I had to go back and read about Hector. Hilarious. They also had a fun bit about Dick Stuart being a horrible fielder and nicknamed Stonefingers and The Boston Strangler
@@tseanshannon “An attitude so cavalier and arbitrary as to hardly constitute an attitude at all.” That’s brilliant writing right there. And yes, the write-up on Stonefingers was also hilarious.
Nice score T Sean, always nice to knock another 'want' off your collection list. Nice color as well, give me good color and rounded edges and a missing chunk all day over faded color and sharp corners.
Totally agree. I was super impressed with the color. And the best part on knocking it off my list, I kind of stopped searching for it, because the one time I did, the lowest price I saw was $35. Then I just stumble across it. It really made my weekend. I got something I forgot I wanted.
I got the “Flipping..” book as a kid right after it came out and was really fascinated by the Gus Zernial card and was able to get one at my first card show in ‘75, and yep I still have it. Super cool card! Of course financially I should had been fascinated by the Sandy Koufax rookie card instead, oh well….
That book is kick ass. And it was before the internet so I discovered a ton of cards thru the book. And I had never thought about it, but it helped inspire the idea behind Baseball Card Theater.
I think you'll dig that book. I see it every once in a while at a used book store. It's also the perfect book for the bathroom. You can read it a couple pages at a time.
I didn't know he was a sports reporter. I saw a news clip were they talked about his book which was called Osark Ike. And you're right... A Very cool nickname.
Gus definitely did not need help attaching those balls to the bad or hitting six home runs in three games, I however, need help getting caught up on tsean's videos.
Ha! Got to love a guy named Granny! 😂 The 52 Topps Gus Zernial is such a cool looking card! Love that set!
Love Granny. A ton of players from the 50's had great names. Smokey, Dizzy, Herb Score.
Getting Statler and Waldorf from the Muppets? Nice!
I LOVE YOU KNOW THEIR NAMES. My favorite show growing up. It was a show that me and my dad both thought was funny.
That book is hilarious! The write-up on Hector Lopez is my favorite!

I love you got the book when it was first published. Not sure I would have got how cool the book was when I was a kid.
@@tseanshannon Rereading the book as an adult there were many jokes I finally got that were “over my head” during my first readings.
Love your videos. Nice catch on the Gus card!!!
Thanks. I was so happy to find it. So cool to find something you forgot you wanted.
Had this book since I was a kid, great comments in there!
Yeah, it was the perfect bathroom book. Couple pages at a time.
I love that book! It’s hilarious.

Great job, man. Love the Gus!
Thanks. I was super jazzed when I saw it.
What a cool card. I never saw it in person either
I dig when you see a card you're familiar with but have never seen in person. Then it was in my price range. The planets were aligned for me that day.
I’d trade a crispy Alexander Hamilton for the Gus all day! Gotta check out that book..great stuff T Sean

Gus later was a longtime sports reporter in Fresno California. Also known as Osark Ike, cool nickname.

Lovely....keep it going when you find odd or hidden gems or lil pieces of printed cardboard. HA

Fun fact: Zernial is the dude that introduced Marilyn Monroe to Joe DiMaggio.
I knew he had a DiMaggio connection. Cool fact. Thanks for telling me.
Painted on balls
Good joke. Wish I would have thought of it...
