Kirishima's actions in this episode are so inspiring precisely because of how afraid he is. Deku and All Might move before even thinking, but a lot of people stay crippled with fear, and Kirishima was one of them. He doesn't *want* to stand there and get hurt, he wants to run away, but he stands his ground and forces himself to withstand it *despite* his fear, because that's what a hero does. He froze once and chose to never do it again.
Spot on
exactly why he is one of my top 5 fav characters in mha
Yeah, Kirishima is rad. Deku will start moving to save someone before he even has a chance to be scared, but Kirishima has a chance to realize that he’s actually terrified, but THEN is able to force himself to charge in anyway.
Something to note.
Kirishima got back up, he tanked like dozens of punches, then he threw his OWN PUNCH, just ONE. And Rappa's partner threw up a SHIELD.
He wrote Kirishima off as basically useless, then ONE punch had him so afraid he built a wall between them.
Damn.
Pretty sure that guy was just paranoid. He really wasn't a good pick to side with Rappa; they're personalities didn't mesh at all.
@@HaydrogenBomb HE looked at Kirishima, labeled him as a shield only, then said "nah, he's not even that."
He never showed any sign he's absurdly cautious, Kirishima just intimidated him that much.
This is something people forget but kirishima’s hardening isn’t armor it’s his own flesh so those pieces falling off are literally flesh, the anime really censored a lot in the manga he was all bloodied when he passed out
Crimson Riot's interview is such an inspiring and hard-hitting scene, for Kirishima and the reader/audience. I really wish we got to see more of this guy; I see why Kirishima looks up to him so much.
Especially since he died in the line of duty shortly after that interview. It’s so cool but melancholy at the same time
A spear and a shield. The victory is ours. Love how this anime lets side characters shine. Truly an incredible moment
About Mina's look: in her character profile in the manga Horikoshi said that due to effects of her quirk it's boasts a strange pigment that made her skin purplish pink. As well with her sclera, but it can turn white if she'll overuse her quirk. Fun fact: her horns supposed to be even bigger but it was hard to mangaka to draw it every time so he came up with the current design. Also, people think that her name is a wordplay with an 'amino acid ' term.
I absolutely love those little details Horikoshi gave to his characters. It really shows how much author loves and cares about his creation and characters. You totally can say he puts his soul in the story
Stuff like this makes me wanna read the manga, if for no other reason than to see more of his original work.
I saw a RUclips clip of recent manga panels where she has patches of normal color on her face from using so much acid.
@@sea-envy3137 What's her regular skin rltone? I'm picturing her to be more on the tan side.
@@HaydrogenBomb i can't remember more fair than tan i think
Kirishima's story is really inspiring. Crimson Riot really was speaking truth. That it's ok to be afraid, and using the fear of the results of not doing something to overshadow the fear of jumping in
This episode just hits so hard. The emotions he feels are so real and raw. This episode always hits like a train no matter how often I see it. This made Kirashima a ALL TIME favorite character regardless of genre.
"What are you talking about? Of course I'm afraid! Show me someone who isn't afraid of dying, and I'll show you a moron!"
I loved that line. Being brave doesn't mean being fearless, but willing to stand and face your fears. Reminds me of that scene from the dark knight rises and he's trying to climb to freedom to save gotham from bane
correction: Bravery is acting without fear. *Courage* is acting in spite of it.
For Kenny: big guy was there because his master needed someone to hunt down strong-quirk individuals to feed on while he was in hiding. Note that the hero he was searching for was the Spring Hero, and one of AFO's favorite present day powers is spring like limbs. Most likely, Giganto found his victim eventually.
14:30 One good example is Tokoyami. His Quirk is entirely unrelated to him looking like a Bird but he most likely had someone in his family tree who had a Bird quirk and he inherited those traits but also got some traits that manifested as him having a Shadow Quirk.
I'm not sure about that, Dark Shadow itself could be the "inherited" aspect of his quirk. A new iteration of the shadow quirk along with the "randomness" of Tokoyami's own bird related quirk combining. Or maybe bloodline wise he is like Shoto in a way and dark shadow is the result of quirks combining through generations. Or it could just be total randomness.
I think that is why quirks aren't really all that well explained in depth. That way you can just chalk anyone's quirk to randomness.
If I recall correctly, there manga describes quirks as Emitter, Transformation, and Mutant types. Then there’s what’s called heteromorphic type quirks that are directly linked to the physical form of the person, like ojiro’s tail quirk. But there’s also physical traits that are passed down that don’t directly relate to a person’s quirk, like with Tokoyami’s bird head or Kota’s rocky looking head (he’s the student who can speak to animals).
Emitters are like Bakugo’s Explosion or Eraserhead’s Quirk Nullification. Transformation is like Kirishima’s Hardening or Sun Eater’s Manifestation. And mutant is like Ojiro’s Tail or Sue’s Frog.
Kirishima with his red hair down is my favorite look tbh
Fun fact: Mina is canonically cupioromantic! It means she wants a romantic relationship but doesn’t actually feel romantic attraction! It doesn’t mean she can’t be in a romantic relationship, she absolutely can, but it’s definitely not the same. I saw an artist, who absolutely made me ship kiribakumina and still managed to do a piece about Mina’s sexuality. They’re all so cute, and those two boys would worship her, even without her being romantically attracted to them. She’s also the second person to be canonically queer! (That I know of) the first being Toga, who is canonically bisexual! I think it’s so fucking cool that Horikoshi canonically made one of the girls most excited about romance a not-as-well-known aromantic sub group!
I really like the definition of manly that Kirishima has.
He is passionate about it and not in a toxic way. And is really difficult to do that.
For him it doesn't have to do anything with gender or things like that. He considers manly whatever thing that it's honorable and good.
I personally love that and I love when authors do that honestly
Case in point, he finds Mina to be incredibly manly. It's not about gender, it's a way to describe people who embody the traits he admires
"The ones who are actually the worst didn’t even show up." Thank you for changing my brain chemistry lmao
14:00 Basic breakdown on quirks, their categorization, and quirk genetics (Spoiler-free);
-Emitter
Emitter-type quirks generally allow the user to produce, control, or alter various things. This is the widest category of quirks, including things like Bakugo's Explosion, Todoroki's Half-Hot, Half Cold, Shinso's Brainwashing, Aizawa's Erasure, and Yaoyorozu's Creation.
-Transformation
Transformation-type quirks temporarily alter the user's body in some way, like Kirishima's Hardening or Pro Hero Edgeshot's Foldabody. A lot of quirks might seem like they would fall into this category, but are actually Emitter or Mutant-type quirks, so this is definitely the smallest category of quirks.
-Mutant
Mutant-type quirks, also known as Heteromorphic quirks, give the user physical characteristics that differ from a normal human. Mutant-type quirks include Ojiro's Tail, Shoji's Dupli-Arms, or Spinner's Gecko. Some people also have minor Mutant-type quirks mixed with their own quirks, traits that alter their physical appearance like Bubble Girl or Ashido's different skin colors, Tokoyami's bird head, and Kirishima's pointed teeth. This could also potentially be an in-universe explanation for the wide variety of unusual hair colors, though it might just be typical anime logic.
-Accumulation
Accumulation-type quirks aren't really their own category, more of a sub-category. They usually present as Emitter-type quirks, but a few of them are Transformation-types. Accumulation-type quirks have to be charged up with some kind of power or resource before being used. Accumulation quirks include One for All and Fat Gum's Fat Absorption. One for All is technically classified as an Emitter-type quirk, while Fat Absorption is a Transformation-type quirk, but both of them operate by storing up some kind of power. There are several other Accumulation-based Emitter-type quirks in the series, but I can't go into details because of spoilers.
Quirk genetics can be very weird, but most of the time a child will be born with a quirk that is similar to one of their parents or a combination of both. There are occasional anomalies, like Deku being born quirkless, but most of the time, there will be some kind of link between a child's quirk and one or both of their parents. For example, Bakugo's father sweats a substance with minor combustive properties that can create small explosions if he rubs his hands together. Bakugo's mother can secrete glycerin from her skin. Bakugo has the ability to produce a substance that is similar to nitroglycerin, then ignite it.
Let's use Mina Ashido as an example. Her quirk allows her to produce acid from her skin, but she also has pink skin and small, curly horns on her forehead. While random mutations are definitely possible, it's more likely that one or both of Mina's parents have acid-related quirks, as well as passing down some minor mutant quirks, producing her unique skin and horns.
One last thought experiment. This one's just my personal theory, and as far as I know it hasn't been confirmed or denied. I'm not a manga reader, so there might be a more definitive answer there, but this is just based on the anime. One for All seems to present in two distinctly different ways for All Might and Deku. All Might's power just seems to be a simple strength multiplier that tremendously enhances his physical ability when activated. It produces no exterior signs other than All Might's massive physique. Deku's power, on the other hand, presents in the form of a crackling green energy that surrounds his entire body. These are two very different visible effects, with the only common factors between them being the immense boost to physical ability and the fact that both Deku and All Might were quirkless before receiving One For All. The last piece of the puzzle is Deku's parents. It's mentioned in the first episode that Deku's father can breathe fire, and his mother has a minor telekinesis quirk that allows her to pull small objects toward herself. Both of these quirks would be classified as Emitter-type quirks. Based on all of this information, I theorize that when One For All is passed on to a quirkless individual, it visually presents in a manner that corresponds to what that individual's quirk would have been, had they not been born quirkless. Deku most likely would have been born with an Emitter-type quirk, either some form of telekinesis or energy manipulation (probably fire or some other kind of plasma.) Therefore, when he received One For All, it visually behaved as a form of energy emitted from his body. We don't know what quirks All Might's parents had, if they had quirks at all, but I imagine that All Might would have had some kind of quirk that didn't have especially flashy visible effects, aside from possibly an enhanced physical physique or some form of muscular hypertrophy.
Two things: One, though Mina's horns are a genetic byproduct of her family, the pink skin is, I believe confirmed in a book, caused due to the acid running through her body.
Secondly. All Might doesn't transform when he uses his quirk, it's one of the few times where the comic really suspends your disbelief for the sake of character design.
All Might (not to be confused with Small Might) is what he looked like during most of his professional career in Japan. You'd be walking around and see that guy and that's just him, buying groceries or whatever.
Small Might is severe muscle atrophy, caused by his time being bedridden after his fight against All For One. He was never able to regain that muscle because physical strain that would be required at the gym hurts him.
What Small Might does to become All Might is, as Small Might described it in the second episode, "a fat guy sucking in his gut at the pool to appear skinny". All Might is just flexing extra hard to show off all of the muscles that atrophied. Ironically this actually taxes him more. It's likely he coulf use All For One without looking shredded but because he needs to keep the image of the Symbol of Peace he has to stay in muscle form. But since he still tenses his body to throw a punch it might result in constant transfornations as certain limbs grow and shrink depending on what's being tensed and flexed in that moment.
Of course in the real world, even on the most sleeping builds ever, flexing your entire body wouldn't mske you grow 3 feet or anything else but again, cartoon.
I think the reason deku gets green electricity around him is because his body can't hold all of the energy of one for all. His body isn't muscular enough to contain it all, so some of it spills out into the area around him. The electricity could likely decrease as he shapes his body into a better vessel for the power. This could also mean he gets more powerful, even while using the same percentage as before, as his body wouldn't be wasting that electricity by letting it off, it could all go into whatever action he wants it to.
Mina’s skin color is pH thing. Idk if the author came up with that or it’s a fan theory, but acidic pHs can change certain materials’ colors (like litmus paper) more red. Hence, Mina’s pink complexion. I’ve also heard that in the more recent chapters, she pushed her quirk so far that one of her eyes isn’t black any more for the same sort of reason. Less acid, so her eye became a different color.
I personally think she should change colors like those mugs that get designs when they get hot. As she uses her acid, she loses her pink complexion, and if she pushes too far, she gets pale and blue.
They really should have used Just Another Hero for Kirishima here.
"I was a dropout and coward
Sick and tired of my weakness
More I buck for the power
More I'm broken, more I'm frightened
But that's the time I must be strong
"Why I damage myself, again and again,
is simply For the victims of sorrow
I'll be the man even if I'm just another hero"
I said it once and I’ll say it again, here’s to Kirishima, the manliest man to ever man!!!!
Fun fact, Mina Ashido looks the way she does because of her containing her own quirk. If she overuses her quirk her scalera turn white and her skin turns pale.
And don't forget about her eyes they change back as well
@@marceliusbyrd9162 I said scalera
I've always loved how casually the series reveals that Mina and Kirishima go way back.
She just comes around the corner in the flashback, and your brain connects the dots.
Also, yes. I do ship Kirimina. 😁
Edit: Also also, these two might've noticed it, but I've never heard them bring it up. So I'll say it again: Mina has the same English VA as Winry from FMAB!
Too bad we have to rely on fanfics for Kitimina content.
@@valentinkambushev4968 As of this date . . .
(At 7:00) I like this one, "Rappa". He shows pride AND respect.
(At 4:10) At this point, their conversation here makes me start to ALMOST sympathize what they're fighting for AND who they're truly loyal to.
14:07 PFFF,of course a person with a bubble power wouldn't be a bubble themselves kenny,
that would be way too silly and unserious 😆😆
...
A WASHING MACHINE THO
The dirty bubble is extremely offended by Kenny's remarks
LKMAOOOO
I still can't believe that guy is one of Japan's top-ranked Pros.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaash
Momo would actually benefit from being at Fatgums agency. Fat gum and sun eater both have food based quirks like yoamomo
I’ve seen some great fanart of her working with them! It’s awesome! And as much as it sucks Magic is dead now (for her, cuz we never knew the guy) it does mean we could absolutely see him taking her under his wing
Oh boy I love long backstory flashbacks in the middle of a fight that just tells us that the character wants to do better. SOOOOO exciting.
Gigantomachia only does whatever AFO has told him to do, so he must have been running some errand for him... probably hunting for some specific quirk AFO wanted to add to his collection.
Someone else said he was looking for a Spring Hero’s agency, and AFO frequently uses Spring-Like Limbs.
Another fun fact, ashidos skin is like that because it resists her own acid so she dosent hurt herself a lot
“The really impressive thing is being the worst, and just doing it anyway.”
I love that! I ran a 5k and came in dead last in my division, but what nobody else knew was that I have a neurological condition & my neuro was sure I’d be walking with a cane for the rest of my life. I wanted to finish to prove that I could. I’ll never do it again, it was awful 😂
Still one of my favorite episodes out of the entire series. This dude Kirishima does _not_ get enough credit.
Kirishima gets to shine again!
I don’t think I need to tell people that this episode is one of the fan favorites of the season and a LOT of people were waiting for this one. Kirishima fans are hopping for this episode and there’s just SO much great character to be found here.
Amajiki is off the table. He gave all the Yakuza minions octopus neurotoxins and I looked up what they do. HOLY CRAP HE TURNED OFF THEIR NERVES. Depending on dosage it IS lethal but it disrupts nerve transmission on non-lethal dosages. Those guys are OUT. But he did use almost everything he has currently available and has little he can contribute to the waves ahead that are fresh for a fight.
The boss of the Shie Hassaikai is a weird one. It’s not like he was uninvolved in crime and turf wars. I did look into the differences between the Yakuza and the Mob and I found it’s actually completely legal to be apart of the Yakuza since being apart of organized crime is not illegal in Japan. (Hence why these villains are registered with their quirks and other details) Presumably you’re charged on your own merits not with the group. They have stricter codes of conducts as other big organized crime groups and are a little more how shall we say “clean.” So it stands to reason the boss was clinging to the base Yakuza operations and Overhaul was LOT more willing to push towards the ACTUAL mob, mafia, and cartel practices which are a LOT more notorious for their dark practices. And the minions Bubble Girl and Centipeder catch follow the boss more than their fear of Overhaul. And while they resist, they IMMEDIATELY start talking once they’re caught because they don’t agree with his methods. Their sentences are likely going to be VERY light considering their immediate cooperation. They likely were never going to even try to kill or anything but just disrupt ENOUGH that Overhaul wouldn’t kill THEM.
Now the next wave starts as Mimic pushes Kirishima and Fat Gum into them. They don’t disarm, but they can do WAY more to wear you down. These two are probably the most physically taxing to go against. One beats you, the other makes you beat yourself. Rappa the bruiser IMMEDIATELY breaks Kirishima’s arms RIGHT through his Unbreakable. (His shoulders rotate at immense speeds but he can only do it for a few seconds at a time) And Tengai can stop Rappa’s barrages with ease and those are pretty rough for BOTH Kirishima and Fat Gum. And keep in mind, while Kirishima pushes more carbon to the surface for his armor, that’s his ACTUAL skin. So those gashes are HORRIFIC. There’s a LOT of censoring in this fight because these two are MESSED UP by the end.
To put in perspective how strong Rappa is, Fat Gum doesn’t give an OUNCE of a crap if he’s shot, and there’s an implied feat he can take a literal MISSILE without worrying about it triggering. So Rappa is one of the strongest bruisers we’ve seen. Right up there with Muscular. So wearing down Fat Gum like this is just an ABSURD feat. And I just LOVE how excited this guy gets for fighting. I can make a LOT of comparisons to Muscular and this guy. He’s less chaotic probably more powerful but I would argue less dangerous. He’s like an evil Goku. SUPREMELY hyped to fight.
And then there’s Kirishima. This has been boiling under the surface for a LONG time. He’s talked nonstop about being manly across the entire show. And while that seems like a whatever personality, it takes on a whole new life here. He’s obsessed with it because he is constantly worried and insecure about his own manliness. Say you’re manly enough and sooner or later people will wonder if you really believe that. He wants to stand up to everything but struggles to stand up for himself. And this explains why he’s such good friends with Bakugo who stands up to everything regardless too. Amajiki likely saw right through him when he invited him to Fat Gum’s agency. And Fat Gum seems to specialize in caring for and helping the depressed. This is just such a huge revelation for Kirishima.
Because not standing up is just such a MASSIVE issue for Kirishima, he’s been told and telling himself again and again TO stand up and is constantly inspired by those that do. While not standing up to a 15-20 foot villain IS understandable in middle school, that never mattered to who he’s tried to be. (The villain said “Everything is for my Master” and only a few characters have been referred to as such. One is Nana Shimura…and the other is AFO himself. So that’s not terrifying implications for that hero agency he was asking for directions to. That hero probably is not alive and I don’t think the agency is intact when he DID find it) Kirishima has watched so many people stand up and that’s what is meant to be his thing. Everyone he’s been with are those that preface that point. And his main inspiration is Crimson Riot yes, but it’s mainly MINA who has always been the type to cheer everyone up and break fights that way. (And there is ZERO chance she’s not interested based on how she talks to him in front of UA) All his inspirations have just propped him up and now all he can think about is never backing down and going without regrets.
Fat Gum is protected JUST long enough to stabilize himself as Kirishima and I’m not kidding BREAKS ALMOST HIS ENTIRE SKELETAL SYSTEM to stand up to Rappa. (Don’t worry now that Deku’s broken bone record is broken, it’ll 100% stay in Kirishima’s hands) Bakugo, Crimson Riot, Fourth-Kind, Tetsu, Mina, Amajiki, Fat Gum, and of course Deku all have stood up for him. And he’s going to stand back to give everything he’s been given. And now Fat Gum shedding it all wipes out EVERYTHING to do the same. Just a LEGENDARY moment for them all.
There’s STILL more waves to come and Mimic is STILL whipping everyone around. The big bruisers and the bullet proof are off the table for the heroes. They managed to keep Aizawa and if he makes it to the big boss, that can stop the entire operation then and there. The strategy to whittle down their numbers is unfortunately working but the 4 biggest players remain. Let’s see how far they go next time.
So Rappa used to do underground mma quirk cage fights. He actually had strict parents and did so as a way to rebel. His quirk is called Strongarm, which allows him to rotate his shoulders at super speeds in bursts. To put into perspective on how fast he is, he went against an undercover hero investigating trigger in Vigilantes who probably has the best speed quirk in mha. When activated he goes into a state where it seems like time is at a stand still. Bullets slow to a crawl. Even so, in the match against Rappa there were still no openings.
Weirdly enough he is probably the nicest and most chivalrous of the group of villains. When he found out the undercover hero didnt give his all during the match, he tried give half of his winnings to him. He says, "life's no fun without a little stupid, and that it's the soul that decides hate and love." He even assists a hero in taking on a villain. He probably would've made a decent hero
@@tobofu5978 I did a little bit of research into Rappa today because I ordinarily don’t give the Shie Hassaikai minions enough credit. And I often use Rappa to tell people that to tell people when they say Deku is faster than a bullet therefore is faster than All-Might. And I say THANK GOD, he’s ALMOST as fast as Rappa! OFA is going to save everyone now!
@tobofu5978 Yeah, Rappa's a GENUINELY good dude. I'd love to see him fight with the heroes later in the story, and I DEFINITELY wanna see him fight Muscular. He'd destroy that jerk.
@@Kaempfdog for specifics, under the speed quirk against rappa, its mach 8, with his fists looking like normal punches to anyone who can perceive and move at that speed. Presumable he's faster now with his attacks
Nah I ain't reading all of that but I love kirishima tho so I'm excited
Once again.. Kirishima best boy🥲
This scene is a little more brutal in the manga. Because in the manga he can't just harden again because when his hardening cracks that actually blows his skin off since his skin is what is hardened and it crumbles from the attack. So when he rehardens he actually hardens his muscles and his skin and muscles are basically hanging in tatters after the fight.
Glad someone mentioned this because by censoring the scene the anime really sells Kirishima short. Kirishima stands there protecting Fat Gum even while he's getting pounded into a pile of hamburger meat.
As much as I love the anime, the manga is always way crunchier and brutal. Like the Deku vigilante arc was grimier and felt realer in a way. The texture was just to much cleaner in the anime. And there is not nearly as much sexualization of the girls in the manga, especially as time has gone on and Horikoshi has grown as a person. I’d love to be more immersed in Japanese just so I could read mha in its native tongue
Freeze Frame Bonus: Right before Fatgum's (Fitgum?) punch shattered the shield, Rappa is clearly grinning like he's having the time of his life. "Finally, someone who goes all out!"
As an archer, I wanna know this conversation about bear hunting and a bow. 😅
That moment is when Red Riot became my Hero.
i still need to understand why people say that season 4 is badly animated....this episode alone proves them wrong
It's interesting how important being manly is to Kirishima, but when he was unable to act it was always Mina who stepped in, and he looked up to her as a model of what he should have been doing.
To be fair, Kirishima's idea of manliness isn't gender-related. It is more about personality, and spirit. I am positive, I have heard him refer to women and girls as manly before.
That's why i ship them.
Besides they have chemistry.
@stefanocremonini2656 Not to mention they have mutual respect.
DAMN IT!
I want to watch this video now but I just passed the summer camp arc videos in this series and I refuse to go out of order!
Update: I’m finally able to watch this 😃
Mina Ashido's personality is a force of nature.
Remember that giant who confronted a young Mina and Kirishima. He shows up again later.
(At 20:45) let's be honest, who ELSE thinks these should be two are shipped together?
Since you guys are forward in patreon, I want to say something(Although spoilers for anyone who is watching along side them)
See How Tamaki got exhausted and became unconscious in this ep 2:09? When Mirio gets shot with the quirk erasing bullet, in the manga Tamaki actually FEELS it and wakes up for a second. I don't know why they cut it out of the anime but it was like such a confirming they are soulmates scene.
KIRISHIMA MY BOY!! 🎉🎉
I've always thought it would be cool to see Kirishima discover that those kids in the news were Kacchan and Deku. Maybe he recognized Kacchan early on since some others in season one did, but I doubt he'd know it was Deku unless someone said something. They could have such a sweet moment about it. He inspired him, and they know each other, and they don't even realize it!
Idk if this is low key weird but you guys really comfort me. I’ve been sick for a week and when you guys post it instantly makes me feel better and excited to watch the episodes with y’all!!
13:45 yes actually!
so some quirks are ''heteromorphic'' meaning they occur in different forms in different stages of life.
usually heteromorphic quirks change their biology and physical appearance as well.
can't really think of a good heteromorphic quirk in class 1A except Ashido and invisible girl.
Ashido's is heteromorphic because her entire biology has adapted to the acid she produces.
thats why she is pink.
these quirks are unique to the individual meaning its very hard to impossible to replicate in another person because their entire body is build from birth around said quirk.
Eraser also can't erase these quirks, he can erase ashido's creation of acid, but he can't erase her physical biology (pink color etc)
(At 22:10) What don't kill you… makes you stronger.
Kirishima truly shines in this arc. Just another reason why it's the best in the whole series. 😉
Tom Nook quirk. Leaves into money. And he’s a Tanuki
They asked why tokoyami looked like a bird and Horikoshi said it was "because it looks cool". I think they are just fun character designs.
This is the episode that bumped Kirishima up to number 3 on my favorite characters list. (Todoroki and Aizawa are numbers 1 and 2, respectively). Also, I know you mentioned some people ship Kirishima/Ashido, but I'm way too busy shipping him with Bakugou.
Another practical difference between active expression of a quirk (the people with quirks that give them extra appendages or non human looks) vs ppl w passive expression quirks is that some quirks interact with only one axis or have different limitations in those axis, like for example eraser head can shut down your capability to spit fire but if you're the crystal guy he can't take away the crystals that you have by default, you wouldn't be able to grow them but the fact is that you're still able to incorporate what you have in your melee attacks and they give you some amount of defense that, means you're still in the super human side of the scale which means you're not fully defused as a threat
Biologically speaking? you probably don't count as a homosapiens anymore, but then again people with passive quirk manifestation Also don't count? they probably either came up with a new name like homopotentiae or something like that, that is vague enough to catch everyone with a quirk or they just fiddled with the definition of homosapiens to be a catch-all, and they can reproduce just fine with quirkless people unless someone has a quirk that makes them sterile or unable to reproduce, now if their quirk mutations are recessive traits or dominant that we don't quite know, it probably depends
"If you can't be unafraid, be afraid and happy" is one of the hardest hitting lines from my favourite book series, The Raven Cycle. Fear is not the be all end all emotion that stops everything, you can always push through it and accomplish great things nonetheless.
I know this is an old video and you probably will never see this, but you two are so beautifully insightful and I relate so much to Montana. Thanks for the wonderful content ❤
The story about the class and Kenny comforting Montana it’s so cute ❤match made in heaven
Montana lightheadedness from stretching/standing up to quickly can be from an Iron deficiency. Of course you should refer to a doctor, but simply eating more iron heavy foods or taking iron supplements should help.
Kirishima is one of those characters you just can't help but love.... Dude is epic and then Mina too.... 🤩
20.15 - if you go back to s1e4 or the my hero wiki to look at the entrance exam results, Karishma got 2nd place behind bakugo, which shows how far he went just to earn his start.
People who's quirks make them look non human are generally called heteromorphs. The manga shows a bit more about the societal impadt that has on those people, but the show tends to ignore some of those parts.
I absolutely adore Kirishima!! I love how real he feels, and I love that he did basically move for move what you’re supposed to do if you disappoint yourself.
As a timid, self conscious teenager, you would expect him to stew on it and just spiral into more and more self doubt. But instead, he saw something he didn’t like about himself and put in a TON of work to fix it.
Now, he’s basically Class 1A’s hype man, and a great hero to boot. Good boi!!! He’s such a cinnamon roll in so proud of himmmm!!!!!
I love how this show makes you feel so proud of so many characters lol, I’ve never watched a show that’s made me wanna CHEER so much
This has to be one of the most motivational episodes of the series
15:30 In this flashback, Machia here is looking for directions to the Springer hero agency. In the S3 AFO vs All Might fight, one of the new stolen quirks AFO wields is “Springlike Limbs”
the spin class metaphor was really great, it's easy to be the best, but it's hard to get there
God this episode still gives me all kinds of goosebumps
I've always really appreciated Rappa as a character and an antagonist. He's on the wrong side, but he has some actually noble ideals. He's like a better version of Muscular.
I'd like to see him join forces with heroes in the future, if for no other reason than to see him DESTROY that jerk.
Dammit no matter how many times I watch this damn episode I cry
kirishima and mina are my perfect mha couple
Can you imagine their kid? They would be the god/goddess of extroverts.
I love how the show just nonchalantly reveals that they went to the same middle school.
She just comes around the corner in the flashback, and your brain connects the dots
@@HaydrogenBombshe is a supporting female character in a Shonen anime. The fact that she got that much backstory still baffles me.
@@valentinkambushev4968 And with a really strong quirk too , also a hardworking spirit
I love them too. Not against any other shippers, but I really like the ship because they are both so nice.
Like if we get an answer at the end (like a flashforward into the future) I really hope they will end up together.
The guy who asked for hero agency address was "Giganto Makia"
This is low key my favorite episode of all of MHA, the VA's went crazy the animators went crazy and kirishima absolutley tanked that combo
Kirishima having the same English VA as Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho just makes me like him even more.
(At 22:48) Is this guy related to Choji from _Naruto?_ Because he just got _sexy_ after losing too much weight.
22:47 The villains: "Oh no hes hot!"
Ah, yes, the episode that made Kiribaku shippers cry tears of blood.
Not only them
Meh, let them cry harder. They always just seemed like best bros, at least to me.
Lmao let them cry they need to remember to be more hydrated anyway
Tbh Mina and kirishima is just as bad as kiribaku simply cause neither ship is developed enough to make sense in the show
@@Dark-Wolf27literally untrue
A few fun facts about this episode:
1) When Kirishima fought the robots in the entrance exam to get into UA, they show his name on the scoreboard in season one, and he came in at the number 2 spot out of all the students who got in, coming in second only to Bakugo who was first.
2) When Mina says “you got a new look for high school? You’ve got horns like me!”, this was interesting because in season 3 when he went to Camino Ward to find kidnapped bakugo, his disguise also had horns. I think this is a reference to the fact that he wants to be LIKE Mina because he looks up to her for how brave she is, and how she stands out. Both are qualities that he believes he needs to be a successful hero. But yeah, I think it’s cool that lowkey he’s imitating her out of admiration.
3) His senior year of middle school, it showed that he could barely harden at all. Not even a full year later and now he’s tanking blades that are sharp enough to pierce his bulletproof skin, and absorbing punches that are powerful enough to hurt Fatgum who has also stated that knives and bullets can’t hurt him. Kirishima has grown the most in the shortest amount of time (not including Deku) through sheer hard work and nobody can convince me otherwise
There we go, one of my favorite episodes
My favorite thing about this episode is that Fatgum is Gohan (VA)
But also, he stored up a bunch of trauma to take out the foe much like Gohan vs Cell.
Let's go Kirushima! You're unbreakable!!!
Montana breaking down Fatgums power has me really hyped to see her figure out Overhaul's mask.
overhauls mask had something to do with his power? i cant even remember that
For Kenny gigantomachia is there because he was looking for the hero had one of the quirks that one for all used against all might
after this episode I learnt something about Fat Gum....the dude is 8'2", he's massive compared to a normal person
I love Kirishima. Seeing how insecure he was about himself and his quirk is so heartbreaking because he's so genuinely pure and charming so it's very rewarding that his hardwork is paying off. It's not easy to spot but in Season 1 when the entrance exam happened and Deku gets his results, one of the screens in the teacher's room shows that Kirishima got the second-highest score (74), just 3 points below Bakugou who got the 1st spot (77), in the practical test with the robots. :)
This episode made Kirashima my favorite character from 1-a, if not all of my hero
Not Mckenna tapping into later conflicts again 😂😂
This is why kirishima is my favorite
This was when first put red riot in my top 10
Rappa's quirk: Hands
Just an FYI for you both, this episode was pretty much sensores!
When kirishima took the punches, his hardened skin started peeling off and you could see his inner injuries
At the end of it he was just a pile of meshed skin and muscle tissue
Man I can't believe they missed seeing Rappa attack his teammate cause they were fixing the mic
It's said that Ashido is pink due to her body holding in acid. If she were to run out of acid she would lose the pink in her skin but it would hurt her supposedly....also "that guys" moment here comes up again in the series wayyy into the series
The best part about Rappa is that his quirk isn't super strength, or speed, or stamina, or anything like that. He has slightly more articulated shoulders. That's all. The rest, similarly to Toga's stealth and fighting abilities, is all skill and training. He'd be almost equally dangerous if he didn't have a quirk at all.
Does anyone know what song is playing during the flash back? 16:59 - 17:53
"From Me To You"
Kirishima, my beloved...
8:34 cat 🥰
Edit: cats 13:43 🥰
There are different types of qurks that can be categorized into three types: emitter, transformation, and mutation. Emitter are like Bakugou, who can turn their quirk on and off and use them like power moves. Transformation are like Ryuku, that can change into their quirk and them mutation, these have pernamate changes to their body like Ojiro. It's different from Mina or Tokoyami, who have emitter quirks (acid and dark shadow) but look different due to genetics inherited from their parents. Children take quirks from their either of their parents or a combination of the two. We see Jiro have her mom's quirk, and Bakugou have a combination of his parents quirk. There is a case in which, like Midoriya, that he was quirkiness (there's theroies why) and another character, you'll see soon enough.
Random thought, could amajiki’s quirk be used like toga’s but without the time limit? There’s no defined limit on his powers, so if he consumed somebody’s blood, just like toga would, could he steal their appearance? if he can only change parts of himself at a time, could he use their quirks?
Best episode until Early Bird! Let's Go!
All the stuff with Kirashima is great but this episode really made me intrested in Mina. She is one of the only other characters in the series that we see moves without thinking in a similar way to Deku. It makes me picture her with Ofa if All Might found her instead. Its a shame people dont talk about her much. I mean, jumping in front of that giant crushing a stone building is pretty awesome for a kid.
Ashidos skin is pink because the acid in her skin, it keeps her acid from melting her own body
