sabrina's mv for taste makes sense with the lyrics. Katy's performance just does not.
I love katy's perf
@@FIRXFLYYeah Katy just served "what a straight dude lesbian fantasy looks like" as she did with I kissed a girl back then. It's always related to a man and look more like a thing done to please him more rather than genuine bi moments lol.
katy's performance was easily the best of the night, Dark Horse/E.T./I'm His, He's Mine part alone.
And yes, the hate is very forced. Since 2017 Katy Perry has been shited on so bad, and beacouse of what? A fucking haircut. She got bullied and got called crazy the entire 2017 and 2018 bc of a simple haircut. People also did not want her to experiment with music (Witness), and wanted her to go to her "signature" sound, she did (Smile), then everybody hated on the album bc it was safe, and already seen before.... Whatever she does she will be hated and it is so forced. It's not like with Taylor where she has tons of haters, but much more fans. For Katy, the hate is almost, if not bigger than love.
Dr. Luke is awful, but Katy Perry is not Dr. Luke. And i'm not sure but doesn't she have to work with him on 3 albums, and this is the 3rd ...?
Btw I also loved Lisa's, Chappell's and Sabrina's performances. And I do agree on the fashion part.
Omg exactly. According to the contract its three albums. And she got that done cuz of the accusations etc. people are so terrible to her. They empathized with doja and literally hated katy for this??
Lisa and Tyla deserved normal pop awards not kpop and afrobeats it felt wrong to me.
I thought Megan did a great job! She helped bring viewership, and it was the highest in like four years. I loved Glorilla’s performance, very Janet Jackson coded ⭐️
I saw viewership was down 30 something percent from last year
I don’t think Megan impacted the ratings. It was the VMAs partnering with different cable networks such as the Mexican network combined that helped bring up ratings
Paramount Global called out said because Megan hosted they had the highest Social Media interactions in History 66,7miloion compared bro 46million last year and it mattered..So she made a huge difference.
Way too many performances tbh. The awards were predictable and the VMA's is one of those attendance award shows anyways. But song of the summer being fan voted was stupid. Taylor swift will win regardless since her fandom is huge but we all know other songs deserved that.
TikTok’s ‘add to Spotify’ feature is amazing! It doesn’t recognize every song, but a lot of them I’m able to save quickly!
Unpopular Opinion: Having the winners be fan voted makes them less important, interesting, or valid.
Not really unpopular tbh, the VMAs was always kinda “fake” in the sense that it was just a glorified popularity contest, but still a very fun one
Agreed
Rockstar is not kpop. However, racism and they are going pigeon hold her into kpop just like black ppl with R&B and hiphop and Spanish/hispanic ppl in Latin category. That is the simple answer.
thats what i've been saying for years.... these award shows just making kpop categories just to pigeonhole asian artists there, even the ones like lisa and jungkook making records for the western market
It’s so laughable at how black people and Asian people are stuck in “their” genres. Hip hop/rap/gospel and kpop for whatever reason seem to be the only things we can make, yet white artists can damn near be categorized in everything and get a pass (which they should be able to) but even if our album is labeled “soft rock” or “pop” it’s still just…r&b, and for Asian artists who come from Asia or even maybe even DABBLED in the Korean market, as Korean.
@@luckyxxxxk I figured it was one of those situations unfortunately
@@mayruuh exactly but it’s hard to explain this to the new die hard kpop fans. I’ve been into kpop for over a decade and when kpop artists would get awards in the western market back then it was mostly in Europe and it would be an international award if I remember correctly. Like BIGBANG won MTV Europe Music Award for Best Worldwide Act in 2011. Which imo is better bc they were up against other international artists just not kpop. Therefore every international artist in the category has an equal chance of winning in theory. Kinda makes the win more special bc they are acknowledging you are more than just kpop. And BIGBANG wasn’t even singing in English. So it’s a real slap in the face for idols to make a whole song for the western music market just to still be consider kpop at the end of the day when they are OBVIOUSLY in the POP market.

In my opinion, these days, the VMAs operate more as nostalgia. Back in its heyday, the award show was the peak of pop culture. This is the same event that Madonna became the first erotic superstar of the 80s & 90s, where Tina Turner made her comeback, where Michael Jackson revolutionized the music video on stage in real time, where Nirvana and Guns & Roses kicked of their feud, where Prince strutted in chaps and high heels, where Janet Jackson brought sensuality to the stage, where Xtina and Eminem sparked their feud in the public eye, where Britney Spears became the undisputed queen of teen pop… The award show wasn’t known just for the things that happened during the show itself, but for the iconic performances that burned themselves into our public memory. These days pop stars are more or less interested in winking at something from moments past instead of generating completely original ideas and as a result, more attention is on the references made than the actual performance. Adding insult to injury, this generation of risk-adverse pop stars seem less likely to rock the boat with the public (because of cancel culture) and so we don’t get a lot of controversy or daredevil antics like we used to… making the appeal of the VMAs less appealing.
Love your videos! Your eyes really stand out and you’re so beautiful!! Much love to you from another RUclipsr! 🌟

The VMAs was as boring as the previous one, nothing really stood out. It was all nostalgia core rather then original clothing that we could reference back a few years later. The Viewership wasn't because of Megan, but because VMAs have been partnering and letting other networks which will change the viewership, I love Megan but she doesn't have a big of a fanbase and really got the public interested in her for her only to bring views/ratings. This is why i say if the Network never copyrighted channels on youtuber, their viewership will go up and make them relevant again. The fashion was boring nothing new or exciting, the only performances i liked were Megan, Chappell, and Lisa, i really wanted to see if a KPOP idol can wild us with their performance.I agree with the tyla situation, it't force and out of nowhere
I definitely loved vmas 2023 much more than vmas 2024. We had much more artist bringing things to the table with their performances rather than 2024

I really liked le sserafim's pre show performance and megan thee stallion is a such a good performer! Her energy is unmatched
I went to the VMAs last year and the year before that. There are performances where they combine 2 different artists and pan to the next performer and the announcer goes “_(Artist)_ in 3..2..1..” it’s probably because of the time slot for the show and they don’t want to go overtime. Last year it ended like an hour later then when it was supposed to
I love Karol G downnnnn. Her discography is full of hits, I had it on repeat for month at one point. Either version of the Mañana Será Bonito albums would be a good place to start.
second this!!
I think this really goes down to how platforms like tiktok have diluted pop culture massively. The attention span has decreased and hence why they’ve crammed performances back to back etc , rather than showcasing awards. I am glad I was 16, saw gaga in a meat dress and announce born this way that night. Now, what is there to take away from the VMAS?
I feel like Lisa’s New Woman is just pop. But because she’s Korean people consider it k-pop which isn’t necessarily ideal in fact. The same way not all of Tems (a Nigerian/ African artist) is afrobeats and could be considered R&B
the thing is Lisa isn’t even Korean lol, she’s Thai. she is just part of a Korean group. Lisa’s new solo stuff has all been in english… so the VMAs putting an artist from Thailand who’s music is in English into the K-pop category is telling 😓

I think the VMAs took a major dip after the 2013 one, and they’ve been trying to recreate the iconic moments from the former ones ever since with homages. That’s not to say homages are a bad thing, but relying on it too much and forcing a viral moment gets annoying…
The only reason the homages worked for me during this one is because this VMAs celebrated its 40th anniversary, so i’ll give it a pass.

It was a star solidifying moment for Chapell. I adored Sabrinas performance also. Queer panic is watching Chapell and Lenny Kravitz's performances back to back Thursday morning. I loved both of their looks
This thought will probably evolve for me over time, but I think the lackluster red carpets we’ve been getting lately are a reflection of fashion’s place in society currently. Even the most luxury brands have been leaning into cutting costs & hyping up pieces that are overall cheaper to make. To me, corners being cut in high fashion + the lack of mainstream red carpet commentary culture = our current culture where celebs care more about referencing vintage looks instead of creating new and unique fashion moments.

i'm pretty sure rockstar is actually categorised as pop (at least on apple music)

I was so hyped, but it was super underwhelming. All the clips from previous years just underscored how not exciting the VMAs are today.
Yes! I was thinking the exact same thing! I felt like the overall stage presence was very.. lifeless. Not with every performance but with a lot of them. For instance I love Halsey and Lisa but Halsey looked like.. almost scared and Lisa just felt like she was holding back. Idk the vibe was kind of odd.
Yessss get into Karol. She explores lots of genres in her discography especially the last album so def check her out!

I’m so glad you brought up Karol G. Her music has even reignited my Spanish-speaking, something I’ve always done since I was a kid, but lowkey let go… until a few years ago. Now it’s like I’m dreaming in Spanish. 😆 But as far as where to start with Karol, she only has four albums so far. The oldest is _Unstoppable_ from a few years back… 2017, maybe? Then her second album _Ocean_ has some hits on it for sure (Mi Cama, Ocean, A Ella, Follow, Secreto, Punto G). Even though her recent fourth album _Mañana Será Bonito_ has been her most successful, which contains her duet with Shakira TQG ('te quedo grande'), I’ll be honest it’s not my fave of hers. It’s a little too… Latin poppy-folky to me. I personally like the "real" reggaetón rhythms, which nobody really is authentic to these days anyway, but at least we could hear more in some other songs. I love Karol’s third album _KG0516_ from 2021. Some of her biggest songs are on there, Tusa (w Nicki Minaj), Ay Dios Mío, Bichota, Location, El Barco, Leyendas, and more. During that time she had some other hits too, collabs, like "Poblao" remix.
Lisa’s songs are definitely not kpop. It’s pretty obvious that she’s trying to distance herself from kpop as a soloist and her songs are fully English so she shouldn’t have been in the kpop category.
That green robe.....300 years old. Legit
I miss the drama of the VMA’s, bring back the messy award shows!! 🤭
Even though she’s in her flop era, katy was the only real standout performance for me.
"Flop" feels polite😂
Ur completely right the vmas have been tired for a WHILE
First of all- Naomi, I looove your content, you really have a gift of turning every conversation into something interesting. I also have an unpopular opinion: We will never EVER get another superstar of Michael Jackson's or Beyonce's caliber because the way people consume media has changed DRASTICALLY. A big part of their success was creating that mystique or that persona that was exciting and mysterious, so fans (and even non fans) were on their tippy toes anticipating the artist's next move, gossiping on what's to come. Nowadays, there's just no space to create that because if you do not constantly feed people with content, they just move onto the next artist. People's attention spans have shortened significantly (due to the pandemic, TikTok's rise etc.) so they don't have the patience to wait for the next dopamine hit coming from a quality project that has been in works for a long enough time. Not to mention, it's hard to come up with that shock value or give the audience something that they haven't seen before because we have become very desensitised. Another reason behind that is that in the golden era of pop stars/ idols, the public figures were usually a symbol of something big and significant (for example, hard work, believing in your dreams, philantropy etc) that fans, especially young, were looking up to. Since then, the average consumer has gained knowledge on how fake and fabricated the industry really is, in many circles the celebrity culture is going through its downfall even. I hope I explained my point well.
Im just tired of seeing Taylor Shift so I just wait for MTV to upload whatever. Honesty I Miss Gaga!!! I did love Chappells performance and how she kept a theme going even on the red carpet. I also Got emotional during her speech. Other then that I dont have a reason to watch.
the eye make up 🔥🔥🔥
Katy Perry’s performance gave Superbowl budget and feast for the eyes 🙌🏼
VMAs continues to have a lack of melanin issue for some reason
facts no SZA, Victoria Monet, & Tinashe. like dude Vmas went right back to being white music television again😂
@@ElijahMCMalik None of them are popular enough.
Make your black artists popular first then you can complain about it
I like Katy Perry and I like a lot of her music, I don’t like the whole Dr. Luke disaster and I also think it’s one big joke that she won most iconic vma performance. That award belonged to either Gaga or the legendary Madonna-Britney-Xtina kiss.
Karol g with the venezuelan flag was iconic
Karol G is the reggaeton girl, I think you should start from her album Mañana sera bonito, and then to the mañana sera bonito (bichota season) which is kind of a continuation to it, and then make your way down. Her last is her best album but she still has hits in the others
Katy Perry ATE, I had low expectations but she really did remind the audience that she is THE Katy Perry.
Imagine having low expectations towards woman who invented pop
@@AntoniaM-kk3uy I think low was maybe too harsh, she always gives, I just didn't think her label was going to invest in a performance like this and make ALL the right moves for the performance. Didn't doubt Katy's performing abilities for a second. Just her team and label with how the current rollout is going.
@@jonova3187 i think mtv paid for performance idk..but her label is the worst, its shame they dont promote her singles
Yeah, this year (and the last several years) I've seen a decline in the VMA's. I'm not sure if my age is a factor (34), but most of the performance choices were a bit tired. I liked that Megan was hosting, but it didn't feel like she was hosting. Where were the pre-recorded skits that hosts typically do? She dressed like Britney for two seconds, but I felt like there was no "hosting." No real fun bits throughout the show. Anyone could have done what she did. It also didn't help that the show was in Long Island. Like come on, why couldn't MTV get Radio City Music Hall, Barclays, or MSG; just anywhere else except for Long Island (I live in NYC so I find it weird). The show also lacked the star power. Being that the VMA's have switched to fan voting (this started in 2006), I think artists probably feel why bother showing up if I'm up against Taylor Swift. I did like Katy's performance, Sabrina's was cute, and this was also my first time seeing a full Chappell Roan performance.
The moon man is 7-7.5 pounds; it is heavy, but I felt like that’s not how you ask someone to hold your award. She should’ve brought her assistant on stage with her, but later on in photos she held it with no problems. She should have come prepared.
It’s really not that deep. I don’t like how the actuall message of Tyla’s speech which were African music genres getting clumped together under Afrobeats.
Heck, even Olivia Rodrigo had trouble holding her award. Y’all just wanna find ways to hate on Tyla.
I’m actually a Tyla fan, so don’t start that with me luv second. I didn’t take it that deep. I just stated my opinion, so cry somewhere else. Also, the Olivia situation isn’t the same as Tyla, so please pack it up ASAP.
@@ahmarindungu9010 I’m also a Tyla fan and y’all still blew it out of proportion…so what now? People have been calling her an “uppity African” for simply not wanting to hold an award? Like there’s no need for all the nasty talk.
she said please and apologized, did you want her to get on her hands and knees and beg? LMFAOOOO
For Karol G:
My Favorites from her KG0516 album are:
Bichota
Tusa
Sola es Mejor
Ay Dios Mio
The Mañana sera Bonito album (plus the bichota season version) are her most recent releases and it has bops! Some standouts for me are:
Karmika
Mañana sera bonito
Gucci los paños
Besties
Me tengo que ir ft Kali Uchis
Oki doki
@@okaiiiii3931 Ahhh thank youuu 🫶🏾
The thing I found so strange was the award show barely presenting any awards, lol. Like so many awards were just given off camera and it kinda gives some validity to people calling the VMAs the attendance awards 💀
Why did Tate McRae, Gaga/ Bruno, Shaboozy & Victoria Monet not perform?
😊😊😊😊😊😊
Megan, Sabrina, and Glo had the best performances for me
I will say about Katy Perry that it did look like she was singing live for the most part and she was running around and doing a lot during her performance, which I was impressed by because she still sounded good and not out of breath.
i was tight that tinashe didn't at least perform, but she strutted her butt off to no broke boys for that presentation 😭
Definitely noticed the lack of televised awards and employing random d list celebs to work the audience cameras really dragged down the show. Also the booing for Katy through the live feed was soooo loud 😭
