gotta love how once harrison caught the ball, all the defense immediately started to protect him at all costs. thats real teamwork there.
YES 👍🏾
The officials missed a block in the back by #56 at about the 30 yard line.
How many times was he almost tripped by his own blockers, though?
they practiced the run back in practice everytime there was a fumble or interception in practice. they got it engrained and this play showed it
Indeed amazing ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Amazing play of course by Harrison, but the wall of steelers that formed after the INT gives me chills. A true team effort and one guy who refused to stop until he got to the endzone
That was no accident either....Tomlin worked with the idea for 2 weeks "after an INT get in front and block for the returner" and holy hell did it pay off!
@@joeyblowey3460 True story. Within about 20 yards I think there was 7 guys leading the way. Credit to Larry Fitz too -- he ran the length of the field, got blocked OB then got back in to make the tackle a 1/2 yard too late. Thankfully!!
He never made the. End zone
@@anthonycaruso3688
He did. The misconception here is that when Larry Fitz tackled him, Harrison's knee landed on Fitzgerald's crotch and was not legally down as a result. So the touchdown counted by his momentum then rolling into the endzone. Al Michaels and John Madden explain all of this in this exact video lol
@@anthonycaruso3688 That was a TD. He wasn't down by contact. The ball didn't touch the ground until after it breached the goal line. He had control of the ball all the way. You should probably learn the rules of the game.
This play is definitive of Football.
One of the greatest single plays in the game's history, featuring Hall of Famers in the Super Bowl, with commentary by its most beloved ambassador, John Madden.
Im a cardinals fan and its the one play that I wish didnt happen
Couldn’t have said it better myself! Add to that this play being an incredibly rare “walk-off” TD*, the highest scoring play (by far) in NFL Postseason history per Pro-Football Reference’s Expected Points metric, & a key play to make Pittsburgh become the first NFL team to win 6 Super Bowls. It even kinda resembled one of the game’s most beloved institutions the “fat guy TD.”**
*Walk off for the end of the half, not the game.
** James Harrison is actually totally shredded, so much so in fact, he looks like a Ninja Turtle with his shirt off. Watching this play, it’s not just his size: big, or his speed: slow, but also all the rumbling, bumbling, & stumbling he had to do just to get to the endzone - where he promptly passed out, more than earning his own bottle of that sweet, sweet victory oxygen.
I’m a Pittsburgh fan, 28 y/o, and this is the best play that I have ever seen in my life, hands down.
Great blocking by the defense too - greatest play of all time
Not one of,,,,THE GREATEST !!!!!!!!
My favorite James Harrison play of all time. Fun fact, after the play, Mike Tomlin goes out there to check on Harrison and says “James, are you alright?” and Harrison just says “I’m tired boss” 😂😂😂😂
❤❤❤wow amazing play 🎉🎉
The most incredible INT for a TD I’ve seen to this day
Yep... Who's Ed Reed!

Ha ha! Good catch
James Harrison became a legend with that play
We won defensive player of the year before the super bowl in 2008. He was already great
Became a legend from being one of the most feared defensive players of all time. Two Super Bowls rings and this play helps.
Oh man, what a golden era to be a Steeler Fan. So many future HOF players... I'd dare to say the Steelers might have been one of the TOP 3 teams in football from 2005-2010. Always a contender, never a losing record, team STACKED with talent. I miss this time, watched this play unfold live at a Superbowl party and the room went bonkers, people jumping and punching the ceiling, hugging, screaming, good times.
and if cowher had stayed the coach they would have won even more Super Bowls, but unfortunately the team was handed off to Tomlin who nearly threw this game away and then squandered the next decade away along with the rest of bens career 😭😭😭
@@21DaHoagie12 Well, Cowher CERTAINLY had a better eye for talent and could put together a stronger roster. No argument there. Tomlin isn't a BAD coach in my opinion, but Cowher could have been a "top 10 of all time" coach had he stuck around just another 3-4 years. I met the guy too, very nice in person.
Should've had another one against Rodgers.
@@21DaHoagie12 Ok, lets not act like Tomlin didn't take them to the AFC championship 2 more times with the team that he made himself. The super bowls were all Cowhers team, but Tomlin coached them to this point. Now that Cowher's entire team has retired, we will see how good of a coach Tomlin really is, and from the looks of it, they are going to be pretty good.
@@mrfrostwing fr tomlin drafted AB, LeVeon, TJ Watt , George Pickens , Cam Heyward, Emmanuel Saunders, Mike Wallace, Decastro and Pouncey and they still hating on him imo the reason why have been stuck as a middle of the road team is due to them hiring mediocre coordinators and Kevin Colbert giving Big Ben too much money and control for too long
I was 5 years old when this happened. I've never seen my dad so excited in my life. I was always a Steelers "fan" since I was born into it, but this game really made me a Steelers fan
As a lifelong Steelers fan, one of the craziest and greatest players I’ve ever seen.
You know what makes it even crazier, Troy had a great pick six against the ravens to get to this game. That defense was so special.
@@jonny4ya Yup. Polamalu being the all timer that he was as a player.
I’m not a Steelers fan but this might be the greatest play in nfl history
This SB had two of the best plays in a SB I’ve seen , the pick six and the Touchdown by Holmes
One of the all time great Super Bowls
Larry Fitzgerald had one of the best forgotten plays of all time
@@MajorMJ24x I was about to say. Fitzgerald's go ahead TD is also one of the greatest SB plays ever.
@@samtheman123 The very best.
@@roblobster10 As a Steeler fan, I agree. Kurt and Larry are some of my all time fav non-Steelers. Fitzgerald is what all WR should aspire to be like. I would have rooted for them in any other circumstance.
Harrison explains this on Footbahlin with Roethlisberger. He says that he faked in order to create space for Timmons to get in (which he does) and then dropped on his own accord even though he could have blitzed because he felt he would not get there on a blitz given how fast Kurt was getting the ball out to that point.
Im here from that too, had to see it again for old times sake, great podcast bens got going!
Same
had to see it after his description.
Yes I love Ben's podcast. Never miss any of them. Loved Harrison and Pouncey on the broadcast
He said it was a max blitz and was supposed to go but dropped, to LeBeau's surprise, lol.
Looks a lot more like a scripted play to me, but w/e. Not like the Steelers have a history of rigging games in the playoffs xD
This has got to be the greatest play in Super Bowl history! Not just because it happened, but because of who did it! Harrison is a HUGE man! Not some little fast guy!
It's very close between this and the Santonio Holmes touchdown pass that won them this game at the end of the 4th.
@JaceFincham and that's why this is the greatest super bowl ever. Sure Tom Brady 28-3 comeback was great but as a steelers fan I'm more biased to this super bowl.
It was the greatest play until Malcom Butler. The actual play by Harrison was better but the stakes and situation goes to Butler.
@@brianc9036The run back sure but the INT itself is a horrible throw by Kurt. He basically gift wrapped that ball.
Hard to believe this guy went undrafted and wasn't a full time starter until he was 29
And cut 4 times!! 3 by the Steelers, once by the Ravens
Greatest interception return for a LB in NFL History 💯
Including “for a LB” was unnecessary
@@MikeKennedyNFL true
@@MikeKennedyNFL ehhhm idk we may have to go back and check it out. It may very well be only for a LB
@@jordananthony5882 Until you can name one better, my point stands
@@MikeKennedyNFL it does I literally went to check myself bc you know we are prisoners of the moment generation without facts but after watching all the SB pick 6's you right my man 😆 no argument there
Still gives me Goosebumps watching. Remember watching this play as a kid. Now I own it on DVD.
Every time I see this I just get so sad for Larry Fitz it was his one chance and this one play changed the whole outcome of the game
Yeah. It’s sad
The effort he gave on this play is legendary 💯💪 shades of Beebe and Leon Lett....if only the ball came...perhaps the outco.e would've been different...who knows.
@@trojandarkhorse2022 if only big Ben hadn't thrown the most accurate pass in Superbowl history
IDK if you can really say that 1 play at the end of the 1st half definitely changed the whole outcome of the game. The Cardinals even had the lead in the late 4th quarter.
Certainly A major play in the game, though.
@@cmdc778 you said it yourself, the Cardinals were winning even after that. It took Big Ben throwing the most accurate pass ever to win.
One of many favorite memories as a Steelers fan! Man I love this franchise so much man! SteelerNationforever!! 🖤💛🖤💛

Two of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history in the same game by the same team. Go Steelers
Fitzgeralds catch was the other great play in this game
Great play for sure. But something we have seen 100 times outside the Superbowl. Slant for 75 yards@@anthonycaruso3688
At 4:08 when Madden said "they can look at it inside out or upside down but, James Harrison got a touchdown there." That confirmed that incredible TD no matter what the Refs thought! 😂 such a great play in SB history
He was 100% down with the ball short of the goal. Should not have been a TD.
@@patrickperot6296he 100% landed on larry’s leg and crossed the plane without being down
What a perfect football play. James Harrison's great timing on the INT and the pure effort to run 100 yards the other way. Deshea Townsend, Brett Keisel, LaMarr Woodley, Ryan Clark and Lawrence Timmons all throwing key blocks on the return. Ike Taylor didn't even throw a block, but essentially sacrificed himself for Harrison by getting inadvertently tackled by Leonard Pope. Also Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston's last-ditch attempt to keep Harrison out of the end zone. It's unreal.
Lol what are you talking about. Kurt just gotta take the sack. It’s a horrible turn over by the QB. Harrison got handed to him on a platter
@@Shatamx Where the hell did I mention Warner?
still get chills 13 years later
This is by far the greatest single play in NFL football history. The cardinals score they go up into the half with momentum and a 14-10 lead. Instead the Steelers go into the half with incredible momentum and a 17-7 lead. Harrison was always an incredible player.
Man, I love hearing Madden's voice!
I worked at a bar in a high end restaurant in Phillly when the Cardinals came into town. I met Calais Campbell who may be the biggest human ive ever met and told him James Harrison was my favorite player and he took it in stride instead of crushing me into a diamond. Tipped well too. Good man.
Crazy play - and I remember watching it live. SO many pieces had to fall in just the right place - bodies flying everywhere during that run-back -- but those pieces fell to the favor of James Harrison. Great player - and one crazy Super Bowl play.
I remember watching this live and it was awesome.
This brings me to tears of Joy 💯 so emotional
Pittsburgh owns the 2 greatest plays in history. The immaculate reception and this play. RIP Franco
Butler INT ranks above this according to everyone
@@trevmac8362 Those people are wrong. Butler didn't return it 100 yards for a touchdown with no time left on the clock.
@@bigbuffguy9589 quite literally delusional to think that butlers int is anywhere close to this lol
@@trevmac8362
The Butler INT was a horrible play call, followed by a bad read when Wilson didn't notice Butler rushing toward the receiver.
The Harrison INT had one of the best pass rushers on the league at the time fake blitz, then drop back into coverage to fool a Hall of Fame QB in Kurt Warner and it actually worked. Then he returned the ball 100+ yds for a TD, with a brigade of blockers charging out in front of him. Which was no accident because they deliberately practices INT returns during practice that week.
Anyone who actually knows anything about football would rank this play much, much higher than the Butler INT. If it wasn't the Patriots Vs. the defending champions, if it was any 2 other teams, it would be like "oh cool INT" but no one would overrate it so much
@@SuperTugz The Harrison INT and run for 99 yards weeing and waving down the sidelines for a TD is the greatest play i ever saw in playoff football *PERIOD* Not to mention the guy almost died by the time he got into the end zone
Beyond Iconic
This never, ever, ever gets old. I've said it a hundred times and I'll say it again...This is the greatest play in Super Bowl History. Eighteen seconds in the half, no second chance, all gas no brake. The game winning catch from Big Ben to Santonio Holmes was great, top 5, but it took a second chance as the first fade to the back left corner fell incomplete, and then the next play was the game winner. However, if not for this herculean effort by James and the team, the Ben to Santonio TD would not have mattered. This is the play that allowed Pittsburgh to win. Still, how blessed were football fans to see TWO of the top 5 greatest plays in Super Bowl history happen in a single game.
Entire game was everything you can ask for in a SB
Major props to the cameraman. What a great get. Excellent coverage on an unbelievable play!
Fun Fact: the penalty during the return was on Pittsburgh area native Reggie Wells.
Went to HS with his Mom. His grandfather was a policeman.
Fun Probability: he's in on it.
This never gets old
Don't forget about the Heart-attackle. This was when Jerome Bettis fumbled at the goal line, and Ben Roethlisberger made a shoestring tackle to help the Steelers go to the Super Bowl in Detroit. James Harrison's interception was definitely a big part of Steeler history. To have John Madden be the commentator was just icing on the cake for this other immaculate event.
Rumblin’! Bumblin’ Stumblin’! HE COULD! GO! ALL! THE! WAY! 😎
R.I.P. John Madden 🙏🏿
0:19 Ryan Clark absolutely annihilates 63 and then runs down for the last block at the goal line
Such a great effort by the entire defense. Troy pushing Fitzgerald out at ruclips.net/video/nUTXpxNA9BI/видео.html also delayed his getting to Harrison.
I wanted the Cardinals to win this game so much....greatest play I've ever seen in any game...period.
Including the Bem to Holmes killing blow
@@jahramika It was far better than the Ben to Holmes game winner. That was the cherry on top, this was the ice cream sunday.
Hard to say which was better but just remember that without the Holmes catch Pittsburgh
probably does not win the superbowl.@@mc1993
Wow!!! Growing up watching this did two things. Made me love playing defense and taught me that even with a great team anything can happen on that field
Love this play!
And that was the day the Steelers decided to make James Harrison their new starting fullback.
James Harrison is a beast. Amazing play. I couldn’t imagine trying to stop him, that would be like trying to stop a freight train. 🤪
I became a steelers fan in 2008. Since they won the Super Bowl that year. I guess I'm a Steelers fan from now to the day I die.
James Harrison OMG one of the best steelers I hope he is in the pro football hall of fame
This play is the definition of hustle and determination.
I’m not a Steelers fan but wow what a run by Harrison and that’s coming from a ravens fan🎉
One greatest miracle and godliest plays and longest 100 yard touchdown for Harrison, also R.I.P to the Legendary Franco Harris.
Possibly the greatest play in the history of sports. Just amazing
All I got to say is this is the Pittsburgh Steelers through and through, this is why I’m a lifetime Steeler and will never change, did you see the wall of yellow in front guys dragging at the end of half but givin 110% to getting that man in the end zone, and Harrison lookin like a ballerina to get that touchdown, what a play, something I will take to my grave with, man o man it’s great being a part of STEELER NATION!!
Love James Harrison!🔥
That was freaking awesome. Harrison was da man. Last bit of glory for us Steeler Nation was in that game.
Watched this Super Bowl down at Wheeling Island Greyhound Track with my S.O. The race card was at 1:00 PM and over in plenty of time for the game. After the race card, the simulcast of other tracks was still going, so instead of going home or wandering over to the casino, everybody stuck around and watched the game from the little TV's at each table, or on one of the screens at the simulcast area.
When Harrison scored, the place went totally bonkers. Wheeling is only about an hour from Pittsburgh, so it was a primarily Pittsburgh crowd there..
Greatest play in football history.
Hard to argue with that. It's a 14 point play... with no time left in the half... every player contributes... several incredible mini-plays made on the field... and James Harrison's personal story. I mean, I'm not sure how any other play will ever top this one.
@@pmthert523 Let it go bro. It most certainty was. Ben's rushing TD vs the Seahawks wasn't, but James' was most def a TD by every rule in the book.
One of the greatest plays in the history of football.
This might be the most incredible superbowl i ever watched.
This is the greatest pick 6 in Super Bowl history and NFL history. After the td he said “I’m tired boss” 😂
Watching this as a kid. Never felt more alive than when Harrison picked it.
I had this exact feeling. Nothing will ever match it
Still remember watching this
Insane man
I ain't gonna lie I remember seeing this live and when Harrison caught that int I thought it was incredible fr still imo a Steelers legend and definitely the best play in the NFL by him 😊😁
0:25 is why players are told to stand behind the white line on the sideline. Look at the Arizona player (#21 with NO HELMET bottom of screen) get in FITZ way of making a tackle on Harrison much sooner.
Best Super Bowl play in my opinion with Hester’s return and tyrees catch . I’m 29 and those stick out
I was just hoping Harrison was ok. I thought was going to pass out. What a great run. Also one of the best Super Bowls we have seen. No I'm not a Steelers fan. What a game it was.
Greatest defensive play! If #15 did not hit Harrison at the 1 yard line, he would not have made it in the end zone. That momentum was the push he needed.
This could not have been any more disastrous for the Cardinals.
14 point swing and the reason they won that superbowl greatest play oat
The greatest play in the history of football.
Wonderful
Iconic.
Hats off to Fitz for not giving up..from a Steeler fan..once he saw down the sideline James was not NOT scoring on that play..grit vs determination from two of the greats..greatest play in SB history
Rumblin and stumblin all the way to the goal baby!!!!
Still gives me the chills.
Will always be my favorite steeler for this.
What a Super Bowl! If only Larry Fitzgerald got his well deserved ring.
Fitz deserved to be on a better team
I miss James, was an increadible asset to the Steelers!

Give it up to Larry Fitzgerald - dude was 20 yards behind Harrison, he never gave up and he was still able to make the tackle.
The fact James called his own number and knew to drop back on an all out blitz call is the biggest football brain move ever. LEGEND
