    I usually rent places with a full kitchen, but regardless, a 6 cup rice maker fits nicely in luggage if you are flying and you can make anything you need simply need yo boil. Breakfast: steel cut oatmeal(keep the lid off so it doesn’t cook over) with dried fruit added, grits (long cooking)… stir in some cheese after it is cooked if you want cheesey grits. My favorite rice cooker supper… in your rice cooker, place 1.5 c white rice, 2 bullion cubes, poultry seasoning to taste, 1 can of chicken including can juices, dehydrated carrots and peas (or frozen or fresh), add water up to the “2 serving line” plus just a little bit more if using dehydrated veggies. Turn on your rice cooker this make 2 very generous servings or a decent meal for 3. The rice cooker is easy to clean and stash away before you leave your hotel room. You can also hard boil eggs in it, heat soups, stews. If your rice cooker came with a steamer basket you have even more options for simple easy to cook meals. I’m often traveling for weeks at a time and I am finding more and more hotels are going to beverage coolers instead of actual refrigerators in rooms, which don’t keep food adequately cold. It’s very hard to get a good cooler on a plane unless you want to use it as a luggage allowance or pay extra for it… so meals not requiring a refrigerator are a plus. If you look around you can often find disposable dish cloths already impregnated with dish detergent so you don’t have to carry liquid dishwashing liquid on a plane.

    I love your videos. That would be an amazing hotel room meal! We have really enjoyed our lunch box oven for traveling. I start a freeze dried meal (it reconstitutes while it heats) around mid morning, and after an hour or so we start looking for a scenic spot to pull off to have a nice hot lunch. We do the same thing in the evening, though we often just bring the already hot meal up to our hotel room to eat it.

    I did a lot of hotel cooking when I was working. I tried many "tools" over the 10 years that I traveled (one overnight a week). One of my favorites was a 7" electric frying pan. I would use it to make "soup to nuts." I now have a camper van that is complete with a fridge and induction hob. I agree with the high price of restaurants. I took my wife out for breakfast. The food was (honestly) very sub-par. the cost? $55 for two breakfasts including coffee and tips. Holy cow!

    You have inspired me to dig out my sous vide and use it to prep meat for freeze drying. This looks delicious and could easily be a quick meal at home.

    my husband and I just drove from Oregon to the tip of Baja Mexico (we do this 2 x /yr)...we always travel with hotel meals...generally dinner and a snack, breakfast if one isnt included in the hotel stay. One issue we ran into is that 1 of our standard hotels (Wyndam/Days Inn just outside of LA in LeBec) had removed the fridge, coffee maker and microwave from all their hotel rooms. The staff didn't know why, we decided either survey showed too few people used them, or were breaking them or stealing them.They did have access to one microwave and hot water in the lobby however no refridgerator... Another Wyndam/Days Inn (in RedBluff CA) we stayed in actually had a list of charges, your hotel room would be charged, for missing items...including: coffee pot, microwave, fridge, remote, towels, even the cheap plastic ice bucket... it was very strange. So... we will now begin traveling with our little camping stove set up to heat our personal freeze dried dinners...we bring popcorn as a snack but we'll need to rethink that. We also have a fridge in our car, when moving it charges on the electric and when parked (over night) it runs off propane...life saver. Question...do you carry your own water for use? or do you use tap? or tap and filter? we bring ours in a couple 5 gallon containers, we do travel into Mexico so tap is out of the question...we do carry bleach as a water purification back up too.

    I love you two. I love all of your wonderful ideas. They're well thought out and executed. And, there's a but, you eat too much food. I'll be retired 5 years this month. I've dropped from 170 to 134 pounds. I'm still very active, but I just eat less. I just don't need three full meals a day. I pray that y'all enjoy life to the fullest.

    The Shore Stays Hotel in Cape Charles Virginia has a small kitchen. My husband and I stayed there and it was great to be able to cook meals. I have food allergies so my going out to eat is very limited. They have a full size stove, pots and pans, kitchen sink and cabinets and a full sized fridge. They even have a pub sized dining table and chairs. If you go to the website you can see the rooms. Nice place, nice people and very clean.

    Love your videos. We, too, are trail grazers except in a Jeep Rubicon with a rooftop tent. We have a 12V fridge on a slide with drawers next to it to house our pots/pans and implements. I am looking forward to the book and preparing 60 days of meals that I can pull for our camping adventures. Since we live in the South in the mountains we can winter camp most of the season.     Yummy!! Ouch, $50. + tip for that meal, wow!! Thank you for reminder, why we don't eat out. We favor our own meals. While out and about shopping, every now & then we will stop and eat but few and far between. Your meal looks delicious.

    We use our 12 volt oven a lot when traveling. We are usually in our motorhome and when we stop for the night our dinner is ready.
