- The Chinese Shar Pei has been around for hundreds of years. They were developed to guard, hunt, herd, and later on to fight, unfortunately. Today, they’re known for their characteristic short, bristly coat, loose, wrinkled skin, and devotion to their family.
In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about Chinese Shar Pei.

Shar pei are one of the best breeds.l adopted two. They were rescues. One passed from cancer one from Shar pei fever. I miss them. They were two of the most loving gentle angels.l know we will meet again. They were our babies and will always be forever in our hearts.

I just adopted a 10 month female. She took to the walks and riding in the vehicle extremely quickly. In no time became a part of the family.
How do they do with cats?
@@jamesdemarco6079 l don't know l didn't have a cat at the time. My feelings are we always adopt an adult that way you really know the personality and they have a harder time getting adopted. Best wishes for your journey.

My Shar pei was the most loving and sweet dog I ever owned . He was with me 15 yrs. He was such a wonderful companion and it broke my heart when he passed . I still miss Hooch

I recently got the cutest Shar Pei .He is too adorable, loving, loyal and happy intelligent boy. I should admit I love him already more than my other two Cavoodles .

I had one as a kid, when she passed I swore I’d have another as my own dog. Our first was a purely outside dog, mine now is inside and they are two completely different dogs. Very defensive of our home but also so playful and loving

Shar Pei did not start out being used for fighting. They were originally farm dogs, with a natural vilify to herd, guard, and other general farm tasks. They are wonderful dogs, unfortunately with many issues that are common. If you want one, get one that has less wrinkles, they have less problems than those with tons of wrinkles.
ANY Book on Shar-Pei, Tells You that Shar-Pei were used as Fighting Dogs( due to Their Excessive Skin) !

"Aloof with strangers" oh, are they ever!! I had a miniature shar pei and she was the sweetest babe you could ever imagine...until a new person walked through the door. One time, my uncle came over to visit (for some context, my family is fairly white on my father's side, but they adopted my uncle at a young age, who is black) and she became so scared by his presence, she peed herself the moment he came onto the porch! I dont think she ever seen a true black man until that point, since we lived wayyy out in the country. And she was terrified! Barked at him everytime he moved. It was hilarious because my uncle is such a gentle giant and an even bigger dog lover. But the sheer presence of him was enough to freak her right out.
I’ve had two Shar Pei. They are awesome dogs. Smart, strong, loving, gentle, and so cool. I called my boy fat nose and fat momo. The dogs are just fantastic.
I have a shar pei she's only 2 years old but iv had her sense she was 10 weeks old she's so loving , caring , kind hearted , smart, and funny cracks me up every day and definitely loves to guard alot and watch but shes definitely stubborn on certain things shar peis are definitely one of the best dogs but definitely recommended training and socialized but another thing thats not in the video iv learned is shar peis are easy to potty train
We have had 4 wonderful shar-pei. They have been wonderful. Our first boy we had for 10 years and lost him to Blot, our girl we lost at 10 years from the county flew over our
home spraying for the apple moth. That’s what the Vet. Said.
Our next a brother and sister we got at 8 weeks, We lost our boy at 4 years to kidney failure, and our girl at 14 years from a massive stroke.
We miss everyone of them terribly. They were the loves of our life.
I miss my Shar Pei. He used to let out gas when exited, and when I drove him to the park I had to roll down my windows! He was a good boy!😂
My first dog was a sharpeii her name was chocolate. she was the best she was blind and deaf. RIP chocolate I miss you
My family rescued one named Chitlins. Changed it to Coco which registered name of Lady Cocolamo. (Previous dog was registered as Lord Ruffington - Ruffy)
May 11 yo pei died last Nov 2 I miss so much..

I currently have my 3rd Shar-Pei, Halle Beary. There is Nothing, like the Companionship of a Shar-Pei. I'm Honored,to be Their " Person". I would definitely recommend a Chinese Shar-Pei ( especially if you're a Dog-Lover).

We had one who lived up to 15 years.
If You get your Shar-Pei from a Reputable Breeder, that is the Average Lifespan. Breeders are currently doing Testing, to Match Breedings,for a Healthier Lifespan. The Organization to Help with getting a Healthy Shar-Pei is CSP ( Chinese Shar-Pei Society). They have a Monthly Publication.

@@jmpunzalan6043 they will bark quite a bit as puppy's bu thave had mine for two years they become quiet and dosile except when approaching a stranger or dog that shows aggression

I have a rescue Shar pai dog around 12 to 14 mths old, He is so beautiful & we have grown close very quickly , He has a best friend he lives with a big brown labradore he uses as a chew toy. I have noticed his fur on his face is looking agrevated, is this likley to be a grass reaction, ?
Shar peis can have all sorts of allergies it could be from grass or the food you feed him / her or anything really I definitely would go to vet to see
No this is usually a seasonal effect that may show a little more during shedding but they do have little hair or very short at least on the forehead and muzzle
I have a bone mouth he's a fantastic guard dog... Even if he does bark at shadows going across the front door 🙄🤣

Oh I love dogs. I have a loving chichuchu. The incident I mentioned about a Shar biting me has to fall on the dog owner. This poor Shar lives on the second floor in my building and her kid brings the dog down to pee maybe 3 times a day. Other than that the dog is alone until the owner gets off work and the kid comes home from school. I feel sorry for this dog b/c he's lonely and has no dog or people contact to socialize him for what's beyond their resident. 😥

Well my Shar Pei is a terrorist lol I love him so much and he's sweet but he never wants to stop chewing things. Extensive training hasn't helped. He will eat anything. Wood, metal lol He wants to play 24/7

They are wonderful! I have had two of them & they were excellent family dogs & also protected my kids & grandkids! They were good at everything! I live in Montana & we used them as sled dogs! We loved them & still miss thence!

Yeah,…Shar Pei are arseholes, particularly the puppies. Actually, most dogs are horrid. Best to keep away from them.
Sorry to disappoint to your opinions of the Shar pei. My neighbor bought her son a pei puppy. As the puppy grew, the pup got real aggressive. Out in my private yard the 40 pound puppy charged at me and bite a chunk out of my leg. The owner swore she was attempting to get obedient training...to late! Now her dog has a record of biting.
More than likely wasn’t trained / guided with love. All of the Shar Peis I’ve been very loving and sweet, sorry that happened to you
Sorry that happened to you, but that is ultimately the fault of the owner. I adopted a 5 year old Shar Pei mix who is a bonemouth in all but her thicker winter coat. Whoever raised her did very well in socializing her as she loves greeting other dogs and has happily played with dogs as big as a cane corso/rottweiler mix and been considerate of dogs as tiny as a teacup Yorkie. She is polite but generally aloof to strange humans, only having growled at men when I walk her at night and she suspects them of being a danger to me (one in particular started verbally taking frustration out on me because I paused by him). Even then, that's only happened a handful of times and I walk her every night. We came across one guy she growled at later during the day and she was perfectly polite and well-behaved.
As the video says, the shar pei is a guardian dog. All guardian dogs require training and socialization or the natural guard behavior will get out of hand and they turn aggressive.

Sorry you had this experience..please remember, it’s not the dog’s fault, it’s the owners fault. She’s supposed to be the pack leader, sounds like she’s not a good animal parent. I’ve had 3 chow-chow and currently have 3 Shar pei, if those two breeds aren’t socialized properly, any owner would have a hard time with them.
Breeding dogs with weird features like wrinkle skin or short legs is fucking cruel to the animal. Animal eugenics is underrated.
