The long and fluff bear coat of a Shar Pei is caused by a recessive gene, which both parents must carry. We do not know on 100% what is causing this gene, but the most likely theory is, that it is throwback to their Chow Chow ancestors. And indeed, the coat of a Chow Chow and bear coat Shar Pei is very very similar.
Other than the coat type, there are not many other differences between the bear coat and traditionally coated Shar Peis. The height, weight and body type, face type, it should all be the same. The typical temperament is also identical for all coat types.

I have a Shar pei. He was born with only three paws but I've had him since a puppy. He goes with me on all my deliveries. With his new leg he gets around a lot better You get him out there in the world and they're gentle. Wonderful sweet dogs. I do love my Hondo

Yeah I got Hondo at home Depot where the breeder was trying to dump him and I confronted her and gave her 100 bucks and told her I wouldn't call a cops and he's been with me ever since for the last 3 years from a puppy
i like the wrinkles of the horse coat but i like the feel of the bear coat

I have a bear coat that I love to the moon. I want to mate him at least one time because he is so beautiful that I wish to have something from him when he is gone. Why they don’t recommend breeding this coat shar Pei?
