So I'm sure we would all love to save a bit of extra fuel on those long straight road getting from one camp spot to the next..
So my upgrading your 5 gear to an overdrive gear you will lower the engine revs at high speeds - saving you that fuel!
This Marks 4WD Adaptors kit (www.marks4wd.com/low-range-ov... a simple install for the Nissan Patrol 5 speed. So hopefully this help a few of you out there who are looking for a bit more practicality out of your LS swapped rig!

My Story
For the past few years I have become more and more obsessed with travelling this great country in a 4WD. Just getting from point A to point B with the maximum amount of fun and excitement it what it’s all about for me.
My first 4WD was a Nissan Patrol and I have had one ever since, this build is my take on what would make the ultimate touring vehicle to do what I love most.
I hope to one day built myself a 4WD empire to make the unreachable, reachable to others. By providing them with a means of transport like to other, transport that is BUILT NOT BOUGHT…

Little tip mate, buy yourself a deep fryer from K-mart for like $30 fill it with ATF and use that to heat your interference parts works a treat!!!
Would of loved to know the difference it made on road.

I just purchased a upgrade kit from drivetech 4x4 for my Patrol, so I'm guessing between the release of this video and now, other companies are now on the band wagon of upgrading the fifth gear, which is awesome, I can't wait to see what the difference is going to be with it

good work on the clips bro if you put them in backwards you end up with a super sticky gear change.. not fun when the box has to come back out...
Classic patrol thing though, 4th and 5th are literally almost the same, Mine is overdrive but still almost no difference, tends to sit around 2.8 - 3K rpm @ 100-110kmh. I also have that same Gregory's manual and it is a damn life saver, every little tiny thing you can ever think of, it's in it.
It's the same in my NG Pajero, 5th only drops about 200 revs from 4th and I'm still sitting at 3k at 100km/h
Gorim33 not really much of an issue though, especially if you’re boosted, it’s a pretty optimal rpm for power and economy.
Test drive can’t be done without a motor it just won’t happen!!

Could you have dont that with leaving the gear box in?
The damage to oem 5th gear would have be from towing heavy in 5th gear or using 5th gear in low range, both a no no for the 5th gear being the weakest and being the overdrive gear. 4th gear 1:1 is where it is at for heavy towing and low range.
thinking of doing this 5th gear mod, do you have any info on what the rpm sits on now at 110 kph?

You think theres the same 5th gear upgrade for a Pajero 2.8 M/T? It feels slow. Want it to go faster on a fifth gear.

Probably hard since I assume he filmed this while the ute was being built, so never drove it with the standard gear

Mate done something similar on his cruiser dropped revs about 200 rpm roughly or u could call and ask the supplier maybe

Because of the transfer case on the back of the box and the fact marks 4wd does adapters for just about anything for a patrol and landcruiser

Heat on bearing not recommended
it wil be fine mate, very common practice to heat bearings
150°C woulda been fine
lindsay obrien yeah any hotter then 150 degrees and you will be doing damage to the bearing
common to heat them with oxy/acet and spit on it, when the spit sizzles it's ready to go, done in caterpillar dozer final drives all the time, way more expensive then a gu gearbox, doesn't fail
@@brianwynn5081 yeah we use an old electric frypan with atf and heated them up that way. Works really well. Plus the smell of cooked atf going through workshop is like a two stroke smoke, you know its bad for you but you take deep breaths and inhale that bitch. haha
Please note that the cruise control won't be working at 5th gear.
