Pete Seeger recorded ''Big Rock Candy Mountain'' on the Folkways label in 1957. Harry ''Haywire'' McClintock recorded it originally in 1928, and claimed to have written it in 1895. Other covers were made, including Bing Crosby.
Came here via Greg. Loved the crossover and subbed! Keep it up. Can't wait to go through your videos and get some great drinks. A good bbq needs a good drink. Thank you for finding Greg or vice versa.. it's a true win win
Cocktails and Ribs!! Two of my favourites!! Great episode Spike. As soon as we come out of lockdown I’m visiting the Trader Vics London and drinking the menu! 😂
Those ribs looked sooo good!! I love the idea of serving food just as they did with the original drinks, super interesting. Going to watch Ballistic BBQ’s video now!
When you put the citrus shells into the shaker some of the oils in the skin are expressed into the drink as you shake it with the ice which adds a sharp citrus flavor you can't get from just the juice. I do the same thing when I make a Daiquiri--I always drop one of the spent lime shells into the shaker for the same effect.
Incredible Show - one of the best! As a hardcore North Carolina Pork BBQ cook, well done. Oh, and as always I loved the cocktails in the Breezeway too!
The outtakes at the end were fantastic! Is your dog Astro the same Astro that SamTheCookingGuy shouts at all the time. I hope it is.. that would be epic
Another great video in the can! You never fail us Spike! And now I have yet another new RUclips channel to follow! ❤️ Lots of Astro makes everything better too. 😂
Wow, no way! I'd love to see a photo of that!! Is it possible for you to send it to me on Instagram @thehulagirls or email it to me when you get a chance? Info@spikeandthecamera.com
I think I would use a large shaker for the two drinks if I was going to put the shells in the cocktail, then pour in the final cocktail glass for consumption.
Spike I love the hat you are wearing in this video (and previous vids). Looks vintage. What is this style hat called? Captain hat? Sailor hat? Skipper hat? Reminds me of the hats Bob Hope and Bing Crosby would wear in the Road movies whenever they were on a boat, they had to wear this style of hat
Island style BBQ ribs are intimately related to Tiki culture because the original Polynesians not only carried pigs with them on explorations across the South Pacific, pigs were used for all social purposes, and in trades from which men gained tribal power and social prominence. Women are given the task of looking after pigs while men could dispose of them, often performing a ritual slaughter in order to move up to the next social rank. Powerful Polynesians wore jewelry made of wild boar tusks to display their status. Hawaiians bred pigs in large numbers for food and for offerings in religious ceremonies. Tenants on royal land bred pigs both for their own use and for payment of rent to tribal overlords. Hawaiian kings and chiefs demanded that their people supply pigs for religious ceremonies and feasts, and without pork there were no luau feasts at all. For a particular Hawaiian religious ceremony (the Luakini), which was once held over five days, 2240 pigs were sacrificed & roasted. Before a tree is felled to build a canoe, a pig is offered, cooked and eaten as an offering. Following the birth of a child the father offered pigs to the gods so they would look after the child's fate. Pigs were the largest domesticated animal in Hawaii & across the South Pacific, and still remains the most important one in their culture, far more than fish, and were a source of traditional tribal wealth across the Pacific.
Oh, and by the way, I cringed when you used the Appleton 21 yr in a mixed drink, haha. Drink it neat!! Especially at that price although since it was a gift.....
I own an old copy of Vic's Guide to Food and Drink. I fully believe that because these books were for the public, he wasn't about to give his A recipes the way he'd do them in his establishment. Probably why the recipe you guys are doing here doesn't make a lot of logical sense.

"Old enough to drink." Lol! Very thoughtful gift. Nice choice.

BBQ and Tiki go hand and hand Kalua pork, Hawaiian short ribs, HELLO!
Rum punch brings back fuzzy good memories of Jamaica.
And Astro at the end 😂😂😂❤️
He wouldn't leave us alone! 😂
I like the food pairing. I have lots of fond memories of drinking navy grogs and eating cosmo tidbits at Trader Vic's in Emeryville.
How can you go wrong with cocktails and ribs? Great collab!
I’ve been following Greg for some years now, great collab with 2 of my favourite channels!
Aloha from Belgium 🇧🇪

Yeah! I need to try it by itself too. I just remember it being really smooth.
Welcome to the Ballistic BBQ family Spike! Now I'm going to go buy all the ingredients to make this drink. I was wishing I was there with you both.
The outtakes at the end were fantastic!

Great collab. I’ve been subbed to BB and loved seeing you guys together!
Love this collaboration!
Orgeat is a syrup, not a liqueur. Great show, yum! And Trader Vic's in London closed on 31 Dec, 3022, so sad.
Found you on Ballistic BBQ. New sub
Ah cool! Thanks for joining in!
To quote Astro on this entire series "whatever the hell this is, I want more of it"!
Seriously! He was drunk on ribs!!

I’ve seen the Ballistic Burger do a take on the Umami burger
Oh yeah! I've watched a bunch of his burger videos.
Love the crossover was it weird being a guest in the breakaway?
I swear I've been making a similar drink at home for years but it has grenadine and no shell.
Sounds good!
Mmmmm....BBQ
My guess about the fruit shells in the glass is Trader Vics fruit was pre GMO🤙
almost a whisk(e)y smash
